Is anyone running a Permadeath guild? I'm getting more interested in this as time goes by...
I don't believe there are many pure permadeath guilds on Khyber. Alistair (on the forums) and I have been discussing the possibility of creating a permadeath group as part of DWG, though our schedules have not meshed well this past month. However, I would anticipate that we will have this all sorted by the holidays.
I have really been interested in trying a perma-death experience myself. I have, this week, convinced 3 friends to give it a go on Khyber (or another server if we want to avoid the temptation of twinking).
We are going to meet on-line tonight to cover the ground rules and set a regular play schedule.
If you are interested, let me know!
In an ongoing attempt to meet the needs of players on Khyber, Kindoki and I have been discussing the possibility of creating a Permadeath Guard within our guild. We are still hammering out details like how and when. If either he or I are not able to attend tonight, please keep us infomed on what is going on.
Me me me me me
It looks like last August someone tried. I don't know if they are still around. Here is a link:
http://highcouncilguild.info/index.php?topic=32.0
Kindoki and I have been trying to meet in game for a chat, but it's proved a little difficult given the time differences (I'm in Australia). I'm 16 hours in front of US EST at the moment...
However, it is encouraging that people are interested and ultimately it will be good to have participants from different servers.
Kindoki has the infrastructure and know how to host a guild already so I am keen to take advantage of that. Kindoki - why don't you choose a time for interested participants to meet in the Wavecrest with their newby characters. I'll do my best to make it (even if it means losing a little sleep).
I reckon the sooner we start this the better, as there seems to be a bit of a groundswell at the moment. Once we get up and running I'm hopeful that we'll get enough players to have groups at both peak and off-peak times.
Just a quick poll - what time zone are people in and what time is good to meet for all those interested? First in with suggestions are likely to set the agenda.
And think about the ruleset people want. The original proposition was:
Basic no twinking, PD set-up.
1. Must be level one to join.
2. Strictly NO twinking.
3. If your character dies it must leave the guild (or be deleted) unless you are ressed in the adventure by a member of the party who was in the adventure when you died.
4. Rest shrines are allowed, but not res shrines.
5. If your character dies, you may pass on one item to another of your characters as an "heirloom".
6. If they can recover your stone, surviving party members may loot one item each (or stack of items) from your corpse, only if you choose to permit it. (It's like being an organ donor.)
7. No use of the auction house.
8. Don't exit and then re-enter a quest unless it has reset (unless a group mate gets into trouble after you've left, in which case you may go back in to help).
9. No grouping except with guild or with a member of another stict PD, non-twinking guild member with similar rules to ours.
10. Gifts or trades of any sort from characters outside the guild are prohibited.
11. You may run whatever quests you like and repeat them if you like, but diversity is encouraged.
12. Have fun, enjoy the content, don't spoil surprises for others, role-play is encouraged.

I have a group of 4 interested in permadeath.
We plan to meet with level 1s on Friday, 12/7 at 10 p.m. U.S., CST . (right now we have planned a 4 man of a fighter, bard/rogue, sorc, cleric .. but more players would open up opps).
We would love to have at least 3 more. We will need more than 6 based on setting a permanent schedule and people's availability so there will be room to substitute rotate players as necessary etc...
Any interest?
Although in guild now, I would imagine we would be willing to have the new characters in a "perma" guild.
sign me up =). i'll make the toon in a bit, and repost the name.
~Kire
I have many permadeath charters on 2 other server I wouldn't mind makeing one or two on kyber aswell and come play with you guys once or twice a week for a quest or two.
Can PD members shop at Qwijymart?
Kire, Purgatory, Alzarq want in - can you make Friday?
LOUDrampart, Kinoki, Citymorg, alistar, strakeln?
Looks like we could make a raid group, discuss final rules, create a Guild (or-Sub-Guild as the case may be), set regular crawl schedule.
Right now we are at 12, enough for 2 groups. This would allow us to run 2 full groups and mix and match on a regular schedule - I am assuming people will want to try different characters after they die. What can I say, I am an optimist.
At a minimum, given RL situations, w/ 12 we should always be able to run at least 1 full group on a regular schedule (x1-2 / week).
