I really enjoy having so many templates to choose from. Thank you Sigtrent for taking the time to play all of these characters and then posting all of these ideas.
I'm having a hard time understanding the enhancements part of all of this. For instance I'm trying to build The Blacksmith and I see that I should take Ranger Sprint Boost I, Enhancement: Orcish Melee Damage I, and Enhancement: Ranger Favored Damage I. The problem I am having is that I don't see any of those options in the enhancements part in game. Has everything just changed since you created this thread or is it something I'm doing wrong maybe? I'd certainly appreciate any help I could get with this.
The Enhancement system was completely redone with Update 19 (U19) a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, most of the builds on the forums, sigtrent's included, predate U19 and haven't been updated yet. A lot of the feat pre-reqs for PrEs got dropped, too; e.g., you no longer need Dodge/Mobility/Spring Atk to take Tempest, but you do still need most of the Weap Foc/Spec feats for Kensei.

Here's my version of the updated Blacksmith:
Includes enhancements every level, feats, skill raises and epic levels. I'd suggest running in the Fury of the Wild destiny with legendary tactics twisted in. Arkadios - I really like what you have there - I'm a very old player coming back after about 4 years away.
If i can ask a couple questions question and maybe a request (please note - these may be really basic, but I couldn't easily find it out)?
Could you elaborate on what the Monk splash is really giving you?
How are you eventually getting to centered (or are you)?
If I were to build this as a PDK to skip to 15 *because I only have one lvl 16 char from the past* would it seriously hurt the build having to start fighter.
Any tips on building this as a PDK in total?
Last question - and this is a longer one - I was really looking for something similar to this, but perhaps with 2 levels of Rogue (with Rogue 1st level for shadarkai) instead of Monk and more focus on DPS and less on stunning. Might oyu be able to recommend/come up with a similar build.
Thank you!

Ark - Thank you! and thank you to the previous poster as well. I appreciate the explanations - it makes so much more sense.
I'd love to see a similar Shadarkai build that was trap capable replacing the monk splash with rogue levels, using slashing or piercing weapons (whichever fits the build better for itemization/dps) with more of a focus on overall DPS.
Thanks again for your help!
If you're going the centered monk / kensei route and you're not going for Divine Might (i.e., pal/cleric/FvS), I suggest considering rgr 2 / monk 6 instead. Feats are almost a wash: you lose free Prec Shot, ITWF, and Manyshot; but gain Adept of Forms and another monk bonus feat. You also gain access to Shadow Veil and 10K Stars, if you wish. The main drawback is you lose access to higher-tier rgr enhs: in particular +10% offhand from Tempest and anything you might want from AA or DWS.
So I was thinking something like this:
There's probably a more optimal leveling order and I'm on the fence about some of the feats & enhs, but you get the idea. I recommend using handwraps & taking Martial Arts Focus until you hit lvl 12; that's when you can pick up One w/Blade and switch to hammers (while remaining centered).Code:Character Plan by DDO Character Planner Version 04.19.03 DDO Character Planner Home Page Level 28 Lawful Neutral Half-Orc Female (12 Fighter \ 6 Monk \ 2 Ranger \ 8 Epic) Hit Points: 388 Spell Points: 0 BAB: 18\18\23\28\28 Fortitude: 19 Reflex: 15 Will: 10 Starting Feat/Enhancement Abilities Base Stats Modified Stats (32 Point) (Level 1) (Level 28) Strength 19 32 Dexterity 15 17 Constitution 14 16 Intelligence 8 10 Wisdom 11 13 Charisma 6 8 Tomes Used +2 Tome of Strength used at level 7 +2 Tome of Dexterity used at level 7 +2 Tome of Constitution used at level 7 +2 Tome of Intelligence used at level 7 +2 Tome of Wisdom used at level 7 +2 Tome of Charisma used at level 7 Level 1 (Ranger) Feat: (Favored Enemy) Favored Enemy: Undead Feat: (Selected) Point Blank Shot Level 2 (Monk) Feat: (Monk Bonus) Power Attack Level 3 (Fighter) Feat: (Selected) Cleave Feat: (Fighter Bonus) Weapon Focus: Bludgeoning Weapons Level 4 (Ranger) Ability