    Default Repair lost durability

I want a way to repair lost durability or eliminate the loss altogether. It seems when you repair a new item (even with 1 durabilty loss), you nearly always will suffer permanent damage that first time even if it never does again. It's makes this game very frustrating to have the ultra rare specialty weapons broken.

Nah I like the fact that things wear out. I prefer to look forward to a new weapon as opposed to using the same old same old.

Agreed, if they really wanted to reduce the amount of availiable high end stuff in the game this would be one way of doing it, might **** off a lot of folks though.

The OP is talking about 1 point of damage? Gimmie a break.

I agree, wear and tear is good. Also, it has never been a problem for me.

I have a +1 light hammer of lesser ooze bane my LoLos use until they land a muckbane. It, of course, is NOT immune to ooze damage and after a year still has like 45 durability. It is my most damaged weapon and was bought as a disposable. I never really expected to still have it.

Another example - I see a pair of +3 INT goggle on the AH for really cheap. I need a pair so I buy them...and then notice that they have 3 durability left. My wiz wore them from lvl 7 till he dinged 9. They took damage but were never destroyed.

Would it be nice to repair durability? Yes, they even mentioned at one point that it will be a reward for free agent favor. Wasn't the guy hiding out in the old brokers in House P or something?

But really - if you take care of your gear, durability should NEVER be an issue.

A most have said, durability is so high that items last almost forever. The only item I have that has 20% or more perm damage is a +1 holy light mace of pure good, and only because I've had it for a year and I keep rerolling my rogue (who uses this weapon). Funny thing is, when it was perfect it had maybe 80 durability. How long would it take to actually break one of those greatswords with 220+?

And goggles ith 3 durability? Dang how old must those be? Or how often did the previous owner die wearing them? I think it takes me about 10hours of questing to get 1 pt of perm damge on non weapon/armour/shield items, and thats using the nearest repair guy.

Actually goggle with 3 durability is a guarenteed destroy next time it takes damage - that's a given. Items with low durability after initial damage will have a greater chance of perm damage (for more points in perm damage) the next time they are repaired.

I repair after each quest. Things I've worn out completely... pre-mod 2 - 2 retributions (would have a 3rd but retired it at 30% because they will not last much longer), 1 proof of poison belt, 3 rings.

I guarentee... when an item get's below half it's initial durability it's time to start looking for a replacement as it will wear out soon.

Oh, for the love of all that's D&D, PLEASE don't make things wear out faster! My loot mojo has always been on the VERY low side, and "just replace it" simply isn't an option for the loot-challenged sector of society.

I thought you could repair prem damage with special high favor venders... like the one in the desert.

That particular merchant has a smaller chance of leaving an item with permanent damge, than regular merchants, when used to make repairs. Doesn't actually make the permanent damage go away.

Well, the only potential saving grace is the fighter's enhancement ability to negate initial damage taken, if one chooses to take this enhancement. I have mentioned it before in other threads, but I will mention it here again as it has made an enormous amount of difference to me.

First off, all my other charcters take item damage as one would expect. Most of my melee characters end up taking some perma damage somewhere each time I repair (which is almost always after each quest or quest chain). However, my fighter rarely every takes any perma damage. Since I have taken rank 3 of the fighter enhancement (sorry I do not recall the actual name of the enhancement), I have hardly damaged anything permanently. I have since gotten rid of my muckbane and instead use a frost dwarven axe of greater ooze bane. Over the past 4 months or so of use, this axe has taken 4 points of perma damage (out of 125 I believe) and it sees alot of use. I have 4 other similar axes I bought, assuming the first one would wear out quickly, but it hasnt. It does break completely on occasion though, but when I take it in to repair, it rarely takes any perma damage. I have yet to score a single point of perma damage to my armor in that time either. Again, all my other characters that do not have this enhancement get perma damage fairly consistently, so I have to chalk it up to the fighter enhancment, as my fighter is one of my most played characters.

So, for those fighters out there worried about perma damage, I would suggest considering this enhancement, although it is semi expensive action point wise, but to me it has been well worth it. I think its progression is 2 points, 4 points and 6 points (I cant get the 4th rank yet until the level cap is increased due to my multiclass though, but I will when I can). Sadly, it is only for fighters at this point though.

If the OP happens to be a fighter, I would suggest looking into it, as it might be worthwhile for you.

Other classes will be getting this enhancement soon, although at differing % protections and levels.

Paladins receive Item Defense enhancements at levels 3, 7, and 11, while the others receive them at 5, 9, and 13. Fighters continue to receive them at levels 1, 5, 9, and 13. As with all class enhancements, purchasing level one in one class will lock out the lines from the other classes.

I wish we could have access to the higher end repair in Gianthold so I don't have to run back to the Desert everytime. A couple of times I didn't bother and that ham-fisted ogre put permanent dings in three +6 stat items, a Greater False Life ring, and my Sword of Shadow. That was a sad night of playing, let me tell you. And yes, I do have item defense, 50% even!

That is a sad night. I think the Ogre has only botched 3 repairs across 4 characters since the Gianthold was introduced. I like him.
