Death Inventory Change?

So, I died the other day and decided to check my inventory for a rez cake, etc., but the game wouldn't let me. It used to, so I have a few questions.

1. Is this a WAI change or a bug?
2. If it's WAI, why?
3. Can/Do I have to put things on hotbars if I want to use them when dead?

I don't understand this change. If you can use hotbar'ed items when dead, then why not directly from your inventory as before? If you can't, how are you supposed to use cakes, etc.? I already have too many hotbars, and would prefer not to add to them.

Were you in a raid? You can't use cakes in raid. Other than that I ate one this weekend without a problem.

Edit: Read your post again, it wouldn't even let you open your inventory? Naw, that's definately a bug.

Nope, not in a raid.

IIRC, I used the "i" key to open inventory, but I couldn't change tabs or select items.
