    Default Amped TempestIII Trapper

    First of all, I want to clerify that I came up with this build idea before I read the expoiter build. It is along the same lines as the exploiter but no combat expertise and more healing amp. My personal preferences. Furthermore, I am saying up front that I am NOT claiming this build to be uber or the best possible build for all players. I am simply trying to come up with a build that suits my playing style and my situation. I will be eventually, not soon, TRing my fighter so I am starting ahead of time to be ready. I will provide facts and you can judge for yourself whether you like the build. My opinion is this is a very versatile melee build with IMO very good dps, self healing, buffs, AC, UMD, and excellent trap abilities. Please feel free to leave friendly, non abusive helpful replies.

    --This is a 34pt build.

    --TWF is provided by the Tempest enhancement line I-III which gives a 10% faster melee attack speed, +4 shield bonus to AC, removes 2 of the penalty to using twf, and an extra attack in the attack chain. All the twf feats (except oversize which is taken later) are granted just by being a Ranger.

    --UMD22 unbuffed (put as many points into this as possible)

    --Self healing is amped up with Ranger DevotionI-IV(40% increase in healing spells cast), Human Improved RecoveryI-III(30% increase to healing recieved), and the Empower Healing feat(gives a 50% amp to healing spells cast). CSW should hit for over 100. Some do not believe they need all the healing amp so another feat or different enhancements could be taken instead.

    --Trap skills are maxed. Ranger SearchI-III enchancements are taken as well as Rogue DisableI. Open lock is not quite maxed but should be more than good enough with gear and skill buffs.

    --Bow abilities are Bow Strength, Many Shot, Precise Shot, Improved Precise Shot, and Rapid Shot. All granted just by being a ranger.

    --Later in life one could use armor bracers and and Icy Rainment for example, use a +6 wisdom item, and gain +5AC from being monk.

    --All ability increases are put into strength.

    --+2 tomes are used at lvl7. Anyone TRing can aquire these and have them banked first.

    Default Healing Rangers Rock

    Healing rangers are pretty sweet. I strongly recommend farming out the torc as soon as you can. I run a multiclassed tactics healing ranger with quicken, maximize, and empower healing, and it's really a fun way to play a melee. Being able to improve not only your own heals but also your cleric's is a good way to stay alive.

    What kind of gear are you looking at? You will find that it can be extremely difficult to gear this type of character up if you are still interested in AC at endgame.

    You might consider starting with a lower dexterity, since rangers get greater two weapon fighting regardless of dex. That might help you up your strength a little bit.

    I don't even know what the torc is. So far I have GS Khopeshes with holy minI on them. Hoping to soon have minII on one of them. I have dragontouched armor (not complete). I think I might start farming the icy rainment and work on getting some +8 armored bracers. Can you give me some suggested gear and let me know what stats they have? Thanks.

    The torc is a necklace from the demon queen raid that gives you mana back when you get hit.

    Here's how I make it work on my ranger, but I have to say that I'm throwing away my +3 dodge dragontouched and changing my monk level to barbarian at the soonest opportunity:

    Armor: Epic Vulkoorim Dervish Robes (Armor Bonus +6, Maximize II, Disintegration Guard, Greater Fire Resist, Blue Slot: Toughness)
    Bracers: Greensteel mineral II 45 HP, protection +5, heavy fortification
    Goggles: Mentau's Goggles (seeker +4)
    Helm: Greensteel concordant opposition, 300 spell points, 6 wis, +5 cha skills
    Necklace: Torc of Price Raiyum (75 SP, transform kinetic energy)
    Cloak: Wretched Twilight (20% blur, +4 sneak attack, +5 stealth, -20% ranged hate, ghost touch)
    Trinket: Litany of the Dead (+1 to all stats, +1 hit/dam)
    Belt: Knost's Belt (6 con/Greater False Life)
    Gloves: Epic Spectral Gloves (+7 dex, +4 to-hit, ghost touch)

    Man, that's some very nice eqipment. Now I understand why everyone wants to do the ADQ raid. I got the cloak of the zepher from that raid. Obviously not as nice as the wretched twilight but not bad. Those robes are awesome! Why all the cha? UMD? The litany is nice, is that the one you take a negative lvl for using or something? Why not an epic bloodstone? I'll have to look at the static rewards post again to find where to get this loot. Thanks a bunch for the info!

