    Default Khopesh Question

I was told recently that Khopeshes count as a medium weapon and thus if you use them in each hand you only need two-weapon fighting and not oversized. I would appreciate someone affirming or denying this claim please. And thank you.

You will still suffer a "to hit" penalty without OTWF.

Epic is about the only place that penalty would matter and it would also have to be on a class that doesn't have a full BAB. My bard has trouble hitting even with OTWF feat but my bard has to rely on clickies that gives me a full BAB.

If you are on a fighter though, you can probably ignore that penalty and still be fine in epic. Not totally sure on this though but that is my understanding.

OTWF only removes the "to hit" penalty for using a medium weapon in both hands, if you had always had a light weapon in your off hand, OTWF would be completely useless. You won't suffer any penalty for using a light weapon in your off hand as long as you have the TWF feat. If you are using a medium weapon in both hands, without OTWF, you suffer a -4 penalty to hit...I think it is -4 but it could be a bit larger.

TWF feat removes the larger penalty for using two weapons. Without TWF and you use two weapons, you suffer a -4 in the main hand and a -6 in the off hand...I think that is the numbers but it has been a while and since I grab all the TWF feats for a character going TWF, I didn't really care about the penalty, I just understood that there will be and if I want that fighting style, I had to grab bonuses to get my "to hit" up. With the TWF feat, it reduces the penalty to -2 "to hit" in both hands as long as you have a light weapon in the off hand. I think you still have a small penalty but with TWF it reduces the penalty. Last time I read the TWF description, it said it reduced the penalty, not removed.

Improved TWF, and Greater TWF gives additional attacks when fighting TWF. They don't remove any penalty as far as I know. Again, last time I read the ITWF and GTWF descriptions, it didn't say anything about removing any penalty.

Light weapons are the ones you're thinking of, that cause no penalties without OTWF. Medium weapons are your basic 1-handed weapons; Large weapons are 2-handed. Thankfully we're not using PnP rules where your Size matters regarding what weapons you consider small/large. So we got halflings running around with the Greatclub of the Scrag no problem.

Khopesh is NOT light. BTW neither is Rapier (common misconception).

I know this is what you meant, and you just forgot a word, but just to be clear: Khopesh is not light.

Thanks, that's what I'd always assumed, glad to have it verified
