Default The Jumping Bean of Death

All throughout my DDO experience, I've found myself remaking and remaking characters, never seeming to find a class I like. Caster after melee after healer after trapmonkey, you name it, I hated it so much. I then made a dragonmarked halfling wizard and found myself in hog heaven. Worried about it's viability, I started rolling other casters. WF Wizards, Drow Savants. I hated all those characters.

It wasn't until recently that I realized it wasn't the class or the playstyle that was the issue: I'm good at just about everything in this game. No, that wasn't it at all. It was the race. I am a horrible racist against anything in this game that is not a halfling. I love them so much. I don't know why, I just can't stand NOT playing as one. Especially with a high jump score.

What does this have to do with a request? Well, here goes:

I want the ultimate halfling build. Makes use of every possible thing a halfling has to offer, including the healing dragonmarks. Use as many awesome enhancements as you can- use the dex bonus as much as you can, go crazy with it. I want a character to fit the race of halfling and all it's self-healing and short gimpy goodness.

Does this character have to be good? Of course it does. Does it have to be viable? You bet. Does it have to be short? Hell yeah.

    Preferences:
-Very high jump score. Dead serious. Love jumping. Halflings seem to jump higher than anything else, do you know why? Because they have giant... toes. Screw anything else, a high jump is where it's at.
-Spells. Any of them. I need a blue bar beneath the red one.

    Restrictions:
-I do not have monk. But if this build ABSOLUTELY REQUIRES IT, I will probably buy it anyway.
-HAS to be self-sufficient. Not that hard to accomplish with the dragonmarks. I love to not have to depend on a cleric to heal me in the middle of battle.

    Have fun, creative builders.
Here's what I came up with. Rogue 13/Ranger 6/Fighter 1. The way I see halflings, rogue is pretty much a given. Everything Halflings are good at is good for Rogues. And what Rogues are especially good at is sneak attacks. I put in 6 levels of Ranger to get ITWF as an automatic feat. I've maxed out Jump, and added all the Jump enhancements, so at lvl20, this character has a 38 unbuffed Jump skill!

You said you wanted spells. This build won't get them until lvl10, and you'll need a +1 Wis tome by then to be able to cast them. I really concentrated on the sneak attack damage aspect of a halfling Rogue, so this isn't much of a caster, but with all the Dragonmarks and all the Jorasco enhancements, it should have a lot of healing available. I kept UMD maxed throughout, so whatever the Dragonmarks don't cover, a CMW wand or two should be able to handle.

    Hi everyone,

Im new to DDO, I have a lvl 6 ranger character at the mo that has allowed me to get the basics of this game (i have taken the pre-set path with this one (tempest) due to being my first character but have since found out this is the worts thing i could have done), but now im thinking of becoming a VIP and wanted to make use of the warforged race.

Ive been looking over some of these custom character builds and i think i want to try out a wizard (want to cast damage at enemy's but also give some buffs to party) but with the ability to pull out two sords/axe's when i run out of spell points (and still be good enough with them to use them regardles of spell points availible). Also with the ability to self heal with mana (dont want to rely on potions)

I think i saw a Warforged 14 wizard/ 4 fighter/ 2 monk that might fit what im after but now i cant find it again. Also wanted peoples opinions on what they thought would best suit the style of play above and any friendly advice would be very welcome.

Thanks to all who reply in advance

But anyway, there was a topic recently talking about Assassins with Monk splashes. See here: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=320075

It's supposed to be pretty viable dps wise despite losing the capstone, because handwraps attack a fair bit faster than other weapons. That said, someone mentioned that Assassinate doesn't work with wraps; not sure if that's true but it sort of ruins this idea if it is. I made an attempt anyway.

Half-Elf goes well with 28 pointers, because you can squeeze an extra ability score raise out of the dilly feats; I went with Fighter for Strength. Skills are a real pain. I struggled even with 14 Int. Are you dead set on stealth? Try it if you like but I warn you stealth is rubbish in this game. A build like this really wants to max Bluff, and with Hide/MS on top of the obvious I didn't have many points left for Balance and Open Lock.

You need a +2 Dex tome before level 15, and this is essential. No other tomes are necessary, though they will help.

