Default Just a thought on daggers !

So i was watching a guildie beat down the training dummy on his healer for the hec of it . When i actually took the time to look at the ornamental dagger he had in his hand . First thought was it is pretty kool looking compared to most weopons in game . And why can't most weopons have a kool skin . Then i thought what was the reason for daggers in the game . I really don't see alot of viable options for them . Why do they exist in game ?

They exist for the special effects. e.g. my rogue uses a seeker dagger of puncturing (+10 to confirm crits, +10 crit dmg before multipliers and 1d6 con dmg on crits), and there are many daggers that improve spellcasting abilities in one way or another.

For a rogue, the base wp dmg doesn't really matter - it's not important if he deals 1d4+xd6 sneak attack or 1d8+xd6 - and many spellcasters don't go into melee combat at all if they can avoid it.

Wait a minute...what's this doing in the Official Turbine Discussions? As it says in the title,

"This forum contains the official discussion threads started by the DDO team. You can reply to, but not post new, threads."

Aha! I solved the mystery of why! Now to find out just how deep the rabbit hole goes here...

Oh, and id just like to thank you for all your work in Update 9! I'm hoping you'll be able to release these updates without delay and with maximum satisfaction!

Actually my rogue assassin uses rapier and dagger quite effectively. It also saves me the feats that would normally go to dual wielding longswords.

Despite their low base damage, daggers are actually by far the best one-handed simple weapons. They're the only simple weapon with a 19-20x2 crit profile -- the others are all 20x2.

On the other hand, there aren't that many situations in which a character without any martial weapon proficiencies wants to be meleeing and can't cast Master's Touch . . .

Daggers are in DDO for the same reason Brigadine, Scale, Hide, Copper, Silver, Gold is, to complete the feel of PnP.
