    Default Favored Enemy Advancement

    Greetings,

Warning: I am a new player to DDO (just started last weekend), please excuse my inexperience.

I just hit lv 5 with my ranger, and got to pick a new favored enemy. It went like this:

    Rgr1 FE: Undead
    Rgr5 FE: Giant

Now, how does the advancement go (ignore any enhancements to it for now)? I know at level 1 I had +2 damage to undead. At lv 5, what is my bonus against undead and what is my bonus against giants?

In PnP, I would have +2 to each of them, plus another +2 to give you either of them (so +4 total to one and +2 to the other, my choice which gets which). DDO leaves me with the vague reassurance that the bonus goes up with each new favored enemy (leading me to believe I might be +4 to both), but might just be a poor way of stating I get a new favored enemy, and I'm actually at just +2 to each.

Can anyone shine some light on this for me?

    Thanks,

    Ilontu

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't give +2 to both, rather your first one goes up +1 so:

    +3 undead
    +2 giants

and for your 3rd at lvl 10 it would be:

    +4 undead
    +3 giant
    +2 XXXX

    barring any enhancements of course.

*Edited to not come across too harshly....

From what the more experienced ranger forum posters say, you get the same bonus for every favored enemy, and it goes up each time you get a new one... No scaling, no +x vs "this type", and +y vs "that type". I've never bothered to do the math myself...

But my understanding is that at level 5 when you have two favored enemies, you will get +4 vs both of them. At level 10, it'll be +6 vs three types, and so on up to +10 vs five types at level 20.

It's one of the more common arguements that gets tossed back and forth when people are discussing if you should stay pure ranger for all 20 levels....

DDO is indeed +4 to all favored enemies at level 10.

    Level 10? Or level 5?

I think level 5 because I'm pretty sure it's +6 at 10. Then again I've been playing around with my bard a lot lately so I could be mistaken.

Correct, DDO has a number of changes from the PnP D&D game when it comes to how some things like this are implemented. What this does mean is that as long as you end up with the right list of Favored Enemies at the end of the day, you will be fine and the Undead, Giants for the first two are very popular and useful choices.
