Default Probably an easily answered question (Saving rolls)

I was wondering what a reflex roll and dodge roll are. Well, I know what they ARE, I want to know what they effect. Am I correct in assuming that reflex rolls effect trap saves, and dodge rolls effect combative saves?

I'm sorry for the unabashed noobity of my question, but I am almost entirely new to DDO, and D&D as a whole, for that matter.

reflex saves from many spells that you can simply dodge as in real life, like fireball, cone of cold, they also save from traps aswell

Hope this helps, quote from PnP rules. Just for explaination of saving throws in general.

    SAVING THROWS
Generally, when you are subject to an unusual or magical attack, you get a saving throw to avoid or reduce the effect. Like an attack roll, a saving throw is a d20 roll plus a bonus based on your class, level, and an ability score. Your saving throw modifier is: Base save bonus + ability modifier
Saving Throw Types: The three different kinds of saving throws are Fortitude, Reflex, and Will:
Fortitude: These saves measure your ability to stand up to physical punishment or attacks against your vitality and health. Apply your Constitution modifier to your Fortitude saving throws.
Reflex: These saves test your ability to dodge area attacks. Apply your Dexterity modifier to your Reflex saving throws.
Will: These saves reflect your resistance to mental influence as well as many magical effects. Apply your Wisdom modifier to your Will saving throws.
Saving Throw Difficulty Class: The DC for a save is determined by the attack itself.
Automatic Failures and Successes: A natural 1 (the d20 comes up 1) on a saving throw is always a failure (and may cause damage to exposed items; see Items Surviving after a Saving Throw). A natural 20 (the d20 comes up 20) is always a success.

Snike answered it pretty thoroughly, but I can't resist.

I haven't dodged a fireball or CoC in real life, what is your occupation, and how often are you encountering them?

prolly a fireman seems the most probable occupation. dodging exploding canisters or trying to aviod a fellow fireman accidentally spraying you with a fire extinguisher
If you want to know why...

Not sure if anyone answered your question about dodge. Dodge is a type of Armor Class (AC) bonus that increases your AC and makes it harder for mobs to hit you. You don't (usually) have to do anything special to use an ability that gives you a dodge bonus;e.g. the Dodge feat - its "on" all the time.

Dodge bonuses are good because they are the only bonus type (other than non-specified) that stacks with itself. Usually only the largest bonus of a particular type counts, so if you have a ring of protection +2 on one hand (provides +2 deflection bonus to AC) and a ring of protection +3 on the other hand (provides +3 deflection bonus to AC), only the +3 counts.

Not sure where the 'dodge roll' came from? If you're referring to tumbling rolls, tumble is a skill you can use to maneveur in combat. Not sure if it gives you an AC bonus though. Might have to defer to wiser minds than mine for that...

Tumble provides a +2 bonus to AC ( while you are tumbling ), and reduces the damage you receive from falling ( passively ). If you have the mobility feat, the AC bonus increases to +4, and Fighters get an enhancement line that can boost it further.

Sorry that was just my noobinosity miss translating the Dodge feat.

I also have a small question on AC. AC affects "to Hit" chance, correct? As opposed to "Damage resistance"?

Correct. AC helps you avoid damage in this game. Damage resistance lets you attempt to soak up some of it.
Rangers don't die, they just teleport to their bind point.

Ah, cool. Thanks bandyman1. Got a question of my own but don't want to hijack Slyde's thread with questions about attacks of opportunity, so I'll start a new thread...