What's the sentiment?
I can make it Friday evening.
Friday what time (est)?
~Kire
10 p.m., U.S., CST
I have not yet created a character but plan to do so over the next couple of days and get them through the intro stuff and some of the solo only quests. I will get a character name for you soon. I will also get the character names of the other 3 I know of.
If you have a preference for a certain class, just let me know so we can make sure we have a "spread" of classes.
Some people believe in "pure" classes only for permadeath - I really do not care. Does anyone else have a strong preference?
Would it be easiest to form a sub-sect of your Guild or would you prefer a new Guild entirely?
I ask b/c I have no desire, time or inclination to run a Guild and if you do - more power to you. And does anyone else have a concern or question on this?
I would only be concerned about "bank" space or other issues which might be of concern in keeping the perma players distinct and separate from the the other Guild members.
I agree there are positives and negatives to both a new guild or a subset.
Unfortunately, this is something that I don't have an answer to right now. At the moment though, at a minimum, DWG is prepared to offer forum space and a home for a permadeath group. By Friday, I should have a better idea of whether we (both from a guild and PD player perspective) would best be served by including PD members in the general ranks of DWG, or as a separate subset.
Either way, I would be looking for someone to step up to the plate in running this, though with my full support, because my first charge is to the overall function of DWG rather than one portion. Don't get me wrong though...I am totally stoked about a PD group...it just can't be my only focus!
Can make friday at 10. New toon is multi-classed hope that doesnt mess with the PD thing. The toon isnt in a guild and im willing to form a new one or join another.
By the way the build for my toon is:
2 rog/1 ranger/11 Fighter. Great crossbow user with high str.
~Kire
Multiclassed is fine.... just as long as your lvl 1 when you start!
May I suggest those who can hook in on Friday and start a new guild "Untwinked Permadeath" (no confusion there) or whatever else. Then we'll post the details in the forums and let it grow organically. The key is to get players started. Once we're going, we can decide later whether to bring it formally under Kindoki's umbrella.
I can make 10pm, Friday night. I'm thinking either an elf pali or elf cleric, gotta put some thought into it.
I'm in Japan so we could actually make plans to meet during the week when we both have the time. I have a teenage son who is interested in PD play too so that makes three of us during off peak time.
This is one rule I just don't get. Even though we are going to play PD, that doesn't mean we're going to separate ourselves from the MMO part of the game and part of the game is the market, no matter how ridiculously priced some items are. I would think buying and selling ingame should be allowed... anywhere... but all money earned must be by that character... so no twinking at all from any alts or other players.
Always loved the sound of PD. Jonahh is the character - halfling pure rogue
Thanks
Hmmm... any room for a lady?
I'll be around Friday look for a char named Mabel
My role in Deathwatch Guard to run all things "not uber." At this point, I am running weekly roleplaying sessions on Thursday nights and raids 1-2 nights per week. I will pick this ball up and run with it. Since there is obviously interest in Permadeath, and no one else is doing it, I will create a space with Deathwatch Guard for this play style. I will try to be on friday. I have family coming into to town and have commited to a guild event on saturday. This will have to take a backseat to that. However, if I am not able to make it, I will start a thread in our Thespian Phalanx forum on DWG.GUILDPORTAL.COM (doesn't pop) for Permadeath. Discuss what rules, what times and what frequency you want to play. When a consensus is reach, post it in our forum and will start.
Ok, I am happily surprised by the level of interest. Of course ladies are welcome Talish.
Here is the plan then, Friday night ~ 10 p.m. U.S., Central Standard Time (CST), meet in the Leaky Dinghy (Khyber server). LD so we can pick-up those quests and it is fairly out of the way with little traffic generally. No characters beyond 1st level, I am okay if you run your characters through "solo only" content to get acclimated, how does everyone feel on that?
Before Friday, I will try to list out who is coming and with what characters. We will need to have well-rounded groups, so we might need some sacrifices on character classes (someone has to play a cleric).
