    Default Empower vs. Maximize

Is Empower useful when I already have Maximize? Because one would never know if x1.5 would be just enough to do the kill so I would simply choose for x2 but only use it wise on necessary situations.

By level 20 you definitely want both.

You want both. You use them at the same time.

    I took both.

The only metamagics that I personally find useful are...extend, empower, maximize, highten, and quicken. Enlarge could help you hit critters further away so it can be useful at times but it doesn't help kill faster.

If I need extra umph I'll turn on empower. I'll have empower on normal to help me roughly gauge how fast I'll burn through SP in a quest I haven't done and in hard maximize helps a bit more to kill faster(in normal with maximize on critters tend to vaporize fairly quickly and isn't really necessary, hard they need to be taken down more), and elite I'll turn on the empower for extra umph with maximize if maximize alone isn't cutting it or for the boss fight.
Disappointed and without trust in the powers that be.

You want both by level 12 at the latest. I shoot for level 6 so Firewalls cook as hot as possible, as soon as possible.

If u truely intend on only picking one...it's Maximize. You need all the dps per cast you can get at higher levels. If u plan on using both be careful, for one ur a Wizard not a Sorc, and for two with both going all the time ur mana goes bye-byre rather quickly.

I have both on my nuking Sorc, and when I have them both going my mana drops very fast. The key is to know how to utilize a single or double cast instead of lighting up the whole room, and spamming single target spells. Let the melees do thier thing too

Judging from the responses... Can I activate both Empower & Maximize for a 1.5 x 2 modifier??

You can have both active at the same time, and you will probably have both active at the same time late game nearly always.

I never turn off max emp extend or heighten on my sorc.

I disagree if running out of mana at higher lvls on wizz you are doing something wrong. (Accept Epic even though should rarely use pots)

Using both does deplete man quicker but kills quicker also. So if learn to place spells right and not spam like idiot having both going is nothing.

I keep Max, emp, extend, heighten, and quicken on at all times on my wiz never have issues.

You want both, you'll never turn them off and you'll be wishing the game had twin spell or some other metamagic to toss on top so you have a hope in hell of keeping up with the 300+ DPS melee.

Uhmmm...which is exactly what i said. Plus learning how to turn on and off ur meta's for given situations is just plain good casting...u don't need all metas on at all times....sometimes u are just wasting spell points....and I am not talking about buffing niether.

Let me make myself clearer you compared mana from sorc and wiz and thats where I disagreed. A sorc has more mana but a well played wizz will be able to deal with any quest if played smart.

Other than that in that post agree with you didn't totally make clear.

Sorcs and wiz (which I have capped both ) with either in end game and running up never turned off anything. Very very rarely ran out unless was a bad group.

It is all about smart play and player behind the keys not in total mana.

You are right you don't need full time but if you are smart and play smart you will never need to turn off.