Cleave and Great Cleave are entirely optional; you can put what you like in place of those. There is a more thematically correct choice for those feats, but it won't work with the 28 point build. If you ever get hold of a Greater Heart of Wood you'll want to respec into something like this (assuming +2 tomes all around this time):

Stunning Fist benefits from the same enhancements Stunning Blow does, which makes for a better use of the Fighter dilly. The extra build points go to Wis and I made room for Monk Wis I and II to buff the DC further.

I'd enquire further about that Assassinate thing. If it doesn't work with wraps then I wouldn't bother with a build like this.

You need to click on the level 20 button so that it is highlighted in green before you press forum export. It only exports up to the level you have selected.

Default TRing a lv20 monk, looking for s self sufficient character

Hey all, I recently hit level 20 on my monk and want to TR him soon as he is a tad gimpy. I'm looking for a self sufficient character that well give me some use of the monk past life feat so that means unarmed. I'm down to make an unarmed fighting cleric or fvs that can solo through most content early levels through some epics.

My preferences would be: fast, reliable melee (for duos, trios, solo), but efficient and powerful blade barriers. That would make a fun playstyle I believe.

A monk/wizard with hurtful spells and reliable melee (warforged?). That sounds pretty self sufficient. I have ideas for builds but I just suck with the numbers, don't know my gear, and don't know prereqs well. Maybe if there is a guide to building a solo class or something someone could point me there.

I'm a VIP, got erathing I need. This will be a 34pt build, I don't give a darn which race / class combination you guys could suggest, I'm open to all styles of play (I'd prefer to get some use out of Past Life feat for monks though ).

Default Looking for a monk build is all...

Hey I'm pretty new to the whole monk class, I know practically nothing about it. Also new to the forums which feel pretty overwhelming and ultimately haven't helped yet.

I was looking for some Light Monk builds. I have yet to spot any and and I been browsing the forums for awhile now. I don't really mind if it's a generic build or something advanced. I'm simply looking for a build that gets me into the class so I can see what it has going for it.

    Details:
-Ideally Human, Elf, Helf, Drow... will take the Halfling if it's preferred.
-Light Monk! I'll try out a dark some other time.
    -Don't have tombs :/.
-Are there any stick builds? I have wraps in storage but I love the look of staff fighting. As long as it doesn't take away from Light Monk abilities.
-Anything else is really fair game, I'm not going to be picky.

i'd like some stat and feat ideas (first life, 28 pt, +1 tomes only) for an elf 12ranger/7wizard/1rogue with goals being gtwf scimitars, self healing, max umd, max traps, self buffs, and wears armor.

Question I would really like your help

I am a newbie and am enjoying my play so far. I am a lvl3 human with 2bard/1fighter.
I am trying to build my character to the idea that i have in my head. However am wondering if I am on the right path.
Let me put forth my current standing:
    Str 16 +3 HP 58
    Dex 11 SP 108
    Con 14 +2 AC 15 +2
Int 10 SAVES Fortitude +6 Base Attack Bonus +2
    Wis 10 Reflex +5
    Cha 16 +3 Will +5

    Skills
    Balance 3 Listen 5
    Bluff 7 Move Silently 7
    Concentration 7 Perform 10.5
    Diplomacy 3 search 3
    Haggle 3 Spot 3
    Hide 8 Swim 1
    Intimidate 3 Tumble 3
    Jump 2 UMD 6

    Feats
Fascinate, Heroic Durability, Inspire Courage, Skill focus: Perform, Sneak, Sunder, Toughness, THF, Weapon focus:Slashing weapon

    Spell
Cure Light wounds, Otto's resistible dance

    Echancement
Bard extra song 1, inspired dmg 1, lingering song 1, Human improved recovery 1, versatility 1, Improved hide 1, Bard song magic 1, bard wand & scroll Mastery 1

As of now i am using a +1 great axe and keep switching it with a great sword.
I took fighter for the sole reason of using a Two handed weapon. But am wondering if i did it right.
I want my character to be able to shell out dmg and also use songs and heal spell. Love to get all the chests and get all the rewards. I am playing all the quests twice, once in normal and then hard. During hard I sometimes use a hireling. Mostly barbarian.
I mostly solo as of now so use a lot of sneak and bluff. I know later on i would have to join party to do quest but as of now i solo cause the timings i play are really not decided.

    1. I have not got the open lock and disable device yet but am looking at rogue as my next lvl up. Should i go into rouge for these two skills?

