Default Why no high-end random trinkets?

Yesterday, while checking the AH for various items, I came upon an interesting question.

Why don't nice trinkets drop as random loot? Yes, you have Pearls of Power, but what about the rogue, barbarian and fighter? Spell point trinkets are meaningless to these classes.

With every other slot, you have the potential to have something nice randomly drop from a chest. The best trinkets are either rare drops (Bloodstone) from a specific chest or sometimes they appear as end rewards for arc quests (Mummified Bat).

It's a little easier as a harbor noob, since there are many choices of low-level trinkets from a number of quests (i.e. Moog's Ornanment and Glik's Bauble kinda stuff). But, the thing is, these still drop from specific chests, too.

I'm just wondering why nothing but PoPs drop as random trinket loot at high-levels? Anyone else think it'd be nice to see more trinket options?

The Pearl of the Sirines is a pretty nice random trinket.

Nope, it like all others is a Named item. It may have random drop, but not random properties. Though, I'm not exactly sure if the OP is asking for Random properties or more random drops of Named trinkets. Perhaps he will clarify.

I think the latter. I'd like to see this, too.

He specifically lists the Pearl of Powers, which essentially is 10 different named items. I assumed he was just looking for a randomly placed high level trinket.

I would think either would suffice.

    Default actually...

I've been wondering about this myself for a while. Lets see here.. what do we have that isn't raid, named, or end reward specific...

There are ioun stones, scarabs, Brooch of Shielding, stone of luck.... That is about it really.

I mean, is it so hard to have earrings of listening? Spot? Haggle?

Add some high level ioun stones that offer insight bonuses to stats and/or skills, AC, to-hit, etc. The insight bonuses will stack with everything else we have.

    Default Oh I don't know...

It might be nice to get a few ion stones here and there. There is enough named ones to go around though and by definition a trinket should be a little more rare than a weapon or armor.

Basically, everything they decided to put into the trinket slot was rare and cool (aka named loot). I agree that there should be a bit more available as randomly found loot. But keep in mind, DDO loot isn't as random as you'd like to think.

I'd say the whole issue would be solved with Asp's suugestion for ioun stones with a bonus that stacked. As small as a +1 or 2 may seem, if it stacked, it could make a nice difference to stats or skills.

    Cool Oh, Hi Honey

I'd like a trinket that let's me know when my wife is approaching.

Leave your shoes in the foyer and strip to your skivvies on the way to the computer desk, leaving clothes along the way. You'll definitely hear her coming!

I think having a wider variety of trinkets, and also a better level range of trinkets would be nice. Granted the Mummified Bat wings are nice but that is the only combined one that has a variety that I have seen so far.

Also it would be kewl if the Ioun Stones had an animation of a colored pea floating around you the color of the stone.
What do you mean you weren't ready for me to pull, I had Spellpoints???

Sorry, for not getting back sooner to the thread, but reading through it so far, I'd have to say that I was referring to things like ioun stones or luck stones (forgot to mention both of these, BTW). Specific, named items like the Pearl of the Sirines isn't necessarily was I was referring to.

I think Aspenor's idea of ioun stones with higher-end properties would be a nice fix, but as it stands, I don't think loot running for Bloodstones is the answer to getting something that works at high levels.

If Turbine is going to give us a slot to put something there then I feel the opportunity to fill it with something beneficial on all levels should be done.

How many of us are running around with a sub-par trinket with the hopes of a Bloodstone or the +2 Luck Head from the Reaver?

I don't want to sound whiny, but I definitely think it's something that would add a little more flavor to our characters since the choices now are rather limited.

    Not really...

Unless you consider Helm of Power VI to be a named item too.

Nearly all my characters have one of the Harbor trinkets in their trinket spot, regardless of their level. I think one may be using a pearl of power VI, simply because I often forget to swap in her Magi weapon before she rests and this way I take slightly less of a hit on spell points. Wasteful use of a slot but she doesn't need to use that spot for a +1 stat, so why not?

I've got a bat or two but I don't actually have them in use. The characters who have them find the +1 stat item more beneficial, and they have boots or a ring that gives the Feather Fall they need.

Many of the Co6 end rewards that started out so cool have become "Meh" items now that random end rewards and random drops have the same features. I remember a character who used to carry around a Serpentbranch simply so she'd be poison proof when scorpions came a-calling. Nowadays, my new characters usually find an item like that waiting for them in their mailbox as soon as they escape the Wavecrest. And an Underwater Action item, and a Feather Fall item if I have a spare lying around...the "special" items simply aren't "special" any more.

I still run each character through Splinterskull 3-6 times for those end rewards. Best stuff you can get in the first half of the game. I've gotten to where I don't even think about what's around each corner in there, it's all ingrained in muscle memory.

Or even fix some of the current Ioun stones to give the proper type of bonus.

I agree there are not nearly enough trinkets in this game.

Harbor stuff has lots of trinkets, I really like having the Bottle of Air on my fighter when nothing else is worth putting in there at mid levels. But once you get past level 4 or 5 there are very few trinkets worth using until high end for non casters. Almost anyone who uses SP takes the gem from Tangleroot (I still have a lvl 14 paladin who uses one), but for non magic using classes you are out of luck.

Even at high levels it's tough to find a good item for the trinket slot for non spell pointers. Kardins eye and the Bloodstone are very tough to get and having FF or the Fragment of the Silver Flame aren't all that great. The Ion Stone bonuses are not nearly equal to other equipment for their levels, and even they seem to be hard to find.

More trinkets! More high level or even mid level trinkets! They don't all have to be "uber", but some useful trinkets for non spellcasters would be very welcome.

Good idea, need more trinkets at al levels really. It's usually the slot I don't fill until I get a bat from Co6, that's a long time to have an opening