    After a point, my 50-60ish AC just wasn't helping me nearly as much as it used to. And it wasn't making me as happy as fast run speed makes me. With my stunning blow build, the rage isn't a bad choice, either.

    Thanks. Demon Queen loot is great, and it's a good place to use that ranged ability you're touting.

    My build doesn't have a lot of UMD, but yours does, so you'll really need to fit that in. For me, it's to boost intimidate for trash mobs.

    You only get a negative level if you're good aligned. I'm neutral. Even so, the penalties are minor (-1 saves, -5 hp, -5 mana) compared to the benefits. I use it because I like the extra to-hit and because I have seeker 4 on my goggles, so I get the best of both worlds -- saves, AC, hit points, to-hit, and damage. You might have to run the numbers on your own build to see what is worthwhile for you.

    Deth, as i told you on the other thread, and anthios confirmed, you want quicken and maybe maximize for this build, and from all the nice equipment anthios posted, the things you really need is the torq, and a concordant opposition item (its another double tier III shroud item, so more grinding after your pair of MinII).
    Interesting from Anthios build that she solves her feat starving by adding some fighter levels, you lose tempest III, but i dont think that will hurt you a lot, of course you have to sacrifice monk or rogue to add fighter... which could be painfull for your "get it all" focus.

    Much better, and Anthios is one of the "Big Names" I listed. She knows her $hit. She is a great builder. Also by having a few fighter levels you do indeed get more feats.

    Also here is a neat way to look at self healing.

    Total SP is your gas tank.

    If all your spells use lotsa SP, but you can not regen that SP. You get bad MPG (miles per gallon).

    If you can regen, you end up noticing the starting SP matters less and less.

    Torc and Concord Opp are the ways to improve you SP Regen or Miles Per gallon. This is why everyone thought you having mental toughness was odd.

    Having the self-healing is amazingly helpful, just not at the expense of too much DPS (read power attack).

    I think you can go with this newer build or take Anthios build or even make a nice synergy between the two and have a cool hybrid.

    Also this proposed build would be a Solo beast.

    Now in fairness though. Anthios' gear is not/never typical gear. She runs raid trains and knows the game backwards and forward. Little trivia...who had the first Epic Red Dragonscale armor? Fanfare with Anthios' help. Just so ya know, ya may end up grinding a bit before TRing (thats fine man). When you are ready to hit the TR button...you will be ready.

    If I was going to have one and only one main...I would not have a problem with it being a ranger. They are great DPS and very versatile. And in the hands a skilled player...they can carry a Group/Raid.

    Bravo on the new approach! I think you'll get a much more positive response with this thread. Also nice to see that you took some of the suggestions and criticisms and incorporated some changes and kept others.

    I have to say this build looks much more solid than the first.

    I know you want to go the str route and use kopeshes, but have you considered maybe switching to a dex build and using rapiers? I know it would be very hard to fit in weapon finesse, but I think you could get your dex high enough that it will negate your need to take OTW and the kopesh feat. This could possibly free you up to take the feat Quicken that a few people have suggested too. A dex build with moderate str and power attack will still put out decent dps and will have a much higher to hit than your current build. As an added bonus it will add to your AC (since you are eventually switching to robes and AC bracers). You're only at Tier 1 on your Kopeshes , so there's not a major loss in resources either. You could always keep the build as is until you farm the resources to craft the min II rapiers and maybe pull or buy a few nice ones. Just food for thought. Hope it helps.

    I really want tempestIII. It really is difficult to "get it all". I wonder if swapping quicken for OTWF would solve this... It's only a -2 to attack right? I think raid buffs, the 2 less penalty from tempestIII, and better gear might compensate for this. What do you all think?