    2. What is the best THF weapon i.e. sword, axe or falchion?
    3. Am definitely looking to becoming a WarChanter, so what feats are necessary?
    4. What enhancement are a must?
    5. Am not really satisfied with the dmg i am causing. What can i do to improve it?
    6. Should I take Barb for more Dmg? Not very keen on rage. Maybe I am underestimating it?
    7.

I would really like any thoughts or ideas that you have. Am looking at DDO for a long term.
Will buy items from stores soon like gold contracts and tomes. But as of now am doing it free.
Might go for VIP. but chances are low.

I hope you all reply. Thanks.

PS also would like to know what the stats of weapons mean and how it effects, eg. 2d(3-6) x2. Would be great if you could point me towards a good thread.

Well the first build that came to mind after seeing you wanted unarmed/self sufficient was a 12fighter/8monk:

I want my character to be able to shell out dmg and also use songs and heal spell. Healing definitely isn't as strong as a clerics but I've seen bards dance circles around your average cleric....as far as damage pick up a 2-hander go warchanter you'll be golden

I mostly solo as of now so use a lot of sneak and bluff. I know later on i would have to join party to do quest but as of now i solo cause the timings i play are really not decided. sneak is fairly useless in ddo as its implemented bad and while bluff is normally awesome due to recent changes it's used to allow you to deal sneak attack damage which your bard won't have or much of it if you splash rogue

    3. Am definitely looking to becoming a WarChanter, so what feats are necessary? Power Attack and Weapon Focus: Slashing, Piercing or Bludgeon

Might go for VIP. but chances are low. Not sure how long you've been playing but if you find you like the game and will probably stick around for a while VIP is NOT worth it in the long run its cheaper to buy stuff a la carte.
    some comment i red.

    - Before you roll up a character ESPECIALLY a multiclass you should plan what your doing or your most likely gonna end up rerolling (Note: You can only have 3 classes at once)

    - Personally I prefer pure bards you get your buffs quicker and if you don't need the extra feats I don't really see the big deal about fighter but a 16/2/2 Bard/Fighter/Barb is one of the more popular builds

    - Rogue is a viable splash choice but it will take careful planning (ie. taking rogue a lvl 1) but traps have been pretty much neutered due to people complaining too much and since you already get UMD the only reason to take it is for Evasion which is awesome....oh also OL is always nice.

    Now your Stat spread.

    Str 16
    Dex 11
    Con 14
    Int 10
    Wis 10
    Cha 16

I'm gonna assume there's some tomes in there (or your including equipped items) because I can't get those scores even with with a 32pt human. Anyways let's get started Dump Dex & Wis...no reason for it on this build (even if you splash rogue) your Cha doesn't need to be that high unless your making a CC Bard (ie. not a melee :P) at max level you only need 16 cha to cast all your spells...10 or 12 cha should be sufficient. Int should be based on whatever skills you want (Balance, Concentration, UMD and Perform are good ones)

Try something more like this (based on 32pt human pure melee bard that uses a 2-hander)

    Str 18
    Dex 8
    Con 16
    Int 10 (28pt = 8)
    Wis 8
    Cha 12 (28pt = 10)

Skills: Balance, Concentration, Diplomacy, Haggle, Jump, Perform, UMD (for 28pt drop jump...if you want to fit it MS & Hide drop jump & haggle or diplo for it)

Feats - In Order (Although the order of the 9,12,15,18 feats can be switched around a bit)

    1 Extend, THF
    3 WF: Slashing
    6 Power Attack
    9 ITHF
    12 Toughness
    15 IC: Slashing
    18 GTHF

Oh and before I forget here's a great site for info about well...anything ddo. http://ddowiki.com/

On enhancements, there was a lot I wanted but I couldn't get it all, when at end game play around with them until you have what you want.

However if you still wish a FvS, Cleric or Wizard i'll be happy to do so.
    Hey thanks for the response.

So the self sufficiency of the build relies on the fists of light and healing amp (via gear i spose and some enhancements)?

This character looks like a fun time to play, probably will move across the ground fast, and attack even faster and pretty strongly too.

UMD at endgame will be high enough to hit myself with an array of scroll-buffs, right?

Yes it will rely on FoL/healing amp for most self healing, having a stack of pots as always is a must have.