Raise: STR Level 5 (Fighter) Feat: (Fighter Bonus) Great Cleave Level 6 (Fighter) Feat: (Selected) Stunning Blow Level 7 (Fighter) Feat: (Fighter Bonus) Weapon Specialization: Bludgeoning Weapons Level 8 (Fighter) Ability Raise: STR Level 9 (Fighter) Feat: (Fighter Bonus) Improved Two Weapon Fighting Feat: (Selected) Manyshot Level 10 (Monk) Feat: (Monk Bonus) Zen Archery Level 11 (Fighter) Level 12 (Fighter) Ability Raise: STR Feat: (Selected) Greater Two Weapon Fighting Feat: (Fighter Bonus) Greater Weapon Focus: Bludgeoning Weapons Level 13 (Monk) Feat: (Monk Path) Path of Harmonious Balance: Fists of Light Level 14 (Monk) Level 15 (Monk) Feat: (Selected) Improved Critical: Bludgeoning Weapons Level 16 (Monk) Ability Raise: STR Feat: (Monk Bonus) Improved Sunder Level 17 (Fighter) Level 18 (Fighter) Feat: (Fighter Bonus) Improved Critical: Ranged Weapons Feat: (Selected) Master of Forms Level 19 (Fighter) Level 20 (Fighter) Ability Raise: STR Feat: (Fighter Bonus) Greater Weapon Specialization: Bludgeoning Weapons Enhancement: Half-Orc - Tomes wise, without a +3 int tome you won't be getting max ranks in umd (though with a +1 int tome you'll get about 18 umdish (didn't calculate) The +4 dex tome is for improved precise shot, if you can't get one of those choose any feat you want at 24. Apart from that only a +2 dex tome is absolutely required for this build as you'll need it to pick up greater twf.
Hi everyone.
I just came back to DDO and after looking into a pure monk build i gave up on that idea for something else.
What im looking for is a Monk with a splash of rogue enough to be able to disarm traps, open locks etc without a problem even at end game and at the same time play like a monk and be self suficient via scrolls or wands etc. I will solo a lot and i have 2 point build and VIP status.
What im not sure, since all these new updates, is how many lvls or enhancements of each class to take or the best race for the build to work. Should i go short swords with heavy ninja spy focus and dex to dmg enhancements or something like that? If this has been done before please just point me to the build and ill get some ideias from there, but i couldnt find it.
Thank you all for your time.
technically you only need 1 level of rogue or arti to open up trapping/UMD.
as for the rest of your questions... ermm... its early in the morning and i haven't had my caffeine yet.. let me think about it

Q: how do you get me to appear in a thread? A: ask a bard question! XD
The main drawbacks to pure monks these days are the Henshin & Shintao capstones are fairly blah while the Ninja cap is geared towards weapon-based builds (SSs/kama/shuriken); and DR 10/epic ain't worth what it used to be. And since the higher-tier stances are now chooseable feats, you no longer have to sacrifice those by MCing. Plus splashing has become even more OP than pre-U19. Here are a few options:
- Fighter: lvl 1 lets you add a feat, Haste Boost, Extra Action Boost, and a bit more DPS from Martial Arts Focus; lvl 2 gets you another feat and up to +3 DCs
- Ranger: good if you want to make a monkcher, rgr 1 gets you Bow STR and access to T1 PrE abilities (like Conjure, imbues & EotW), rgr 2 gets you 2 more feats and T2 abilities, rgr 3 opens access to lvl 3 core enhs (+10% from Tempest, Morphic imbues from AA, +1d6 SA +10 Pos Spellpower from DWS), rgr 4 gets you Prec Shot & Ram's Might
- Cleric / FvS for Warpriest: lvl 1 gets you Smite Foe + Divine Might, lvl 2 opens up Smite Weakness & Wall of Steel, lvl 4 gets you Ameliorating Strikes
- Paladin: lvl 2 gets you Divine Grace; if you want Divine Might from KotC, you'll need Turn Undead, which means either pal 4 or Twisting in Bane of Undeath from US
- Druid: lvl 2 splash gets you Ram's Might, Shillelagh (if staff-based), Beguile, Vengeful Hunter, and doublestrike action boost, lvl 3 gets you Fatal Harrier (doesn't stack w/Haste or Wind stance tho)
- Rogue: lvl 1 adds UMD, trap skills, and a bit of sneak atk; if you want a staff-based monk, Acrobat gets you +15% atk speed
If anything, the hardest part about splashing a monk is deciding which two classes to take and how deep to splash. EDIT: Quivering Palm DCs are now boosted by Sunder bonuses and it works with weapons, IIUC, so it's kinda hella OP these days; QP req's monk lvl 15.