    I have a fighter/cleric with max concentration and he seems to heal fine in battle. I primarily only heal myself in battle if the clerics aren't keeping up and I drop really low. I can stand there and heal while being hit 99% of the time so far. If I am soloing I can just jump back and heal to be sure. I could always swap it later on too. I think after I run my fighter in epic I might have a better idea of what works for me. I do value your advice and will keep it in mind. Thanks.

    Torc and Concord Opp are the ways to improve you SP Regen or Miles Per gallon. This is why everyone thought you having mental toughness was odd.

    Having the self-healing is amazingly helpful, just not at the expense of too much DPS (read power attack).

    I think you can go with this newer build or take Anthios build or even make a nice synergy between the two and have a cool hybrid.

    Also this proposed build would be a Solo beast.

    Now in fairness though. Anthios' gear is not/never typical gear. She runs raid trains and knows the game backwards and forward. Little trivia...who had the first Epic Red Dragonscale armor? Fanfare with Anthios' help. Just so ya know, ya may end up grinding a bit before TRing (thats fine man). When you are ready to hit the TR button...you will be ready.

    If I was going to have one and only one main...I would not have a problem with it being a ranger. They are great DPS and very versatile. And in the hands a skilled player...they can carry a Group/Raid.

    I agree. It seems rangers are great all around builds. That is why I have settled on this class. It has everything I like to do. Melee, self heal, and great bow abilities which come in handy. I really like doing traps. I don't know why. So hopefully I can "get it all" in one nice build. I don't believe I've sacrificed any DPS with all the self healing amp. He has khopeshes, 24str, power attack, and tempestIII. A small gain with sneak attack 1d6+3 with rogue sneak attack trainingI, plus the favored enemy damage on fe's. I think the DPS will be better than my current F12/Cl6/Ro2. Although he has 34 strength with a +6 item on and after eating a +2 tome. nom nom nom. I think the extra attack speed of tempestIII and the extra attack should put out a lot more dps than my fighter hasted.

    I do have the spell storing ring. I will without a doubt have to get a lot more gear before I TR. It will probably be months before I actually do it. I appreciate your advice.

    I know you want to go the str route and use kopeshes, but have you considered maybe switching to a dex build and using rapiers? I know it would be very hard to fit in weapon finesse, but I think you could get your dex high enough that it will negate your need to take OTW and the kopesh feat. A dex build with moderate str and power attack will still put out decent dps and will have a much higher to hit than your current build. As an added bonus it will add to your AC (since you are eventually switching to robes and AC bracers). You're only at Tier 1 on your Kopeshes , so there's not a major loss in resources either. You could always keep the build as is until you farm the resources to craft the min II rapiers and maybe pull or buy a few nice ones. Just food for thought. Hope it helps.
    That other build definitely had some problems. And I still have things to ponder on this one. I appreciate all of you guys input on this.

    I do like my Khopeshes and strength. I was considering replacing OTWF with quicken if healing in battle became an issue though. The added AC and to hit would be nice but I think I'm going to stick with Khopeshes and strength. Thanks for the suggestions though!!

    Do keep in mind that the extra feats from 4 fighter are empower healing and stunning blow, which you don't need. As I said, mine is kind of a specialized build. If you wanted, you could do quite well as an 18/1/1, or 18/2 (fighter or monk fighter or monk rogue) but you would need to fit in the extra feat to take Tempest III. That means you'll probably have to dump combat expertise like I did ( kinda sucks with self-healing anyway)

    For example, with 9 feats:

    Toughness
    Dodge
    Mobility
    Spring Attack (to qualify for Tempest 1)
    Improved Critical: Slashing
    Oversized Two Weapon Fighting (to qualify for tempest3)
    Power Attack
    Quicken
    Maximize

    I like using Khopeshes so I need to take ewp Khopesh. I still haven't been sold on quicken. I tried it before and it burned so much energy I didn't like it. Same problem I foresee with Maximize. Empower healing is only 10 more where maximize is 25 more. Sure, it heals for more but too much of a cost imo. I may change my mind later and I can always swap it if needs be. Now I know what to do if I need to do it though. Thanks!
