Exclamation Path of mortality:) have fun reading...

As most of you knows, senior wizzards/sorccerers can alter theyr path of mortality, becoming a lich,or some otehr entities which are part undead(will expand about)

well we can actually do it with the enhancements, but let's 1st what the path of mortality is in D&D, and which way can you go, this thread is intended for casters only (both divine and arcane).

    the unlimate magi - LICH
a lich is a magi who's life has been prolonged to keep study magic, the soul of the person is held in an objest named as "phylactery", this soul house, replaces the heart, and the soul+arcane magic replaces the brain.
in this proccess (PnP rules) the magi needs to approve his lichdome..throwing percental dice (1d100) and have 50% to die,yes he can try again later, but the materials are very hard to get (dragon's blood and stuff like that i can't actually remember, it's an FR PRC)

now...if you give a player the powers of a real lich...he will be unbeatable..so it should look like that after some balance (not final lol just concept):
immunity to death spells - V
    full undead immunity - X
    lich tauch - V
    fear aura - V
spells immunity up to lvl 4 spells - XXXXXXX (lol just think if someone with natural arcane immunitys)

any way that's not even 10% or the list and i gave it only 10 seconds of thought, but you got the idea

2nd way to gain immortality is the divine way, some clerics, are known to prolonge theyr life to keep helping this world, or make even worse for the favor of theyr god. i cannot remember the name of the PRC but anyway only elvan cleric can do so,i'll try to get more info about it, should be named something like "baelnorn" but not sure

but 1st of all...any eternal being must be 1st epical being (lvl 20),than gain demi-human feats i hope that you liked the concept...and that some day, i will be able to be a lich

i've heared something about proffesions...crafting skills...if they add the "craft wonderous item" they can make a full lich PRC

Actually, a lich can be good as well. They allowed for it in one of the Forgotten Realms books, stating that it was rare but can happen. Since lichdom isn't something that happens accidentally, you could have a good character that is willing to sacrifice themselves to becoming a lich in order to be around for long-term goals, etc.

I'm pro anything that helps convince turbine that adding evil aligns is a good thing!! There was also a prestige class published by Dragon a few years back that basically turns into a lich, but it's a long process as opposed to hey, I'm a lich now!!

Eberron has this funky thing available to the elves. Specifically the Aerenal elves,
    Deathless.
    Positively aligned undead.

Undying counsilors are essentially 'good lich's' They are healed as normal living creatures and harmed as normal living creatures. However they have the same undead effects as lich's, only reversed (evil aura/good aura ect...)
These are special though, only the elves held in the highest esteem are ever granted the privelage of becoming a member of the 'undying court'

Undying Soldiers are much the same as zombies yet they are sentient, retain their memories, some special abilities and the like. Again only the elves held in the highest esteem are ever granted the privelage of becoming a deathless soldier.
    Meh.....

While somewhat different, the Fiend-Blooded (I think that's the name) PRC from Complete Adventurer could be a cool one to add into the game in this vein of "transformation". It wouldn't be nearly as overpowering either.

Heck, we need PRC's in the first place. Done right too, as MC, none of this PRC through the enhancement system crude. If it's not a form of MCing, its not PRC.

There are a couple kinds of lich therefore u do not have to evil. In 2nd ed dnd the demilich was of a good alignment IIRC.