Semi-retired Build Engineer. Everything was better back in our day. Get off my lawn.
I've had a wacky build rolling around in my head for an old rogue/arti I've had on the shelf, but I just don't know enough about casters to pull it off; can someone flesh this out, even as just a flavor build?
12 wizard/6 artificer/2 rogue
drow
dex/int melee
Balizarde, presumably
Runearm? Shield? Orb?
I was thinking that there must be some way to exploit the EK/PM/BE lines with mostly buff, utility and no DC offensive spells from wizard, insightful strikes and equipment buffs from arti; high incorporeal from PM, shield defense from EK, offense from BE, displacement, stoneskin, etc
The character is useless except as a trap monkey, right now, but lots of cool bound stuff, and I've got an empty character slot, so might as well do something with it
Hello I am just recently returning to DDO and a lot has changed. I am not looking for the best of the best builds for atm I am only working with f2p and 28 point build. I was thinking about something along the lines of a 12 ranger 6 rogue 2 fighter build but not sure how to go about it. With the enhancements and the placing of feats at certain levels its all very confusing was hoping for some help. I am looking to work more in the twf than ranged if that helps and would like to be able to disable device and open most locks. My wife and I will be duoing pretty much exclusively at least we are planning to play that way unless a group comes up. She will be playing with some kind of fighter cleric build she has found and likes but I am a bit lost on how to go about my build. any help would be great thanks.
12 ranger 6 rogue 2 fighter could definitely be a solid build... BUT... i'm curious what you want to get out of it.
the 12 ranger will grant all your important ranged feats aside from point blank shot for the occasional burst (i know you said you wanted to go more melee, but a well timed manyshot is quite nice on occasion... as a ranger you get it for free... don't discount it), evasion, and all your TWF feats, regardless if you qualify via dex or not. leaves lots of feats free to have fun with
the 2 fighter will raise your BAB a tiny bit (meh) and give you 2 extra feats.
search and spot are ranger skills, so keeping trapping skills maxed shouldn't be a problem at all.
6 rogue... hmmm. 3d6 sneak attack die, trapmaking (meh), and uncanny dodge. not real sure why 6 rogue (as opposed to, say, 12 ranger 6 fighter 2 rogue) unless you wanted to go for assassin
i would say 12 ranger 6 fighter 2 rogue... but tier 5 kensai needs a level 8 fighter due to feat requirements ( )
looks to me like a potentially solid melee/ranged character with trapping skills that will be practically swimming in feats. what race were you thinking?
edit: now that the caffeine is kicking in a little.. i have a slightly different plan... plotting it up to see how viable it is... will post shortly.
2nd edit:
human 11 ranger 8 fighter 1 rogue trapping kensai/tempest whirlwind khopesh user. needs +2 str and +2 int tomes (str to qualify for overwhelming crit at 21, and int for more skill points and to qualify for combat expertise which is needed to qualify for whirlwind.Code:Character Plan by DDO Character Planner Version 04.19.02 DDO Character Planner Home Page Soraksis Level 20 Lawful Good Human Male (8 Fighter \ 1 Rogue \ 11 Ranger) Hit Points: 244 Spell Points: 125 BAB: 19\19\24\29\29 Fortitude: 15 Reflex: 13 Will: 5 Starting Feat/Enhancement Abilities Base Stats Modified Stats (28 Point) (Level 1) (Level 20) Strength 16 23 Dexterity 14 14 Constitution 14 14 Intelligence 12 14 Wisdom 10 10 Charisma 8 8 Tomes Used +2 Tome of Strength used at level 6 +2 Tome of Intelligence used at level 6 Starting Feat/Enhancement Base Skills Modified Skills Skills (Level 1) (Level 20) Balance 6 6 Bluff -1 -1 Concentration 2 2 Diplomacy -1 -1 Disable Device 5 23 Haggle -1 -1 Heal 0 0 Hide 6 17 Intimidate -1 -1 Jump 7 16 Listen 0 0 Move Silently 6 17 Open Lock 6 6 Perform n/a n/a Repair 1 2 Search 5 23 Spellcraft 1 2 Spot 4 15 Swim n/a n/a Tumble 6 6 Use Magic Device 3 22 Level 1 (Rogue) Feat: (Human Bonus) Cleave Feat: (Selected) Power Attack Level 2 (Ranger) Feat: (Favored Enemy) Favored Enemy: Undead Level 3 (Ranger) Feat: (Selected) Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Khopesh Level 4 (Ranger) Level 5 (Ranger) Level 6 (Ranger) Feat: (Selected) Dodge Feat: (Favored Enemy) Favored Enemy: Evil Outsider Level 7 (Ranger) Level 8 (Ranger) Level 9 (Ranger) Feat: (Selected) Mobility Level 10 (Ranger) Level 11 (Ranger) Feat: (Favored Enemy) Favored Enemy: Elf Level 12 (Ranger) Feat: (Selected) Combat Expertise Level 13 (Fighter) Feat: (Fighter Bonus) Spring Attack Level 14 (Fighter) Feat: (Fighter Bonus) Whirlwind Attack Level 15 (Fighter) Feat: (Selected) Weapon Focus: Slashing