But it clearly sounds as if there is enough interest to have 2 groups going at first, to start a Guild and to finalize a regular schedule. :D
We have been discussing creating a Deathwatch Guard PD to accomodate players who want to play this style. This will allow people to have their main alts in there regular guilds and no need to join DWG with their PD characters (to avoid unwanted tells for non-PD quests). If this is ammenable to everyone, it will provide a place for players to see each other and hopefully play outside of regular planned events.
Meet ya there! I'm dying to make this game interesting before I wind up quitting.... Again.
I don't feel especially strongly about this and welcome everyone's views. I also don't propose to ban "consumables" (wands etc).
But here are my thoughts on the AH. The real problem I have with the auction house is that it is the greatest facilitator of twinking in the game. People running gianthold, or pre-raids, or exploiting the Reaver at the moment are just throwing super good loot on the AH, driving the price of reasonably good loot down (check prices on +3, +4 and +5 stat items nowadays). And if you pull a really nice twink item you could sell it on the AH for enough to stock up with consumables for the life of most PD characters.
One of the best things about PD is that when you pull that +1 dwarven axe as an end reward from the Low Road you're cheering and are going to carry it through a couple of levels at least as your "uber" weapon. And that collectibles are important again. PD actually tries to get away from a typical MMO economy . It's like your old pnp DM, who would never have let you buy a +1 flaming longsword at level 4 (you'd be lucky to have a +1 anything).
So you won't always have optimal weapons and armour. You may be using that +x shortsword instead of a dwarven axe, because it's better than any axe you've ever seen. Versatility and player attributes shine again and builds aren't based around a perfect loot set. Just my thoughts, but the seriously scaled back equipment choices are one of the things I find most fun about PD, so I'm for banning the AH. And let's be honest - just selling on the AH instead of at a vendor indubitably nets you more money. I think it's incompatible with a strict "no twink" approach.
PS- looking forward to grouping with you and your son!
Personally I love the Idea that you only use what you get.
For me the play style is an escape from the whole farming mentality that makes the game mind numbing. Makes it more interesting when the cleric is burning wands. Ya better Tithe
I'm one of the 3 of tmdag4's buddies he mentioned earlier. I'm definitely in!
I have rolled a 1st level Sorcerer and he's run most of the solo 1st level content, but is not 2d level yet. I guess I just have a death wish and that's why I'm choosing to play a squishy permadeath character. I hope I don't regret it, but I plan to have fun or die trying! :-)
Character's name is Gandryck Stevlyllian, Drow Sorcerer. See you there! Leaky Dinghy, 10:00pm CST.
If you want i will start to keep track of the people coming. I'll list by forum name then i'll put the char name next to it.

Thats all I counted in the thread who said they were coming. Please list your character class/attributes and name in this thread or send me a PM with the information and I will update the list. Thanks!
EDIT!: Sorry guys i had it spaced pretty but it got all messed up.
DOUBLE EDIT!: kk got it fixed just took some HTML.
Or, if you were going to that much trouble, you could just mail it to yourself. It's not like we have mail police. PD is predicated on everyone self policing their actions.
I tend to agree on removing the AH - to me it's a bit like telling everyone you are going to go stalk deer with just your hunting knife and then borrowing your buddies gun and blasting away. Kind of defeats the purpose. I apologize as my time is taken up this week with RL, so I can't offer much assistance, but I will be there on Friday, and before the 10pm cst start. I will make sure to have a character prepared - most likely a strategist sword and board melee type.
I am in. Friend/guilder of Kindoki's and Citymorg's.
I'll be on Blixs, a rogue/ranger type.
Mabel - Tactical fighter
List has been updated with new classes, members, and char names.

Female Human Cleric (emphasis: healing,, turning)

Still deciding on race/class/character
Sign me up.
I got a 1st level WF cleric Ambunaght I might play.
Either that or I might do a repeater bard since im interested in playing a bard and trying out the repeater
Here is a summary of proposed rules with some questions to be thought about and answered. If we can come to some consenus now, it would probably get us off quicker on Friday. Proposed Rules for “Untwinked Permadeath”
13. Qwijymart shopping? (none, limited, unlimited?)
14. Drow, 32 point builds?
15. All items offered to party before sale? “Special” or “known” good items to Guild?
16. Does Guild get 1 item “heirloom”?
In terms of questing, I would prefer not repeating quests for xp beyond x1 per each difficulty unless "catching-up" fellow guildies and it is not a power-level. I don't want to repeat quest because they are "easy."
