    Default Client Crashes and delays

This has been happening for a while.

    1) I I log into the client
    2) The character selection screen comes up I choose a character
    3) I then wait for what seems like 3-4 minutes for the character to load into the world
    4) Once it loads, the connectivity is automatically red and disconnects me after 1-2 minutes of my character floating in midair and not being able to move
    5) I then immediately repeat the process, this time though after I log in and load a character, no problems and it only takes about 1-2 minutes total.

I've redownoaded and installed the client, tried to run the launcher and client in XP mode, still nothing seems to solve the problem. Any suggestions?

Wait for Turbine to fix it. As you said, it's been happening a while. I THOUGHT 17.1 fixed it, but that evening it came back.

Nope, had that problem for ages, went away with update 17, though. Beats me whats causing it, but it seems that its something on both ends.

There was another thread about this problem a few days ago, so clearly it affects a lot of people. In my experience it is related to disk performance: the first time you launch DDO it takes ages to load all the resources off disk (especially if Windows is also thrashing the disk for its own purposes), after which the connection has timed out. When you launch the second time, the data is all in the cache, so the client loads quickly and connects without problem.

Wrong. The very problem is that the client DOES NOT connect without problem after the crash.Re-read the OP.He is saying that after the crash he loads the game and logs into the broken connection which crashes the toon again,no matter how many times he tries.

    Direct quote from the OP:

That is consistent with my experience as I described. I'm not sure where you got "he loads the game and logs into the broken connection which crashes the toon again,no matter how many times he tries" from, unless there was some retrospective editing of posts which I didn't notice.