Cha:8 base+2tome+6item (slotted if you can or situational

    UMD
    11 ranks
    03 cha
    03 SF:UMD
    03 cartouche
    03 Epicbigtop,epic spyglass etc.
    06 gs chaskills
    02 good luck
    04 GH
= 35 UMD with good gear and swapping which is no fail teleport raise dead etc, and a good chance at heal scrolls.

Thanks to all who reply in advance
given your admited newness to the game i would recomend staying pure class for your first wizard. You want to be able to kill with magic and doing that your best of staying pure as a new player. For when you run out of spell points you absolutly can mele with a wf wizard - even a pure one.

Id honestly recomend using a big 2 hander tho rather than 2 swords - the reason for this is that 2 weapon fighting requires a hefty investment of feats and stat point into dex, which will be very hard for a new character that doesnt have 32 point builds and lacks tomes to use.

i'll present a build that will do what you want here - kill with magic and be able to contribute in mele when your mana is running low, or when you find enemies that are resistant to magic.

build 28 points - newbie freindly.
    RACE: warforge.
    CLASS: wizard.
    Prestige: palemaster.

    Stats:
    STR: 14
    DEX: 8
    CON: 16
INT: 18 (all lvl up points go here)
    WIS: 6
    CHA: 6

    feats:
    1: toughness
    1 (wiz): spellfocus necro
    3: powerattack
    5 (wiz): mental toughness
    6: greater spell focus necro
    9: maximise
    10 (wiz): quicken
    12: empower
    15: spell pen
    15: (wiz) heighten
    18: greater spell pen
    20: spell focus enchantment.

    skills:
concentration (max this keep it maxed), hide, move silent, umd, balance, jump, haggle and any other skills you find useful - wizards are odd in that as int is your primary stat you find that the skill points you get will increase as you lvl up - they have lots of skill points but most skills are cross class.

    enhancements:
    palemaster 3
all the shroud forms - lich for casting, vampire for when you want to be crowd control, wraith for stealth missions zombie just for fun.
any 2 elements of your choice.

important spells for any mage that wants to mele:
at any and all spell lvls: repair spells, the main advantage is your ability to self repair even if you arent using a pale master form curenty.
1: masterstouch (this gives you proficiency with a big sword or axe - perfect for what u want), sheild, nightsheild.
2: at low lvls, bulls str. also - blur.
    3: haste, rage, heroism, displacement
    4: firesheild, enervate
    5: cloudkill (provides concealment)
6: reconstruct - the dady of all repair spells, greater heroism
7: ottos dancing sphere, waves of exhaustion
8: irisistable dance or powerword stun.
    9: energy drain.

In adition as a pale master you will also want: death aura and necrotic burst for healing your self when in undead form.

    important equipment:
eventualy you will want: divine power clickes, and a realy good 2 hander weapon such as a shroud crafted mineral 2 great sword.
for casting you will want major lore items for void and the 2 elements of your choice and a superior potency item.

    -------------------------------------------------------------
The main reason ive sugested pale master for you is because you say your looking at being able to contribute when low on mana or to conserve mana. Pale master offers 3 abilities, 1 at each tier that allow you to shoot negative energy blasts for 0 mana cost (there is some hit point cost but this is easily negated by aura, repair wands/scrolls). the free spells combined with swinging a mele weapon and having an active death aura being close to enemies is definatly contributing significantly in all content posibly baring epic.

I am going to be a secondary tank and DPS melee type who helps her kill the monsters so the squishy wizards, rogues and clerics can stay behind us and throw spells. When playing, since she is the primary tank, the cleric or healer usually focuses all of their heals on her and I often times am left to fend for myself. I want to duel wield but also want to throw in a little self healing since I am often times left to fend for myself. I'm confused on how I should approach this build.

I've thought maybe fighter/cleric, fighter/paladin, paladin/ranger(duel wielding spec not bow and arrow build), fighter/ranger or some kind of combination of the above.

