    Default warforged vs mindflayer

just out of curousity, i have been curious about how a mindflayer is capable of eating the brain of a warforged. since the typical flayer has to eat fresh brains to sustain itself and since a warforged isnt technically a mortal creature or a cyborg with a fleshy brain how can it be devoured.

If I remember correctly, War Forged are made up of both inorganic ( metal ), AND organic material. If that's the case, then there's nothing saying that they don't have an organic brain for the flayer to eat, although, how the tentacles could bore through thier face plates is another matter.

I was under the impression that the organic material Warforged were composed of was elemental wood or something like that. There is no fleshy brain or anything akin to a human brain in there.

I don;t have a problem with the Mindflayers mind blast working on WF, but the "eat brains" things shoudn't happen.

Honestly Idahe, I couldn't tell you. Took at look at the Eberron book a friend bought when it was first released. I do remember it saying that they were composed of organic and inorganic materials, but I couldn't tell you what those materials were.

In DDO, the bad news is that weather there is a brain or not, the flayers can suck your skull and the vaccuum created implodes your head and kills you.

In DDO, the good news is that when your WF friend gets his head "eaten" before you, you get a few more seconds to live and hopefully kill the Flayer, while he is puking his gets out. If you havent sen this effect, it is quite humorous, drag your local WF to the Shrieking mines today and check it out for yourself!

So you get a 2-fer, for the cost of 1 WF brain sucking, you get a good laugh and a briefly incap Flayer. how can that be bad?!?

EDIT- Who cares what they're made of, its great to watch the flayers vomit all over themselves!

Can a warforged have its brain extracted by a mind flayer?

Yes. His brain may not look like the illithid’s normal meal, but a warforged is a living creature and thus is just as
vulnerable to that dreaded attack as any human or dwarf. (That said, the Sage expects that warforged brain likely isn’t a commonly appreciated meal among mind flayers. Probably an acquired taste at best.) The same is true of other effects that might not apply to constructs (such as a vorpal weapon, which doesn’t have much effect against most constructs), unless otherwise stated in the living construct subtype.

All special attacks function against warforged normally unless the warforged write up in ECS specifically says they don't work.

This means things like a vampire's Blood Drain and a mind flayer's Extract ability both work.

If you want a "fluff" explanation for how it happens...

Warforged, unless specifically stated otherwise, have analogs to a human's physiology. A warforged doesn't have "blood" but he does have some sort of fluid that's necessary for his health and well being. Draining this fluid is analogous to draining a human's blood. Likewise he may not have a "brain" but he has some sort of mass of organic matter in his head which serves as a central nervous system and which can be extracted to somewhat disastrous effect.
