    Default Decent Duo -HELP-

My wife and I want to play as a party. We're ftp, and fairly new to the game. I have a lot of experience with MMO's and DnD, she's experienced in DnD. So, we're up for interesting builds as long as they're 28pts and don't require Drow/Warforged/Monk/the-other-pay-class-I've-forgotten.

I was thinking about a Paladin and a Rogue/Wizard. That'd give us minor healing, decent taking, decent trap/lock, and some useful arcane spells. However, I don't really know how to go about building them. I know it's a tall order, but I don't want to screw up our characters and chances of success due to being noobs.

Hey Burt, loved you in Boogie Nights. Paly's are tough on 28 points because of a lot of stats are important and the extra 4 points help a lot.

It's a WF build but i couldn't locate a non WF one should give you ideas...go Human and take the extra feat.

Lastly, download the character planner and play around...

There are a LOT of possible combos, of course, but based on my experience duoing with a friend, I would recommend a rogue / ranger or rogue / bard as your trapmonkey (the ranger will have better DPS, be a bit more sturdy, and have an easier time of maintaining trap skills; while the bard will have nicer buffs & heals) and a melee DPS or battlecleric (i.e., cleric with splash of fighter for martial weapons & extra feat) for a partner. Basically the idea is to have pretty good DPS combined with some healing, buffs, and trap skills. Trapmonkeying isn't strictly necessary, but it is a handy source of bonus XP and survivability when you're new to the game; plus it just doesn't feel like D&D without it. Dwarves or humans are probably the best races for new players, IMHO. Tihocan's guide which Eladiun linked is a good starting place for ideas.

Warforged are basically ideal for arcane casters or rogue / wizards - sturdier and can self-heal w/Repair spells - so I would wait until you unlocked WF before making one. A WF duo would rawk, but naturally you'd have to unlock them on both accounts. Might not want to do that until you're sure you like DDO.

My favorite Duo so far is Ranger/rogue (18/1) Tempest III who can handle traps and 20 Bard Warchanter, can buff, heal, dps, or do whatever is needed.

I near exclusively duo with my wife, and we are: 1) dwarven battle cleric/trapmonkey (18 cleric/1 fighter/1 rogue) and 2) Human TWF Kensei III (20 fighter). The cleric is lvl10 and the kensei is lvl8 and we are having a blast. So far I can trapmonkey pretty much everything (tried up to quests lvl9 normal) and she is becoming a real kopesh wielding blender.
    Good luck