I'm pretty firm on the dwarven race and the duel-wielding of a dwarven waraxe and a a warhammer. can someone point me in the right direction ?
to be honest id recomend either a pure class dwarf ranger - tempest, or a dwarf warchanter bard. Fighter is out of the question as you want to dual weild a blunt and slashing weapons, barb is out the question because you want to self heal.

ok so heres a build for ya: (that actualy takes advantage of the SMASH and SLASH principle)

    build: 32 point.
    race dwarf: obviously
    class 2 fighter/18 bard.

    stats:
STR:16 (all lvl ups go here)
    DEX:16 (+1 tome needed here)
    CON:16
    INT:8
    WIS:8
CHA:12 (items needed here to get working spells at higher lvls)

    feats:
    1: toughness
2 (ftr) : weapon focus bludgeon (prerequisite)
    3: 2weapn fighting
    6: power attack
    9: improved 2 weapon fighting
    12: stunning blow
    15: empower healing
    16 (ftr) : greater 2 weapon fighting
    18: quicken

    enhancements:
    warchanter 2
    dwarf axe enhancements
    dwarf tactics enhancements
    fighter stunning blow enhancements.
    toughness
    healing enhancements.

    skills:
    concentration, perform, umd, balance.

note that this build lacks improved crit so i would suggest using keen axes and impact hammers - idealy mineral 2 shroud crafted.

It takes advantage of the smash and slash with using stunning blow - and a stunning warhammer to set the enemy up and then using the hammer and axe which you will do more damage with to kill the enemy.

you will have limited uninteruptable healing in combat with spells and also helaing with wands/scrolls.

I just started playing this game a week ago but I absolutely love it and bought VIP right away. Mostly for the 10 character slots, and the unlocked characters/classes.

I'm having a real hard time finding builds to try though. It is amazing the level of customization in this game. For now seeing as I haven't ever actually played D&D and have little experience in the game I need something to start from and down the road I can make my own decisions. This seems the best place to ask about some builds that I want to play.

These are probably somewhere already, but I'm having a really hard time finding any. And when I do find some all I can use is my judgement to tell if they are actually good or not.

    I want to make a
Drow rouge/wizard (I lik th eidea of it, but I aslo want to handle traps/doors in dungeons and what not. I really don't like mising out on stuff.
    A Human TWF bard
A dwarf melee/healer. (It seems like favored soul is the best option for this, I don't want to be a caster at all)
Some kind of monk would be cool, as they just seem really cool

http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=298161 I have this build for a HOrc Barbarian and it seems pretty good.

Some kind of warforged would also be cool to make. A melee one, with a bit of wizard for the self-heal?

If you could point me to where to look, or if you have some old builds of these sitting around that would be really great! I don't hink builds I keep finding from 2008 are always still the best option..

Here's a decent Half-Elf Palemaster build it's highly focused on survivability while avoiding any cost to spellcasting (the feats I would have taken instead of the shield feats are SF:UMD and Augment Summoning...useful but not required)

Note: For ease of healing before obtaining Zombie form as level 7 (wizard level 6) you can start with FvS dilly than swap to Pally Dilly at 7.

Thanks for the reply, I'm guessing that pally dilly stuff is half-elf things.

If your not going Half Elf dump Cha I only raised it to take Pally Dilly and to use its effect all a Wiz needs is Con & Int so just max those

Edit: O nvm I forgot that drow can't have 18 Con...well...um I dunno stick it wherever...not much use in stats outside of Int & Con

Default REQ - Fighter with rogue for traps/locks

    Greetings all,

My wife and I started playing a week ago or so and have been bouncing around trying to find classes we like. She has decided she wants to play a WF Wizard which leaves me to play the frontline character. We usually just duo due to not being able to commit to groups because we might have to leave the keyboard suddenly because of kids, pups, etc.

With all that being said, I'm thinking a fighter with rogue splash might be my best bet. I bought the 32 pt build option from the store and am now looking for a solid build that would work well as a duo with wiz to get us through the game. At this point I'm not looking for endgame uberness, just being able to get to endgame on first toons

I haven't unlocked drow yet, but do have WF if that is a good race choice (would I hurt my healing options if I went WF?)

I'm thinking TWF if its possible without an investment in tomes or equipment (again, new to DDO, no resources banked or easy obtainable). Would dwarf with 2 dwarven axes be a good choice or should I use hammers for stunning? Or is sword and board a better choice for duo (we'd be running with hirelings). Does the human extra feat pay off in the long run or ... or.... or.... yeah race overload, head spinning......

From what I've read on the forums, 2 levels of rogue should be enough to get me evasion and decent trap/lock abilities which is all I'm looking for (mainly traps to be honest, I'm tired of getting nailed every time I round a corner)

I see a lot of references to Kensai, I'm guessing thats a fighter prestige class? What are the benefits or downsides to going that route?

Thanks to those still reading this long ramble and thanks to all who can help design a build based on the above.