I'd like to try this out.
Halfling Paladin name is Meridoc
13. I think this is similar to #10 or do we want to denote him as a vendor? By the way is buying magic items (potion, scrolls, wands) from the vendors allowable?
14. I think if you got it available go for it, cause once you got 32 point build you cant make 28 point unless you use the template.
15. are you talking about a guild mule....ahem quartermaster who would be like a guild stash.
16. not sure what your meaning on this one.
I hope i can use my drow =(
List updated.
~Kire
an heirloom is when one of your characters 'die' you can give only 1 item to your next character.
Well, you know my views on 1-12.
13. I'm fine with that. Qwijymart is a recognised vendor!
14. My view is, whatever you like.
15. Up to the player. I don't think a rule is required - what goes around comes around.
16. Having a guild "bank" is quite a good idea, although it takes someone to run it.
As to repeat quests - I tend to agree with you, but don't think it should be a hard and fast rule as it tends to unduly limit grouping opportunities. Again, PD isn't so much about accumulating uberness, so people tend not to just farm one quest over and over for loot/xp.
hope you can use 32 pt builds...
i cant create 28 pt builds anymore
13. I think we should be allowed to buy from any recognized vendor, just not the AH. Besides, since we aren't in for "uberness" I doubt any of us will be loaded with enough gold any time soon to make buying "uber" stuff from the vendors that easy.
14. Make whatever character you want, including 32 point or Drow builds.
15. I agree somewhat with the "comes around goes around" idea, but my view is the party should assign loot to the character best able to use the particular item of loot. For me, this isn't about loot. It's about the challenge of survival, role playing and a little more intense DDO experience. And, of course, friendship and fun. As far as "special" or "known" items, I think if the person pulling the item can use it, good for them! If I got something and couldn't make maximum use out of it, I would certainly give it to the party member who could. If that character dies, then that item could be the 1 heirloom item for that character.
16. I agree with guild "heirlooms." Maybe a "special" item that wasn't heirloomed by the individual who died could be heirloomed by the guild. I also agree with allowing party members to "loot" the dead characters stuff, 1 item each, if they want. I suppose that could be an individual choice, but seems like a no brainer to me since if you die and can only heirloom one item, your other items would just be destroyed, so why not offer them to fellow party members, or for a "guild heirloom."
I'll probably need as much help as I can get from my fellow party members. LOL!
Can't make fridays ; ;. sorry.
1 of my four is Funandgames (welcome to using the forums) and the other 2 of my four are :
DoubleFisted, Dwarven Fighter (stunning blow emphasis)
Koockoo, Dwarven Fighter
Qwijymart is just another vendor akthough at least a conversation can be held with him unlike NPC's so He is fine it's not like you are buying equipment from him to twink your toon.
32 pt builds and drow are fine. The build doesn't really matter anyways. It's player skill
I've played PD and Barebones. Leave the loot decisions to the player. Experience has shown that items will go to those who need it in most cases.
Guild bank is a good idea.
I always share loot with people who can use it better than me (even in PUGs), but I think the best answer is "your loot is your loot, do what you want with it". Seems most of us are nice, so things should work out well.
As for looting the corpse - I'm all for it as I delete my PD characters when they die so you can loot my corpse. But some people might like to convert their character to non-PD and leave the guild, and therefore want to keep their stuff. They may also have other reasons for not wanting to let someone loot their corpse. Whatever the reason, I feel that their loot is their loot. They can do as they see fit.
The only rule is that you can't "loot" more than one item (otherwise an unfortunate demise could = insta-twink)!
***edit
Sure, Jakeelala, DWG prides itself on welcoming everyone. As previously stated, we will be starting a new guild for this endeavor call Deathwatch Guard PD, you are welcome to join. I can't promise people will be on when you can play, but we are starting friday at 11pm EST in the Leaky Dinghy.
