Yeah... Most people playing this game don't care about hair dye I would bet. Because most people are in that age group that don't care about cosmetics. But if they do care about cosmetics, they are in that age group that don't like having to re-buy the same product. Which is what happens when you TR, as your hair dye wont carry over.

Further more, even if you find someone who uses hair dye, they are most likely a younger player, with less patience. So, they won't wait to buy it from another player, when they could more easily buy it from the DDO store.

So, hair dye is really one of those wild card market items, where it just doesn't hold any real value with anyone.

I just ask in guildchat. Couple of guildies collect hair dye.

I will say, for my Deep Gnome life I deeply appreciated it. DG hair color options suck IMO, and I was quite happy to snag some from the AH and color it.

Nupe - this isn't Lotro, so it isn't "dye", just hair dye.

The best use is changing some iconic's hair that doesn't have a wide range of color to start from (Shadarkai, looking at you!).

I just wish there was some place that showed what all the diff colors were - Fawn vs. Amber, Blonde vs. Honey, Burgundy vs. Sienna, Charcoal vs. Slate vs. Steel - how is anyone supposed to know which trigger to pull to get the color they want? A "changing room", where you could see what the final effect would look like, would be a great thing. (Lotro has that - also a "barber" that lets you change your hairstyle. Even if it had a small cost in DP, I think it'd be a great addition for some.) <shrugs>

I'm an older player (no, you don't get to know my age) that uses a very specific hair dye color on my characters.

So, hair dye is really one of those wild card market items, where it just doesn't hold any real value with anyone.
Honestly, the Hair Dye that has any market value is the one I purchase. How do I know? It's the only one that sells for 50k on my server Everything else "may" sell for 5k or less.

I do know of one player who purchases the Green Hair Dye but that is the only person I know who goes with that color. It's a matter of preference I guess. It's one of the last remaining things I look for on the AH to purchase (well my specific color).

Would be cool if we can use the hair dye on the cannith cruncher, for gear or cosmetics, imagine shocking pink armor!

Broccoli juice tastes a lot better with some hair dye mixed in. You see some strange stuff too.

    Thanks.

I wish there was some way of seeing what races had which color options at start. A one page look at which hair colors which race has and doesn't have, all on one page. Just to make it easier to know which hair dye is special, i.e., which dye should I use that isn't an available starting choice for this race.

I guess I could go through each race/iconic and take screenshots of the color pallette of each one and stick them in one big mspaint...

Sounds like a perfect project to do on DDOWiki.com (Now if I only wanted to learn how to update the Wiki).

If anyone wants to prepare the one big palette picture, I will gladly help with the wiki stuff. Just send me a PM.

Congratulations! You've single-handedly boosted demand for your specific dye on your server :P

Obviously not everyone will fit what I have stated. As not everyones the same. Although if you collect data with set age groups, I bet that I will be mostly correct. As majorities are a thing.

(50k platinum isn't really a noticeable amount... lets be real, it takes many many... MANY quests to get 1 hair dye, where as 1 epic quest can give 50k plat.)

I would love it if Hair Dye could be used on 4e-Rat-Demon horns instead of on Hair (multi-selector, so horns, hair or horns & hair could be chosen). That way, if I played a 4e-Rat-Demon in an upcoming life, I could pretend I was actually a Tiefling wearing an interestingly shaped hat!

Too much work, imho, because of too many nuances ...
"You are a Tiefling. And a Cleric, with the Domain of the Sun. Doesn't that contradict each other ?" "No, all my friends are playing evil. I found that so boring that I decided to be on the good side. And, besides, Sun and Fire, where is the difference, really ?"

Just so you are aware, some hair dyes appear to be slightly different colors on the new races versus the old races. On most of the old races for instance Slate appears to be a gray-violet but on most of the newer races - Asimaar, Tiefling, Wood Elf, it looks more gray than anything else. Skyblue appears cerulean on most and more teal (like it has a green-blue tint) on some races. There may be other slight variations but these are the first to come to mind from my experiences. It would be nice if the STORE hair dyes had a trial-view so people could be sure its the color they want.

Come to think of it once you find a helmet at level 1-3 you'll never see your hair again... in most cases...

Why not ? You can click on the head area of the paper doll and thus disable the helmet's visibility, just like with cosmetic items. I do so all of the time because of that bunny hat.

I do know people who set googles or something like that, hair shows...

Makes me wonder what happens if you use hair dye on a bladeforge

Honestly I don't think it's an age thing but more of an aesthetics thing. As I have gotten older I know what I like and dislike so that is why I only "value" one color. Younger people are more likely to experiment until they fine the color (or colors) they like. Probably the one drawback of getting older is you have already "experimented with what you like and dislike" The pro's and con's of getting older.

Na, I'm just "upset" (for lack of a better word) that everyone on my server likes the same color Or maybe I'm "upset" I don't like Green Dye in DDO. I do love the Green Mabar Armor though
