Default My own stand against lag as a customer

Since the Cove and other such events debuted I've quietly protested by simply not participating.
There is a big problem with live events and excessive lag. In my opinion it's not in my best interest nor in the interest of the community as whole to support a circumstance that causes so much grief.
Failed raids, failed quests, lag deaths, and hours of wasting peoples time just so the kids can play with cutesy kobolds and get easy to acquire "epic stuff".
Ruining one groups gaming experience so another group can "enjoy' themselves is simply not fair.
So until Turbine finds a way, or gets the inspiration to try to find a way to incorporate live events without everyone else being subject to game breaking lag, I will continue to protest by not participating. And no amount of shiny stuff is going to lure me into causing my fellow players unnecessary grief.

i2049/i2050/i2051 are all lag fests. in order to do a raid you have to keep re entering till you find a good instance and then hope for the best.
A circumstance like that is ridiculous at face level and unacceptable as a customer.

You've already caused myself and others grief with this pretentious whine of a post that presupposes that anyone who plays and enjoys Crystal Cove is a "kid playing with cutesy kobolds".

I'd like you to stop complaining and ruining my gaming experience. I do enjoy myself playing cove/mabar. I'm sorry you don't, but you obviously are not in the majority. And don't try going for forum majority, because all the people who like cove are PLAYING it(i would if i weren't stuck at work)

Ah see, that is what you are doing wrong. There is no Lag in the cove itself, its in the rest of the game.

So, you are gonna protest by not participating in an event which you can fully access for absolutely no price, and instead you are going to just run the rest of the game, where you are more likely to spend money?

    Good luck.

Too many times I see the assumption that lag that happens when an event is going on, is automagically the fault of the event. When the event stops and the lag doesnt, what gets blamed then?

The other major issue I see is that the two times they tried to "address" the lag turned out to be two of the worst decisions regarding the game ever made. One resulted in a dungeon alert mechanic, along with showing they will not stop creating dungeons that spawn more mobs than the thresholds for the alerts are set to in one encounter. The other resulted in the U5 physics changes and melee nerfs. Used to be able to dodge mobs spells if timed right, nowdays tt doesnt matter if you were able to put two corners between you and the mob between the time it began its animation and the time the spell went off. Spell still lands.

The event continues to get the blame, as clearly running it in the first place broke something and the devs are just too lazy/too dishonest to fix/own up to it. No, really, that's been my observation in the past.

I get lag when events are happening. I don't (generally) when there are no events. Coincidence?

Whether the event itself causes it, or whether it attracts more people at one time (people who don't play as often but will log on specifically for events) I don't know.

So because they broke something in the past when trying to fix something else, are you saying they should not try and fix things that are broken?

    o.O

The number of Lag related raid failures does not seem to go up during events.

Folks just have something to blame, so they do.

Completed 2 FoT last night. One in Instance 2049i and one is 2051i.

I'm not saying lag doesnt exists. I'm just saying its not all related to events.

Probably still the same "crafting instances being shared with quest instances" issue - since there is actual data that supports this.

What Im doing is pointing out is that when they tried to "fix" lag, the "fix" was worse than the lag. Something about being careful what we wish for comes to mind. There was ALOT of complaining about lag in that era, right up to and until they came out and stated that too many physics checks on TWF was a major contributor to the issue, so the nerf bat is going to have to be swung. The sheer level of backpedaling was hilarious.

And of course you have statistics that majority enjoying events?

Lag increases when the Cove and Mabar events are on.

Lag doesn't go away when events go away, but it does decrease.

Since that phenomenon repeats itself every time the Cove and Mabar open, it seems pretty obvious that the two are related.

Edit: I do want to point out that I agree 100% with the second half of your post.

And before the cove ever existed the shroud got the blame, and before the shroud ever existed....there was still lag.

    Now?

Ive talked about how the presumed fixes for lag arent really fixes for as long as they have been in place. The sheer number of quests that have a single encounter that activated the DA threshold has increased quite a bit. If that many active mobs is a major contributor of lag, why create, and continue to create, encounters that go straight to yellow DA?
