    Default Monk Builds

I want to build a monk but to be honest I have no idea what path I should go for or what fighting style.(Unarmed oder twf)
Can u guys link me an high dps build and a support or tank build?
I mean has u5 changed the monk much I am not sure about that I had a light path monk before but I didn't do much dmg or was much of a support either.
I played with a monk yesterday and he rezzed me what kind of path is that?

Its an ability called Rise of the Phoenix, it is a light side ability, and whiile very cool, its a very expensive enhancment chain to get. If you want to go DPS/Tanking this is not really a viable option, but it is one.

If you want sheer DPS you need to go Dark with the Touch of Death.
You will want access to 32 point builds.
Halflings, War Forged and Humans are the best races to play a monk.
Light side monks still have more survivability usually than dark side monks.
Void Line is expensive but a very nice addition to monk. It is a neutral based ability, better for light side monks to take it than dark.

There are many paths in builds you can go...

Light monks get the Rez, but it requires 4 useless enhancements to get, is high ki cost, and a poor revive, so most don't take it.

Light Monks have not changed much in U5 at all. If you were using windstance, it's now 10% double strike sinstead of insight. People consider Fire stance a more viable option now. You can now choose a pre, that requires useless feats, and doesn't give any benifit, and is so bad it's getting a U7 rewrite,

Dark monks got ToD working in double/offhand strikes (potential 1500 damage per use), and Ninja Spy (1d6 sneak+2d6 sneak at II, 15% stacking incoprability + invis ability, ki regen when in sneak, faster sneak, water walk ability at II). So they're a lot more common right now.

DPS for Dark monks is currently top of the game level.

For a first monk I say go with a dex/wis light path monk.
A str based dark path DPS monk is all fine and dandy when you know what you are doing but all that DPS goes away when your dead.

that and if you only have a 28 point build it is possible to get a "passable" dex/wis stunner build.

    something like
    str 13
    dex 18
    con 12
    int 8
wis 14 (all level up points here)
    chr 8

feats you want two weapon fighting and ITWF and GTWF
at level 2 be sure to get weapon finesse
    Healing dragon marks
    Toughness (or 3)
power attack (this can wait till later)
    stunning fist
    improved critical:bludgeon

skills, be sure to max concentration at every level. nothing else required but jump and balance are nice. Also be sure to get at least 1 point in to tumble so you can tumble through water that slows you down.

For APs I say avoid the raise dead line it is just too darn expensive. get your monk wis and you halfling dex , monkey for your animal path, halfling guile is highly recomended.
    -------------

Sure a Strength dark path DPS build will do more damage it is also a ton less survivable as are almost every other builds that will out damage you.
For a new monk it is easier to learn from your mistakes if you live through them.
Move along , Nothing to see here
