Luthen, I feel for ya man. Although on a raid sticking to a plan is definitally a good thing, mass healing in combat is a very useful strategy for the reaver and for many other raids as well. I've seen many healing clerics run INTO melee with the reaver to do just that and then back out because they can't fight.

With the server merger I've seen a lot of people telling me, and my guildies how we should play our toons, even when we're on our mains. I don't know if it's because they are simply wedded to tactics that work on their server, or if it's because they expect us to be bad players on gimped toons. I have noticed that people are not used to as well built of toons as many on Xoriat have. So they expect you to be a gimp cleric, who shouldn't be fighting as a result, and me to be a gimpy sorc or bard. I even was once even explained that "characters shouldn't really melee after about level 11 because the monsters are just too tough," at which point I commenced to beat everything down with my bard. I've also seen some of the powergamers from the other servers ridiculing me, pugs, and other guildies for being "gimp" and "losers" before even the quest even begins.

On the new server, many people expect us to be bad players on gimpy toons and treat us accordingly. Thus, many people don't realize that a battle cleric is very effective as a healer and as combattant IF, and ONLY IF, it is played by a good player, because they've mostly seen the bad ones who get the entire party killed.

The general hate of bad or slow play, and general respect until proven otherwise, is definitally an aspect of Xoriat that I miss.

Had a slightly similar experience. Joined a party and we got the quest underway. The party leader requested that I stop charming stuff. I asked "why? we dont have to kill anything to complete the quest." I usually expect to get some bull about "it will turn on us" or something like that. He just simply answered "because i like to kill everything." I wasnt in the mood at the time so I just said "go right ahead" and dropped party.

Did anyone else read that the OP *knows* the leader of the party and said the leader of the party *knows* his playstyle and that was one of the reasons he was ****ed. Could it be possible that *gasp* the leader may just have been from Xoriat?

lizz I think that we all are in a learning pattern right now....Xoriat was so small and many of ran w/ each other or at least ran w/ the same people often so we ther ewere "known" play styles and steps in quest. now there are more people added to the mix we all just need to be a little more vocal ask waht is expected and go form there.... I've met some neat folk already looking forward to meeting more...but if you are used to blowing through a reaver raid every time and all of sudden you fail a coulpe of times...it can make you go aghhhhh.... that's all luth is doing, if you get the chance to play w/ him trust me you'll want to play w/ him again

You're right. I am sorry if I appeared to be assuming that he was not from Xoriat. I was simply trying to relate Luthen's experiences, who I've played with from time to time since launch, with my own since the merger.

My experience, and that of my guildies, has been:
1) people have been telling us how to play MUCH more than they used to
2) powergamers from other servers have, from time to time, been MUCH ruder to us than I have seen in the past, without just cause. Xoriat hate was not "general rudenss," but sadly I've also heard that some xoriat players are now showing this same trait in pugs.

I have been in some very good pugs on Thelanis, and I'm looking forward to getting to know many of the new people. However, there seems to be a general expectation that players and parties are pretty weak, which causes leaders to be more authoritarian than on Xoriat and some of the powergamers to be generally rude in pugs.

I guess I want to say thanks for this honest response. I am in the same boat as Lizz. Simply put the amount of **** on the forums lately is making me sick. There are a lot of good things being said, but you have to dig through the ******** to find them. I don't RP, I am a good player, I love running fast (Not Havanti fast, I'm not that good ) and elite but all the posts lately have just served to be wenchriffic, or just to tear others down. Seriously--- Noobs, jerks, they're ALWAYS there. Negativity won't do **** to make them change their behavior, or make them disappear, all it does is get us riled up. And I really, really don't like to get riled up.

Most of them don't even read the forums, LOL. So why bend to serve the lowest common denominator? You guys seem to have a pretty good /squelch list. That's cool, I don't know many Thelanis guilds do that, I know I keep the 'list' in my head but thankfully there are not that many people on it since I run mostly with guilds or people I've got to know well. Luckily I am now part of 2 great guilds with many high quality players between them so PUGs are usually a non-issue.

