Thumbs up Suggestion - Time release traps

My guild is soooooo going to kill me for postiong this to Turbine but what the hey

What about having traps that do not immediately fire when set off. For instance, it is literally quite common for groups to send in their rogue to pop a trap since they normally duck and avoid 99% of the damage.

However, picture this scenario and the shear joy and terror it would bring to the players...

Party sends in the rogue and said rogue pops the chest (after looking all over for the traps). Not seeing any traps, the rogue calls out for everyone to come as it is all clear. Then 5 sec to 30 secs later (maybe 1 min), the delayed trap fires off, leaving a bunch of speared corpses strung all over. Or burnt husks of dwarves. You pick.

Thoughts? Other than I am truly evil (my wife tells me that on a daily basis).

Wishes - When you wish upon a falling star, your dreams can come true. Unless it's really a meteorite hurtling to the Earth which will destroy all life. Then you're pretty much hosed no matter what you wish for. Unless it's death by meteor.

I don't know what groups you play with but as a rogue I find the best tools for detecting traps are the tanks who zerg ahead and set them off for me

We tend to be a little smarter.

Of course that is unless I am playing a Dwarven Barbarian, then the above happens...

Great idea, especially if the delay time is random.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.

    1 Minute?

Rogue runs in, opens the chest, every else runs in, loots it, runs out, then watches the trap go off?

Rogoue runs in, opens the chest, everyone waits a minute, rogue passes his reflex save, everyone runs in and loots it?

Unfortunately it is impossible to make a trap that can carry on being effective after it has been seen a couple of times.

How about this: a trap that only activates one a certain number of people (3?) are within its area of effect. That would have a similar effect, but you wouldn't have to worry about the trap going off too early or too late.

There are a couple examples already of time delay traps though the only one I can remember is two is a series with the second one on a delay.

Your delayed traps go off faster than my search animation... really anyone time it? It's like 5 combat rounds.

The next best thing is some of the traps we currently have. Box is at point A, trap itself is at point B (the party's "safe" waiting area). Same end effect as the delay.