Weapons Level 16 (Fighter) Feat: (Fighter Bonus) Weapon Specialization: Slashing Weapons Level 17 (Fighter) Level 18 (Fighter) Feat: (Fighter Bonus) Great Cleave Feat: (Selected) Improved Critical: Slashing Weapons Level 19 (Fighter) Level 20 (Fighter) Feat: (Fighter Bonus) Greater Weapon Focus: Slashing Weapons Enhancement: Human - Human Versatility: Damage Boost (Rank 1) Enhancement: Human - Action Surge: Strength (Rank 1) Enhancement: Human - Action Surge: Strength (Rank 2) Enhancement: Human - Improved Recovery (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Kensei Focus: Heavy Blades (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Spiritual Bond (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Strike With No Thought (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Extra Action Boost (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Extra Action Boost (Rank 2) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Extra Action Boost (Rank 3) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Kensei Weapon Specialization: Heavy Blades (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Exotic Weapon Mastery (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Haste Boost (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Haste Boost (Rank 2) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Haste Boost (Rank 3) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Kensei Weapon Specialization: Heavy Blades (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Weapon Meditation (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Critical Accuracy (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Critical Accuracy (Rank 2) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Critical Accuracy (Rank 3) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Kensei Weapon Specialization: Heavy Blades (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Critical Damage (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Critical Damage (Rank 2) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Critical Damage (Rank 3) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Kensei Weapon Specialization: Heavy Blades (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - A Good Death (Rank 1) Enhancement: Kensei (Ftr) - Keen Edge (Rank 1) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Shield of Whirling Steel (Rank 1) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Tempest (Rank 1) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Improved Reaction (Rank 1) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Improved Reaction (Rank 2) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Improved Reaction (Rank 3) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Improved Defense (Rank 1) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Improved Defense (Rank 2) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Improved Defense (Rank 3) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Whirling Blades (Rank 1) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Improved Parry (Rank 1) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Improved Parry (Rank 2) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Improved Parry (Rank 3) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Bleed Them Out (Rank 1) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Bleed Them Out (Rank 2) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Bleed Them Out (Rank 3) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Whirling Blades (Rank 1) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Sprint Boost (Rank 1) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Sprint Boost (Rank 2) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Sprint Boost (Rank 3) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Whirling Blades (Rank 1) Enhancement: Tempest (Rgr) - Whirling Blades (Rank 1) Enhancement: Arcane Archer (Rgr) - Arcane Archer (Rank 1) Enhancement: Arcane Archer (Rgr) - Conjure Arrows (Rank 1)
most points spent into kensai and tempest trees. 3 points in AA because, hey.. free arrows is still free arrows. build will have a ranger icon but should kick some srs arse in melee. feats don't have to be taken in the exact order i put them... i was to some degree just plugging them into the builder as i thought of them to see if everything would fit. for instance, might be a good idea to put great cleave earlier... moar cleave is gooooooood i <3 cleave. ^_^ ... skill points get a little thin thru the fighter levels, but with a skill item should still be able to do traps without too much trouble.

Nice I do like the build it fits just about what I was thinking. Just wasn't sure what order to level the classes. Being short on locks is a bit of a bummer but we can't always get everything we want. Thanks for the write up