Sorry guys, I understand that you're just trying to find your feet here, I really don't see that the tenor of the server has changed all that much only the % of jerks has grown. There were plenty of jerks on Thelanis before you moved in, we just learned to ignore them. They did eventually (some at least) leave on their own. I feel sometimes like Thelanis was seen as the "sleepy little mountain town", but there was always a lot going on here, a lot of good solid playing, the best on any server, and more to boot with our unique RP, and whatever going on. But nobody ever, ever looked to tear others down, not purposefully. The good people connected, and the bad ones were eventually separated in a phrase I like, the sheep were separated from the goats. I cannot remember, in my past year and a half of playing and reading the forums, EVER any threads like the ones that have shown up over the past month. These things were always dealt with in game, or between players with just word of mouth. We are like ninjas, we don't run in with guns blazing, we get our work done under cover of night, slit the throats, and then the job is done. I don't give a **** that's how it was done somewhere else, any more than you give a **** how we did things. The challenge is making the two worlds mesh.

I have bristled at the insinuation that we Thelanians were somehow the "weak link" when it came to good playing on the server. I can easily rattle off 20 to 30 players I consider the top on Thelanis pre-merge, who would be interchangeable on any of their characters who I would put up against any on the game. Maybe you mean to come off that way, maybe you don't. But I hope... I don't know what the hell I hope. I just want to play. Cliques serve their purpose, but sometimes it's nice to expand. I actually want to meet some of y'all and see if you are what you say you are. Like truly attracts like, so hopefully you all find yourselves in the better groups as opposed to the ****** ones.

These past few posts have honestly changed my first impression about some of you. Not that you care, but... whatevs. We women DO talk. I understand, one thing about us xoriat's we were always forum heavy even though we didn't have that many peeps. I really have met some good like minded folks and some that couldn't cut the mustard as well, if you pug alot(which I do casue I like to play with different people) you will meet some of us form xoriat who are great people and players and some that are piles of dung....the thing about the "good" xoriat's (some would say that's a oxymoron) is we really really stick together, we talk, shareour experiences, we'd trade something without worrying about getting our item first, it was a very tight grp, I don;t believe any of us are closed to adding more into the fold, but we're not quiet types you come and go without a whisper...if you played w/ luth you 'd like him, same w/ many of the "xoriat's" you see posting...I'd tell you to seek out scars, seek out Mr. Wizard (aka Devistate one of the best mages on any server) there are tons to mention I can't name them all.. you'll like most of us, but we do have our share of Jacka@#'s as well any population does, and we were no different

Not a flame but out of curiosity did you ask them why they didn't want you to melee? The reason I ask is because I am wondering if it had to do something with strategy. When my guild runs the reaver we only have one person meleeing and getting aggro. Everyone else concentrates on the elementals. Now we usually run short, 4-5 people and so everyone has their specific jobs, but wondering if that is maybe why they requested that.

Wasn't there so don't know what the guys reasoning was. If it was simply that they don't like BC's they should have said something up front to you.

Yes, we did have our share of jerks and lots of bad players on Xoriat. What I was referring to as "general rudenss" I never experienced on Xoriat to such an extent though. The most glaring incident of what I'm referring to was not caused by someone originally from Thelanis, but from Tharask.

Basically the guy was laughing at the entire party, mocking us, ranting and whatnot...the entire time. I would have dropped immediately, but my friends thought we should stick it out and finish, so I stayed. I mean, I enjoy a stupid or funny death as much as the next guy, but this was not it. At one point in the mid level POTP run, for example, the cleric, who was a decent player, was standing against a pillar healing and a mob in the ice room came over and critted him or hit him with a polar ray or something huge, because he just died instantly. So this jerk commenced to mock the cleric for several minutes....THE CLERIC. I mean I've seen some fighters go at it before over things, but I've never seen someone mock a cleric for dying who was doing the right things. Much less, be called a gimp or loser or ******, especially when he was doing the right things.

Later I learned that this was not all that out of the ordinary for this guild, and that normally if you just group with one of them you'd be ok.....not that this calmed me at all. They literally just felt they were so much above everyone else that this sort of general rudeness was acceptable.

I have met a lot of nice people from both Thelanis and Tharask I would love to party with more, but incidents like this I have never experienced before on Xoriat.

I also really hope that these are just growing pains that will ease once people get their bearings.
