It seems to be a valid concern - spamming violates the code of conduct. "You may not spam or flood with multiple posts the game chat or the official Website features."

While we have no control over what the GMs actually do upon such a report, I'd hope that they do investigate it and stop the people who are actually spamming.

Please feel free to place a strip of duct tape going from left to right across your screen 3 inches down from the top.

If you feel I should be banned, I feel you should get to deal with that handicap while you are playing as well. Fair is fair.

The player who pulls the lever is not spamming. In fact he is not even posting to chat.

If you file a report on that, YOU are guilty of harassment and should be banned at least temporarily. Unfounded harassment reports are themselves harassment.

You are correct in the fact that the player is not posting to chat... he/she is posting IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREAKING SCREEN to EVERY player on the server.

It shows up in mine every time.

Edit: just went to our guild site to verify - other people's screenshots show it appearing in their chat window as DMText.

Wrong. He isn't posting anything- he is pulling a lever to complete a quest, to rez people, to get a glyph, or simply to watch it go.

The fact that the server broadcasts a message when he does that isn't his fault or responsibility. If you want to file a complaint, make it out against the developer whose code is launching that message.

If you want to get that technical, none of us ever really post anything - the DDO server does. We simply send the command telling the server to perform the action of sending a message to the intended recipient. In some cases it's entering text, in this case it's pulling a lever. Regardless of the means, it was that action that caused the text to be sent to everyone on the server. If done multiple times, that's spam.

Wrong. When you perform actions where you know the primary and intended purpose is for the server to display a message, you are posting a message.

But when you pull a lever which has multiple prime functions used in gameplay, and which only posts a message as a side-effect, then it isn't you doing the posting.

While I appreciate and agree with how annoying this message is... remember that it is not necessarily the party-leader who is spamming his own name. I have been in groups where someone thought it hilarious to continually throw my name up on the screen for no reason; and only more so when I asked him to stop. Filing harassment reports on the party-leader in a situation like this is absurd. I know it was my name - but I couldn't get it to stop any more than you.

PS and we did, once, have a legitimate time we had to spam because someone kept dying and we needed to rez him. Fix the design, Devs, or please at least comment and this can be a non-issue again.

Well you just contradicted yourself here, Gimp. People are pulling the lever just to spam the post. Therefore they ARE posting as per your requirements. While it may have not be a by developer use of lever design, it is by player design.

Rather than argue this back and forth over semantics that have been done to death (I'm done now.), what do you believe should be done? Should the server announcement for failure/success be allowed to continue or not?

As I said earlier, I hope the GMs actually look into these cases when it gets repeated multiple times. If it's for a valid gameplay issue, then I'd expect the GMs to determine that.

It's one of those things that are about as annoying as plat seller tells though, and if done intentionally just to spam people they should be held responsible.

You know, of all the times I've done that mission (more than you, without a doubt) ... Every time that lever is pulled... it's to revive people so that they get a chance to complete the mission with the rest of us. If you don't pull the lever, they will stay dead for no good reason. Dealing with 5, 10, 20 Air Elementals is not always an easy task.

You see, if you had done the mission before (which I doubt you even have) you would know the purpose of pulling the lever multiple times. Since you'd rather just sit back in the Critic's Gallery and throw peanuts at all the "injustices" in the game, you will never really grasp what is happening.

It's a shame to mount opposition to a cause you know nothing about. All of you who are /signing this petition. For shame.
