Default Does "Undeath to Death" work on anything?

I tried to use Undeath to Death for the first time last weekend. I never figured it would be very useful, but was suprised to find it %100 totally useless. Every single undead I tried to use it on flashed "Immune". I tried it in several quests, level 9's and lower (some on elite, some not.)

So I quess my questions are; does this spell work on anything and will it ever be made usable?

I believe it works in the Catacombs.

I'd be willing to bet that it works on the goodblade daggers quest. On normal. Hard might be pushing it.

If you can turn it, the spell stands a good chance of working.

The spell, even in PnP is rather underwhelming, but in this game it is even worse.

I'd understand if it just wasnt very effective. I mean, I can still turn once in awhile when im soloing a quest for favor so thats cool. It was coming up as immune with pretty standard undead though (to me anyways, i mean I could even sometimes turn these guys but they were immune to this spell.)

Goodblade, Catacombes and some in Delara's. But only on normal. Dunno what they were thinking when they added it. It's a good spell for PnP, bad in DDO because of inflated HD of mobs. Especially undead.

Spell diversity, regardless to whether or not the spells are actually useful or effective.

Like Circle of Death it is currently only a cool little spell that you only bring if you are on those very low level quests in which you need favor. Relly havnt found any other use for these spells.

Now in PnP encounters are set up a little different. The CR12-14 boss you SHOULD be fighting at that level would have a group of toadies ranging anywhere from CR4 to CR10, thyis spell would be useful in eliminating them so you can more easily get to the boss.

DDO at that level you are fighting CR16-20 with CR10-14 toadies = you have know idea where this spell works.

The only time I used this spell to any degree of effectiveness was when running Necropolis quests for Favor at Lvl12....and that was just to check it out. I could have easily saved some SP and fireballed everything. Even when it lands, it isn't doing much good. If you are being charged by four Wights and three Ghasts, the spell will not get them all (only three at a time I believe). One fireball will take them all down and cost less in doing so.

It works in LotD2 on normal. It works on a lot of things on normal.

But no one plays on normal.

Hmmmm...could of swore I was trying it in both Normal and Elite. One of the quests on normal was a level 9 I believe...perhaps Keepers Sanctuary but I cant remember for sure? The elite quests I tried it on were level 6 or 7 max.

If it works in LOTD2 ill have give that a shot later, maybe its just an issue with certian quests and certian types of undead. The undead I was trying it on though were able to be turned and seemed like your basic undead that should be affected by this sort of thing.

Sorry, it works on some stuff in LotD2 on normal. It won't kill everything in there.

Undeath to death is an outstandingly effective, if narrow purposed spell.

The problem people have with undeath to death is that it in fact is poorly described.

What it says in the description is:

"Destroys undead creatures in the area. This spell will kill one target of up to 9 hit dice per every 4 caster levels (max 4). A successful will save negates this affect."
However, this is bereft with typos. The proper description should be:

Destroys 35 points of the casters spell points with no other effect. This spell will kill one use of an as powerful (or multiple castings of less powerful) spell(s) per usage. A wisdom check must be made by any ally who views the caster using this spell, to determine whether they note the caster is (evidently) feebleminded (for using this spell)."
The nice thing about this spell is that it's stupidity can be enlarged and quickened to bring on the spell point loss faster and at a greater distance!

By the time the banishing weapons failed to work against the 4.0 elite mobs you should know the HD system is screwed.

Banishing weapon works on outsider like 24 HD or lower. In PnP, 24HD is an epic level mob.

'Death to undead' is still sticking to the PnP rule, take a look of the spell description, and you will agree it only works fine in Goodblades......NORMAL

Even if we did play on normal, things are usually carved through by the melees before you can actually target and cast a spell like this.

And the adventure difficulty settings need to be changed at this point to

    Solo
    Novice
    Veteran
    End Game

    Default P.S.: Brainstorming

Why or what can make a 11/12 wizzy/sor to spend a slot in the SIXTH level spell, for something which can only works against SEVERAL undead, of 9th level, normal content?

This is just patently untrue. Check, for instance, the HD/CR on the Elder Earth Elemental.

I ran a buddy through the catacombs on elite, and it worked decently, even in the "big climb" right before the final encounter.

However, I've never used it since, nor do I expect to.

This freakin spell is useless on about 90% of the undead in the game. It's not that they save against it, which some do, it is they are freakin IMMUNE!!

    Are you freakin kidding me?!?!

Ghasts, ghouls, wraiths even some skels and zombies are IMMUNE to a spell that is specifically designed to kill them. What in the freakin world were they smoking when they implemented this spell like this?!? It is a waste of time and spell slots to even think of taking, if you're a Sorc and a waste of materials to bother inscribing for the Wiz. I wouldn't even bother carrying a scroll of it around unless I was needing tinder to make a fire with.

For crying out loud there is NO reason that ANY undead should be immune to this. Take less damage? Sure. Save against it? Absolutely. IMMUNE? NO FREAKIN WAY, unless they are a red or maybe even orange name. It should work similar to PK. They save they take some damage, no save....pfft dead. Hell even make it have a higher rate of save than normal and I would be happier, but seeing immune over and over for a high level spell like this is asinine.

I would say this is the most pathetic spell implemetation I have seen but I am still new to the game and haven't seen everything yet. There may be spells that are worse. I can only hope there aren't.

Oh well, just venting since this is probably an old thread and like I said im new in the game...sigh.

    Default Enjoyed reading this again

I hope the development team learns to adjust spells effectiveness upward to compensate for the increased HP of creatures. Spells like this and power word blind and power word stun, could make this game fun if they would only be effective when used. A developer once commented that power word blind was effective as the monsters HP were reduced by a fighter, to below the threshold of the spell. Well that monster would usually be killed before the spell could be cast at that lowered HP level.

Hoping a dev reads this, and learns the frustrations people have with ineffective spells. Put some fun into the game, make these things work, scale the spells up to reflect the increased HD and HP and number of monsters per encounter, compared with PnP. Thanks, here is hoping for a few changes!

haha, no. While a lead designer's job is to balance the game as a whole, each system designer (and each level designer/content guy) is responsible for their own little bit of the game. So as such, I balance spells/enhancements, graal has items and treasure, and Eladrin runs around going "raaar!" a lot. I think he does monsters.
