Default Optimal Weapon Choice For a Human SS

im working on leveling up my first bard, a human pure bard SS. im not taking any melee feats, im focusing on CC and healing. my starting build stats were 14str/8dex/16con/8int/8wis/18cha. im currently at level 8 and am putting all leveling build points into CHA.

currently ive been running with longswords/maces + a shield, mostly for the ease of weapon availability and the shield makes for a nice place to slot my fortification item. but once i get my minos, i dont see much point in continuing to run with a shield.

what would be my optimal weapon choice with this sort of a build that would help to maximize my meager melee DPS contributions? my previous toons are a caster and a monk so im not very familiar with armed melee fighting. looking through the bard forum, i didnt find anything that directly addressed this, so any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

A support weapon: Paralyzing, cursespewing, destruction, etc. Divine power scrolls can help, but without IC, PA, etc your DPS is gonna be fairly pathetic as a spellsinger.

Better off dropping mass suggestion, then hasting them.

    Edit:

Keep the songs up, keep the casters on crack, and crowd control your way to victory. Good CC from a SS trivializes virtually everything. I ran virtually every quest on elite as I leveled my bard with 2 buddies Wiz/ftr & AA and we walked through everything.

im working on obtaining some paralyzing bows and whatnot and will be focusing on CC/buffing/healing mostly. but when it comes time for me to pick up a weapon and beat on something what should i go for? would master's touch + a great axe be viable? that was my first inclination.

i realize my dps is going to be teh suck, but what would allow me to increase my dps as much as possible with this build.

If you have the hp going toe-to-toe with the melee then yes a greataxe with some special effect would suffice, if not then a ranged weapon will do

I'm running the exact same build right now. He's almost to level 6. I started out using a greataxe, and that's probably the most optimal for DPS. Lately though I've just been using a Q-staff, just because I like it and don't need to cast master's touch all the time.

I think once you start getting up to a level where you have access to cursespewers and paralizers and such, those are were you need to go to make sure your melee is actually doing something of benefit.

im lvl'n a bard lvl 12 atm, what i did is got a +4 icy burst great axe of pure good.

i cast hold monster=auto crit time.
    3x crit with 2-20 burst.
things go down pretty fast if the hold sticks, works well in giant hold with high fort low will mobs.

    3 words.

    The-Mad-Lute.

Because it's class required Bard that clearly means it's the ultimate Bard weapon! Why are we even haveing this conversation!?

Ok, but seriously. On my Bard SS I use a Greenblade and Superior Potency 6 Sickle.

The Greenblade may not be readily available to everyone let alone a Bard, but a Superior Potency 6 weapon of anykind can usually be found on the AH for fairly cheap (except Kama's) or they will also drop in the shroud often.

no epic sword of shadows? (hey, just because every THF fighter and barb on the server are going to hate you, doesn't mean it isn't good. in fact, i would argue it's better for you than for them... you can use the to-hit more than they can
