Was fighting a mind flayer in Missing? Idk, cant' remember.

Favored soul, or maybe a cleric, idk. Details escape me. He casts sunburst I think. Its the one that makes the big globe thing, like celestia does sometimes. While im fighting the flayer. Or did the flayer cast it? IDK. Boom over 300 hp gone. I lived.

But hardcore being hardcore, you tend to run in the same group of people. As I leveled, this player was in my group several more times. And I could've swore that darn sunburts kept going off directly on top of me over and over and over... quest after quest after quest...

Never took damage after that one time though.

Maybe you got hit by a mindflayer brain blast and couldn't see because sunburst blocked your vision. Check the combat log next time and see if you can figure out what's going on.

Afaik the only messed up stuff is prismatic spray. Saw a fake death notice that a lv 30 had died but it was just someone else's prismatic spray glitching it up.