Auction house: I read the response earlier and I can understand the whole idea of not wanting to twink... and at low levels that makes a huge difference in play and fun. But I’m on the fence as we go up in levels, especially when we start pulling nice items (of course if I had my way, loot would have been scaled way back from the very beginning…)
Leave and return to quest: Once again, I think I understand why this rule. However, anyone who has done some of the quests in a party that never tried the quest before, know that there were some quests that clerics, wizzies, and sorcs just had to leave for more spell points or they weren’t completeable. Grant it, today most players now know these quests and can get around leaving many of them. However, I would argue, if we’re going to playing non-twinked characters who won’t be maxed out on stats, wizardry or power items, and the various efficiency items, and won’t be able to use the auction house to augment mana potions, this may be too stringent a requirement (of course I could be completely wrong).
It seems to me, what I think of when I think of PD playing I think of two things. First is the risk in the dungeon… So no power leveling or twinking and the dungeon must be level appropriate. And second, unless someone in the party can rez, death is permanent. Everything else just seems like they are rules to make the game more difficult... which then I question whether this excursion will be as fun as I hope...
That said, I'm willing to try... :)
Alpro28 and partymaker (forum names) have expressed interest. I have asked them to get us character information information.
When meeting Friday, given the level of interest and people to be present, we should just Create a Guild and invite. We can then discuss any remaining issues in Guild chat while creating approximately 3 groups to start questing.
It looks like there is a growing consensus on the guild rules.
I am leaving town today for a family emergency and won't be back until next week. Citymorg will help get this all set up tonight from the DWG side of things.
Hiya everyone
This is Partymaker. But unfortunately, I had two accounts and yesterday I just cancelled one of them and it was the one using the nickname Partymaker on the forums
I'm still interested in Permadeath as well as my buddy Alpro28. We tried it a bit on another server but the fact it wasn't on Khyber, I dunno....it didn't had the same flavor :p So that's what we were looking for!
I'm gonna play a halfling Cleric with the dragonmarks. Maxed 4 clerics since launch so I know where I'm going no worries :p
I don't know yet what my buddy want to play tho, but I don't think this is gonna be a problem anyway.
I should be able to log at 11pm EST but Alpro28 isn't gonna be able to log before 00h30am approx. (working til midnight). I'll have to read again to find out where is the meeting btw, no idea yet, didn't want to read 4 pages... :p
Also, I've no idea if we were going to form a new guild or not...?
If so, my suggestion would be "The Immortals" as a guild's name. Kinda appropriate for a permadeath guild no? :p
I just wanted to post an update. We started at 11pm tonight and went under the name "Deathwatch Guard Permadeath." DWG is offering forum space and officer organization to promote this event. We had over 20 people come and 3 full groups playing. I would call it a wild success. Thank you all for coming. I will be reposting the rules in a consolidated and updated form in the coming week and look forward to seeing you all, die, once.
Thanks to everyone who came out and joined the ranks!
It was a great time and I was (pleasantly) surprised by the turnout :D
Thank you all. I really had quite an enjoyable time last night and look forward to playing with you again.
I do have a question. Are we going to set up a regualr meeting time every week? Or perhaps several nights that are scheduled because not everyone can show up on one night?
I appologize about being leary of Butcher's path but was pleasantly surprised especially when we took out that nasty trog caster without a single death. The caliber of play last night was very high. It was actually a nice change. I guess I am too used to using Mythe to teach people how to play I forget that there are some excellent players out there.
In the meantime if anyone in guild is on and wishes to group add my alts to your friends list with the PD note. Send me a tell if I am on and I will be more than happy to swap to Mabel and go risk life and limb with you. I'm an avid soloer and love small groups so if it's just two of us that's fine.
The characters I am currently playing are Aramina, Gertti and Mythe.
Looking forward to playing again.
Right now, there is no formal schedule. If people are interested in having a set time I will arrange one, but my play time is filling up. In the meantime, I would suggest logging into your PD alt if you want to play and set up an LFM. You would be surprised how many are out there who will come if they see a group.
When I logged on tonight, I saw several players at level 3. Let me know who was first, and the 100gp reward still stands!
:) I think a few people had "pre-levelled".
In any event, Elwood was lvl 4 when I left him and showing no signs of fatigue!
