Default Higher DPS? Rgr or Barb

just wondering which would have the better dps. currently i have a 34 point wf 12Ftr/6Rgr/2Rog. I enjoy him alot. has good dps, good evasion and good umd. my question is im debating on tr to 36 point build and wondering if dps would be better with 12 Ftr/6Barb/2Rog. lose tempest 1 attack speed, rams might and favored enemy. but gain rage (+6 Str and Con after enhancements) and frenzy. gain more hp. which would be better dps over all.

    Barb wins.

    Incorrect.

While TWF the build containing Barb will have lower DPS due to the loss of attack speed from tempest I.

If the Barb build is THF then it can wield the epic sos and take a massive lead. A THF 12F/6B/2R is already on the forums called The Archon. As the past life is TWF i assume it won't be THF this time around.

correct this will be twf build using kopeshes. will the loss of 10% attack speed offset even when you are in frenzy mode?

Download the DPS calculator and put it in. There's already a Monster build there (12/6/2 F/Rn/M). Switch out Kensai 1 for FB 1. You can play around with fight duration, the default in the spreadsheet is 5 minutes.

You will need the OpenOffice spreadsheet moldule to use the DPS calculator.

just so you know since you mentioned it...

while raging, you do not get to UMD.

OK I checked in the DPS calculator.

    DPS

With ranger levels against Favored Enemy: 489
With ranger levels not against Favored Enemy: 453

With barb and rogue levels, raging, Frenzy, sneak attacks 100% : 460
With barb and rogue levels, Frenzy, sneak attacks 100%: 446

So it seems Consumer above is correct. The build with ranger levels has the highest DPS. Though when the opponents is not the ranger FE, and with both Frenzy and Rage running, the barb has slightly higher DPS.

Depends on the situation, gear involved, and target involved.

A crappy barbarian is going to get outdpsd by a good ranger and vice versa.

Well you have to compare with the same equipment. There's nothing significant that one melee class/build can carry that another can not.

sorry i havent replied sooner than this but im curious if in the dps calculator you showed did you have the ranger include the sneak attack? the only difference in class would be between barb and ranger. ftr and rog would be the same. btw thanks for running the calculater. i tried to load it and couldnt make it work.

thank you for the replies especially razcar for the dps calc. now my question is is it worth it now with the nerf possibly coming out and changing the equation?

Yes, I did, 100% Sneak Attacks even.

My pleasure. And of course, please take it with a grain of salt - it is reverse-engineered, and only the devs know exactly what's what.

As for this question: Right now, we do not know. In constant movement, the DPS future is
We'll have to see what is decided about this in the end, the exact numbers. But going from +10% attack speed on all attacks, to +10 % on the off-hand only (which itself gets nerfed 20%!) is a nerf even Sony Online would be proud of.

ya, I wouldn't commit to twf again until they make a final decision on how much they are going to screw twf. From what I read, thf will be better unless you are tempestIII, then it will be close to even. I really hope they don't do what they are proposing.
If you're having fun, then you're doing it right.
