Default Current Updates on a DVD or CD

I had to re-install the game recently. And after allowing the game to update all 9000 or so downloads, it took over 8 hours to complete.

Now I have asked this question before, there has got to be a better way to install this game, with all of the new or recent updates.

My problem is quite simple, the launcher is having problems downloading all of the patches and updating itself, which is actually causing issues now to a point where I can't even load the game. Every time I start the launcher, it tells me that my client version isn't current, and that no downloads are needed. I have done this three times.

I live in Alaska, and every ISP available has a limited usage per month. Mine is 10 gigs. Now after downloading the game three times in the past week, I have almost used up all of my downloading. 10 gigs has NEVER been a problem before, the closest I have ever come is 4 gigs.

My question is... (and I have asked it before)... Could Turbine PLEASE release a DVD or CD Set with all of the new updates available. For a subscriber, who pays 15.00 per month, and purchased the game for 50.00 at a local store, this shouldn't be too much to ask. I don't mind paying the shipping costs, and/or even up to 10.00 for the DVD itself.

I only ask about this, because if anything happens to the game again, like it did to me three times in a row now, and for some crazy reason, I have to reinstall again, I would like to install with a more current patches and not have to download all night long.

Is this really too far fetched to make something like this happen?

I'm moving you over to development discussion, and you should be able to get the attention you deserve here.

Umm what you could do, is DL the trial client, which has everything up to Mod 4 I think. That way you wouldn't have to patch as much when you have to reinstall next time.

Yeah I did that last week to install to my laptop ... downloading the trial client (2.5 gig) will knock the updates down to around 2500

Thats what?... a little more than a quarter as many files? Still takes a long time to update. I recommend watching something long on DVD like ... LOTR Extended Version?

Well thanks for some options Drider, and SneakThief. However these options call for downloading again. Plus, if I remember correctly, the downloadable client does not come with High Res Textures. I am trying to avoid lengthy and costly downloads.

This is an excellent idea - I would be willing to pay at least $5 for a physical "update" CD/DVD.

I reimage my machine frequently (about once a quarter). I have started keeping a backup of the "Turbine" folder on my external drive. Everytime I do a fresh install, I just copy that backup over the one created by the fresh install and I can log on update free. The current folder is 6.72 GB, so it should fit on a DVD.

That's probably the best idea I've heard of yet. You haven't had any installation problems by doing it this way?

I had to do a full uninstall/reinstall fairly recently when the LOTRO beta screwed up my DDO install. I did it from DVD and let the client update. It wasn't that bad, probably 2hrs or so.

What I do, is after every major update, I copy the .dat files in program folder (they are the largest files in the folder).

You can just copy them to a dvd or two. If you have to re-install. just re-install the game. Copy the .dat files over from the dvd or wherever you copies them from.

    Saves a lot of time.

Turbine should put the latest code out on CD/DVD with every anniversary and make a big deal about it.

Yes you can. But, the Trial and Digital Download do not have the "Very High" graphics datafiles.