With the help of many brave companions we travelled through Waterworks enabling Mabel to be the first to hit level 3. I beat you guys :P Dwarvin ladies for the win. :D And some of you guys thought we didn't exist *sheesh*
Please donate the money to one of our wizards as buying enough inscription materials at lower levels, untwinked, is not easy.
Grats to Malik who leveled a few minutes after I did.
Why is the Permadeath stance regarding guild/raid funds? Is this something to start? Intuitively, I would say that it does not mesh well with the idea, but just wanted to ask.
Elwood is now currently lvl 5 after completing Tanglefoot with 3 others and 3 maned waterworks on hard to lvl up to 5..
and only just recently got +1 fp out of WW. couple other made it to 4 as well after the 2 runs. Great time well be knocking on Tempist spine door by the end of the week. :)
saddly we had our first death too in the library trying to recover the lost tome. The traped chest is not something to take lightly on elite.
I dont think there is anything to start. Im sure everyone will come as best prepared as they can be... There is no other reason to horde gold as we have decided not to use the AH or brokers. this only leaves one use for our hard earned gold that is buying consumables.
I heard about Doublefisted's demise (he is a friend of mine). He tends to zerg in his playstyle and forgot about the trap. After I stopped laughing (so hard I was crying), he told me his 11 year old son, who is in guild with us, also was having some good-natured fun with him (even he remembered the trap). I was really afraid I might be the first one to die ...
Well, he has re-rolled and vowed a new way with Gotem.
And Purgatory, don't level too fast or you might be waiting for the rest of us to catch up.
Talish - I am all for setting a regular schedule Thursdays 10:15?? Let me know. I have been pleasantly surprised by the number on when I have logged in.
Deathwatch Guard hosts a roleplaying event on Thursday at 11pm EST, so that is a conflict for me. If others can make it, I encourage them to come together. I will be checking in regularly during my play time to see if anyone is on. You may catch me mid-week for some good gaming.
Thank you everyone for Friday's run. Sorry I was late arriving, but I certainly had fun while I was on!
Thursdays might work for me sometimes, but I can make Friday evenings more consistently. But, it sounds like there will be guildies on occassionally throughout the week anyway. But, for me Fridays work better (usually) than any other night. If I can find some time, I'd love to see some of you before then.
How about a moment of silence for Doublefisted? Rest in peace my friend.
I think Elwood gets the prize for being the first character to make it back to lvl 3 (reincarnated after a run in with boulder in the Depths series).
Malek is now level 4, almost halfway to level 5 :D
We ran STK lvl 3-4 tonight and everyone made it out alive!
Khalam pulled an awesome shiny ring too, the Ring of Feathers! Grats :p
Also played with the reincarnation of Elwood, who made it back at lvl 4 pretty fast! :)
Cya later everyone
****, I'm not keeping up the Joneses
Ambunaght meet his demise in butchers pass last night. his replacement is Nothhan Silverleaf follower of the Undying Court.
Perhaps we should start a Wall of Remembrance with the name of those who paved the way ...
:)
Through Deathwatch Guard, I have start a forum for our Permadeath guild. It is open to the public and you do not need to belong to DWG or register. The forum site is:
http://www.guildportal.com/Guild.asp...&TabID=1740238
Under the general DWG website of:
http://dwg.guildportal.com
I have also started a Wall of Rememberance there for our fallen heroes.
Thanks Citymorg!
I plan on being on tonight and I look forward to others too ... Talish?
RIP Citymorg and Sallust.
WW part 2, hard, in the prison:
Citymorg: "Shall we jump down or run around?"
Sallust: "I always like to jump."
Sorry for not making it as I did sooooo want to tempt fate, unfortunately until I'm all set for the holidays playing DDO regularily is not possible. I've got young ones living at home still with my youngest still strongly believing in Santa Claus (ahh remember being a kid?) So it's my job to make sure he and my grand kids have an absolutely fantastic day. I've been building gingerbread houses with the kids, making goodies, getting the house ready... you know all the stuff your own mom managed to make magically happen. I'm hoping to get it all wrapped up this week. I've plans to play through the holiday as a treat to myself. (when the kids are busy of course)
Along those lines I hope everyone has a very good Holiday Season. :)
