    Default NNoob advice

I am new, like really new at this. I would like to play a crossbow ranged dps from the inquisitive tree, dual wield crossbows. I tried a few basic builds and it was fun. But I am realizing that I can't get conjure bolts unless I am a spell caster of some kind, so that means I will have to multi-class? If this is NOT the case, then what is the get around so that I can get conjure bolts early on, it that is even possible. I liked the idea of a ranged rogue using the inquisitive tree, but I don't how this is workable, or not workable as I would like the previously touted ability "conjure bolts." Any help would be great. I don't know how to multiclass btw, like I said, I'm pretty new.

    Thank you in advance,

    David

Uh...Conjure Bolts is a T1 enhancement right there in the Inquisitive tree

    https://ddowiki.com/page/Inquisitive_enhancements

Though as a brand new player be aware you have to pay for Inquisitive...you can unlock it free in-game, but the quests for that are level 15

Also, re: multiclassing...2 levels of Rogue, 6 of Ranger, then Rogue the rest of the way, that'll work fine and give you access to Sniper Shot in the Deepwoods Stalker tree for Ranger, which is very good for any Inqui, but especially for Rogue-heavy ones that have lots of Sneak Attack die

Thank you but the problem I was running into on my rogue, after I took the conjure bolts enhancement was that it kept saying action failed, not enough spell points? So Im confused. the WIKI says there is no requirement, but it costs spell points to activate. So how can I activate it as a rogue when I don't have any spell points?

you can wear items that you extra spell points (wizardry).
you can also use scrolls of Conjure Bolts if your UMD is high enough

You can wear an item or augment in an item that gives you spellpoints (for instance something with stats like 'power', 'wizardry' or 'magi'). Probably a bunch on the auction house. If you don't have a lot of spellpoints you can conjure bolts in public zone where spellpoints keep regenerating before you start a quest.

For multiclass you just go to a trainer when you want to level up. For instance when you're level 6 Rogue an you have enough xp to level up. You can go to for instance a Ranger trainer to get 1 Ranger level added to the 6 Rogue. You'd multiclass Rogue and Ranger this way. If you're a new player you probably don't have Artificer class unlocked. So I'd recommend 6 levels of Ranger (free Precise Shot and Rapid Shot Feats and Sniper Shot enhancement in DWS tree) and 14 levels of Rogue (a lot of sneak attack damage, improved evasion). Starting level 1 Rogue get's you the most skillpoints and all the skills for traps and open locks. You can probably find an item that gives spellpoints somewhere in basic loot. But if unlucky you can always try the platinum auction house.

Other options until you get your Conjure Bolts:

Quivers full of normal/MW/+1 bolts. Stock up between quests.
Wand of Flame Arrow gives option for bolts.
CC Craft bolts. (fill quivers) Very low skill needed.

    another option

it works well to add 2 artificer levels to your inquisitive build

conjure bolt artificer spell (arti levels will give you the spell points needed for the spell of course), but more important also free rapid reload feat and runarm use, and trapping if your build has no rogue levels.
    storage solution suggestion: Collection

Inquis Conjure bolts requires 30/20/10 spell points per use (depending on number of ranks in the skill).
    possible options:
    - Wear a Wizardry/Power/Magi/Archmagi item (or an augment). Easiest ways to get one: look at platinum AH. Or run "A Lesson in Deception" quest on normal and pick Sage's Sash as end reward.
    - Play a class that has spell points innately (Any except rogue, fighter, monk, barbarian. Some classes (paladin, ranger) start to get SP only at level 4).
    - Take Magical Training feat. It gives you 80 spell points and Echoes of Power (if you have below 12 spell points, they regenerate until you have 12. so with rank 3 Conjure Bolts you never run out).
    - At level 20, spend some points in Epic Destiny that is suitable for your build but also has Spell Points, such as Shadowdancer.

yeah this. u should take 2 artificer on most inquisitive build anyway the runarm is too good to pass on. 10rog/6ranger/2arti is a good split. u get Crippling Strike from lvl 10 rog feat, Sniper Shot from Deepwood Stalker ranger tree, and runarm, u also get some free feats. since u using inquisitive t5 and capstone there is really no need for pure rog

yeah nice setup for a rogue inqui.

btw we are all failing to mention, since this is a new player advice thread, that you need some stat to damage. if you are building a dps always ask your self what stat to hit\damage and how i get my expanded critical threat\multiplier. for the crit parts you're covered, inquisitive get em, for the stat to hit\damage, crossbows have by default dex to hit and NO stat to damage. usually for inqui you get it with universal tree harper, int to hit\damage. or if you play divine class, favored weapon.

another advantage of going arti splash at beginning, the first levels you go with repeater xbow, devastating at low levels, while spending your ap to set up the rest, like if harper int to hit\damage.

don't forget rogue mechanic core 3 gives INT to damage. Completely F2P, no artificer or harper needed.
