    Default New character help

Well, my sorcerer(whom I've been asking questions about) has been killed off, and it's time to roll a new guy. I want to continue playing as a spellcaster, but I need to be more powerful. Basically, I'm the only member of our party who hasn't gone WAY outside the core books and started power-gaming, so right now the melees are dramatically out-damaging the sorcerer(me).

So; I, too, would like to step outside the core books and come back with something ridiculous and better than a core 3.5e sorcerer.

    Any suggestions?

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you're being out-DPSed while playing a sorc, you're either really low-lvl, your Spellpower gear stinks, or you're doing it wrong. A first-life Fire+(Air or Earth) Savant with some Cannith caster gear is a DPS engine for not a lot of effort.

That said, what did you have in mind?

Uhh... dude, unless I'm really confused, this is the pen and paper forum... we don't have TRs, cannith crafting, or "spellpower" as far as I know. I have no idea about savants but I haven't seen them in the rulebooks(again, PnP, not DDO).

Anyway, like i said, everyone else has left the core rulebooks far behind, there have to be more powerful caster classes out there.

since u look to be kinda flexible, u could use some prestige class, google'd d&d prestige classes and 1st link was that

    http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/3.5e_Prestige_Classes

(doesn't mean anything, it's just an example to show that u don't need to download the books)

most of em add 1 caster lvl to the class u belong when raising a prestige lvl, so u shouldn't lose spells at all, simply play with the recquirements, make em apply all or not, as always, flexibility

also, keep an eye on the performance of the toon, most special stuff in pnp doesn't come from awesome skills and big numbers, comes from how u use em, and if somebody is roflstomping the dungeons... well, gm has to kill it to keep the team balanced, so all have fun playing, less special stuff comes from combat ^_^uu

as example the dragoon blood looks achievable with lvl 6 sorc
psykopeta is finally baconpletionist because there isn't anything to delay it more - thelanis, where the gimps claim to be pros and noobs claim to be pros, no newbies allowed(unless they claim to be pros), we have enough drama w/o them. PS: I post only in the latest thread shown in main page, in the weird case u want something from me, feel free to send pm

Oops! You're right, my bad. I use the "Today's Posts" function to skim new posts; didn't even notice which subforum I was in. Carry on, then...

    I would start here: http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=399.0
There you can find links to multiple sorcerer optimization handbooks.

Sorcerers, when well played, are already amongst the most powerful classes in the game. First thing you need to do is realize that damage is for chumps. Let the fighter do the damage while you cast sleep to make the enemies helpless or glitterdust to blind them or haste to double his damage output or, at high levels, use spells like dismissal and finger of death to skip dealing damage entirely.
