    Default Khopesh vs. Bastard Sword

    Hey All,

I am considering swapping my Exotic Weapon feat from Bastard Sword to Khopesh on Freebee. From a strictly sword and board DPS perspective is this a good move given the x2 (BS) vs x3 (Khop) crit multiplier. I have a lot of very nice Khopeshes in the bank and a shard so the transition is easy. My other 2 fighter are Khopesh users.

Freebee has WF, WS, GWF, GWS, Imp Crit and Power Crit feats. Plus 3 ranks of Crit Accuracy from enhancements. Thanks in advance for the input.

From a pure DPS standpoint, the khopesh will outperform the bastard sword as long as the opposing monster can be critically hit.

If you already have a nice collection of Khopeshes the Khopesh is a better selection. I happen to stick with Bastard Swords because I already have a nice collection and they are generally not as sought after and slightly cheaper to get my hands on. From a pure stats point of view though, yes the Khopesh is better.

A kopesh is better then a bastard sword but a +5 bastard sword is better then a +4 kopesh, it depends what you have, if you have some nice kopeshes then switch it out.

Assuming 30 str and the feats mentioned before...

    +5 bastard sword
    5.5 base damage
    5 weapon
    10 str
    04 feats
24.5 points of damage a hit
49 points of damage on a critical hit

    1 = no hits
    2-16 = regular hits = 367.5 damage
    17-20 = critical hits = 196 damage
    563.5 total damage over 20 swings (5 rounds)/20 = 28.175 points of damage a swing

    +4 khopesh
    4.5 base damage
    4 weapon
    10 str
    04 feats
22.5 points of damage a hit
67.5 points of damage on a critical hit

    1 = no hits
    2-16 = regular hits = 337.5 damage
    17-20 = critical hits = 270 damage
    607.5 total damage over 20 swings (5 rounds)/20 = 30.375 points of damage a swing...

So in this case a +4 khopesh will out dps a +5 bastards sword... I doubt he's missing on anything but a 1 (unless he's got PA/CE) but even then with all his crit enhancements he's not missing a confirmation and so he would lose 1 hit or 22.5 damage over 20 swings because of the -1 to hit and thus be at 585 damage compared to the bastard swords 563.5...

Khopeshes are better... but harder to find generally...

NOTE: Power attack will move the numbers in greater favor of the khopesh as the more the base damage the more crit range times extra crit multiplier becomes more important and a bloodstone would favor the khopesh as well...

ok, but the point is it depends what you have, some bastard swords will out damage kopeshes.

The statistical analysis between khopesh and any other one handed slasher has been done to death. Yes, the khopesh will perform better over time. However, they are very hard to get a hold of, since everyone wants to get them.

I have a Paladin that I'm in the process of leveling up, and I went bastard sword. Mostly because I have a +3 Holy Burst of Righteousness, a +4 Flaming Burst, a +1 Flaming of Greater Undead Bane, and a +3 Vorpal in the bank waiting for him. It is easier to find good bastard swords, as they are not as sought after. The overall damage will be less than the khopesh, but not enough to make me lose any sleep over it.

After much personal debate, I made the feat swap from BS to Khopesh on Saturday afternoon. I had a +2 Shocking Burst of PG, +2 Icy Burst of Shattermantle, a +5 Flaming and Dynastic Falcata along with some others that were sent to Aryss for use when he grows up a few levels. Maybe not the best to start with but...oh well, they were fine to me.

By the end of Sunday night though, I had those and a +5 Acid and +4 Seeker (+8) of PG from the AH for REALLY cheap. I also pulled a +5 Shocking and a +4 Transmutation of Shattermantle. I don't know what happened, but it seemed that every end reward contained a khopesh. Crazy

I had a blast with the new toys. What a sweet weekend

Edit: And now I have a +2 Vorpal Khopesh with a +1 Paralyzing Khopesh on the way which will be handed down to Aryss

PS I do have 30 Str
