Default New to game. Trying to make a DPS Tank Build. Need Advice.

Hi, I'm kinda new to DDO but I've played DND 3.5 with my friends when we had the chance so hopefully I don't sound like a complete noob at this XD. In any case I'm working on a dps tank build at the moment and decided that I wanted to try out a lvl 10 fighter / 10 barbarian but I was actually wanting to get some advice about that. So far my fighter is level 2.

I figured by waiting till lvl 5 to level as a barbarian I could maximize the amount of feats I could obtain as a fighter. Also I saw that in order for me to obtain the best toughness and strength enhancements I would at least need a fighter level of 10, the same is true for barbarian with the constitution and rage enhancements that I would be using at least according to DDO Character Planner 3.34 which I found while looking on the forums. Using that program here is my character without any tome enhancements (I do plan on using tomes which may change this build but..well you know how it is tomes don't exactly grow on trees.)

Level 20 Chaotic Good Human Male

DPS & tanking don't mix that well, IMHO, especially on 28-pt n00b builds. Barbarians and tanking definitely don't mix, because you sacrifice AC when Raging. And a 10 / 10 level split is almost always a subpar idea because of the way the PrEs break at lvls 6 / 12 / 18. My suggestion would be to pick a role - DPS or tank (DPS is easier) - and focus on it.

Pure fighters of fighters wtih a splash of monk or rogue for evasion make much better DPS/Tank switch characters. This is because they get a great number of feats and can maintain offense and defense postures at the same time.

DPS in DDO is about two things... getting more attacks and making your attacks hit harder

Tanking is about three things... Defending against melee, defending against magic, holding agro. No you can be durable without actually being a tank, thats always good but when folks hear Tank they tend to think a character that takes hits for the party and can withstand nearly any assault.

Level splits are best decided by looking at the abilities in each class that you want and then balancing the two, making an arbitrary number choice like 10/10 tends not to work out well. Because prestige enhancements are powerful and come at levels 6/12/18 those are very common targets for melee classes. (Casters tend to split based on spells they want.)

Barbarian + Fighter is best for making a DPS focused character that wants a bit more variety than a pure barbarian. Fighter 12, Barbarian 6, Rogue 2 would be the common split these days for that.

You will wan more constitution, less int and charisma on a build like this in most cases. If you are going for a true tank... then int should be around 13, lower str slightly (17 and 18 cost a lot of build points), possibly a tad more charisma for intimidating... etc... anyhow lots of good tank builds out there to look at.

On the up side you picked pretty good enhancements and the few feat choices you show are also good ones.
