Ever since that first day she'd wanted on of her very own. The day Anni arrived on the boat in Stormreach Harbour and did a few chores for the Coin Lords, venturing into the miller's basement to retrieve the goods. There she'd seen them. The cutest, spikiest dogs Anni had ever seen.
Now, many months later, Anni finally speaks excitedly with her trainer. She'd done everything he asked, followed the path he set for her, learned, practiced, dedicated herself. And now, now he would teach her how to make a dog of her own. It was the happiest day of her life so far (not that it had been an extensive life, being a warforged, but it had been eventful).
After the session with the trainer, Anni runs down into the nearest dungeon and lowers to her knees to summon her pet. It comes, just as he'd said it would. With glee, Anni runs around looking for things to hit, delighted when the dog follows her faithfully.
Spying a group of kobolds down the dank passage, she rushes in to lay about with her greatsword... then slips and lands on her rear. Looking around in confusion, Anni sees the dog spewing forth a puddle of grease onto the floor. She attempts to stand yet slips again in the mess and falls once more. Eventually she regains her feet and makes short work of the kobolds, but in a rather less enthusiastic manner.
Anni pauses to consider the dog, now standing by her as loyal as any pup. She feels a mix of unfamiliar emotions - uncertainty and disappointment. Could the pet she so dearly wanted be more of a nuisance than a pleasure? Anni couldn’t fight well on her bottom, she knew that. But what to do?
With a heavy heart, Anni dismisses the metal dog and emerges once more out into the light of the Stormreach sky. This would require some thought. Perhaps she should find Runebound and ask him – he was clever.
