    Default Old timer post

    Remember when:

-Everyone ran around with Curse cause no one could afford curse pots and it was permanent after leaving a quest.
    -Bank K wasn't open
-You could die in the hole in House K
    -Invaders was run 100 times
-Having a +5 Adamentine Full plate drop was like winning the lottery
    -Level 10 cap

    Add yours. I'm feeling nostalgic.

    And.....

When you died you lost a load of XP......
You could walk round the market and see blind people staggering around trying to find someone to remove it......

The teleporters between the houses were random and you never knew which house you would wind up in?

Hehe took me a while to figure out where the hell I was or how to get places no thanks to that annoyance.

When you didn't have auto access to the rest of the harbor

When there was no Korthos but 4-5 houses on the shore that allowed you to hone your skills

Goodblade gave you level 1 quests

    Remember when....

    ...halflings didn't wear shoes?

...wizards could make their own scrolls and potions starting at level 1?

    ...rangers had animal companions?

...a high-level wizard was something to be feared, instead of a buffbot?

    ...rogues were called thieves?

...there were waaaay more spells for wizards and clerics?

...to gain the abilities to do the things a Pale Master can do now, a wizard would pretty much have to be evil?

...there weren't robots and aircraft in D&D games?

    ...we used THAC0?

    ...people roleplayed their character's personas?

...they were characters and not "toons"?
All that is wrong with DDO, life, taxes, poltics, religion, music, fast food, education, the criminal justice system, the weather, society, the universe, and previously-discontinued-but-now-on-their-way-back snack cakes, is all the fault of Wizards of the Coast. I know this because Fred told me so, and Mind Flayers are smart.

    - when +5 mithral full plates were the best ones
    - when wop was still functioning and so finesse and repeater builds were
    - when vorpals were useful
    - when a +1 frost longsword was just class
    - when spell penetration was not implemented
    - when content was high quality
    - when raids were amazing and devs needed months of development to actually make them functioning properly
    - when you needed will saves and barbarians were just deadmeat
    - when true reincarnation was not implemented, not transforming this game into a hardcore grinders fest
    - when you was logging for having fun but not grinding to death
    - when you could create and play non conventional builds
    - when ddo was fun

    • The Titan was unbeaten, until the night before the patch.
    • The Low Road.
    • Brutes Barracks was the loot run.
    • Vorpal worked on any crit - not just 20s.
    • Kobold Island was just a boat ride away.
    • Later on, Prison of the Planes was the loot run.
    • Harbormaster Zin had locked down the Harbor due to kobolds.
    • There were pawn shops in House P and J.

    1. no two weapon slots of any kind. If you wanted a second weapon or shield, you had to dig it out of your backpack.
    2. neither potions nor scrolls had icons.
    3. beholders could kill you anywhere in the dungeon or back in the tavern.
    4. Threnal south 3 was the loot run ... and the fleshrender chest in Korromar.

I ran across a vorpal scimitar collecting dust on a old storage toon the other day. It did make me pause. Nothing since has been that overpowered, and I had forgotten I had the thing.
    Almost nearly always: Ghallanda
Most likely: Heisenberg, Landau, Boltzmann, Sommerfeld, Rutherford, Bohr, Tezla, and Dirac.
But also: Vigner, Minkowski, Schrodinger, Fermi, Hartree, Sternn, Gerlach, and others.

rangers were gimp . . . really gimp. made me sad because i always liked rangers in pnp.

drow were uber. people in harbor would say, "hey that guys playin' a drow: listen to them".

seeing a level 12 character and thinking, "wow, thats a high level". ( i came in just before
the level cap was raised to 14)

plus many of the above memories.
The Office of the Exchequer. 1750 on all live servers via Pure pugging. Thank you very much to all who helped carry a gimp . (wayfinder was a soloist build)

When Retribution caused awe (Holy, True Law, Pure Good)

STK Fire room was death without a competent rogue

Magic Missile was the spell of choice for STK and Stormcleave

    Few good ones already mentioned...

    - When the Trinket from House P Vamp quest made you immune to being Held.

    - When to beat that Vamp in House P you better bring an arcane or two.

    - When to run Velah you had to run Von 1-4 (in order) to access Von5...everytime.

    - There was no lock item in inventory...you sold with caution!

    - Co6 last part was teh loot run.

    - There were no static rewards for chains like Deleras, Tangleroot.

    - Spending hours lost in the desert.
    Git off mah lawn!

If, If's and But's was Candies and Nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas.

you mean when we systematically had the choice between all static rewards at the end of those chain quests i guess, not the current grind

    Nah. Even further back.

First there were no static rewards, only random loot.

Then came static rewards, full list each time.

Finally we have static rewards, random list of static drops and random loot.

Man, now I do feel like an old-timer.

    • When the radius for Grease was huge - and you could make a slip-n-slide from the ogre caves to the beach on Co6.
