Default Permadeath discussion on MMORPG.com (Have your say)

    Greets.

Just bringing to attention a new developer topic on MMORPG.com that revolves around Permadeath.

    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cf...handle-it.html

Since you are all familiar with the pros/cons of this niche "RP" sector, and have experience and insights - go and have your say (and perhaps sway) the developers of upcoming MMOs.

It's very rare for someone to be catering to PD MMO community - so let not this opportunity slip by!

    Regards.

That forum is for people that want to make MMOs, not people that are making them. Permadeath pops up there from time to time and becomes 5 pages of 'I would never play a permadeath MMO'. People do come up with some nice ideas in there but nothing really practical.

With all the Knee-jerk complaints that come with just a hint of the word Permadeath, the massive success of Hellgate:London , and the millions of players that enjoy 'working' on their characters, etc... The best we can hope for are permadeath options on character creation or seperate servers (too late in DDO's case though).

Developers right now are looking at the success of Farmville the way they looked at WoW a few years ago and saying 'how can we get a piece of that'

Last I checked, of the 20 or so responses, about 5 state "I will not play it". The rest voiced opinions and their concerns. The latter part are even offering very nice suggestions.

The "future" Dev community there is an amazing resource and wealth of information and creative advice. The way I look at it is.... if you dont say it, then they wont hear it - and things will never be implemented. Atleast give it your best shot?

For example... look at my AH sig link - had I remained silent ("bah, they'll never listen anyway") it might be that the AH search would not even have been officially promised for this year (yet again!). Who knows - but atleast I gave it my best. Who benefits? Everyone.

Quote from (Death and Return of) Superman comic book that stays with me always: "You have one life to live, make it count."

    Regards.

I read through it. Decided it's not worth my energy. Frankly I don't want a PD game. Don't want a PD server. However, I would like a hard core server where anyone wanting more challenge could go and those of us who want to play PD could still do our thing.

The idea of perma-death will be short lived.

The idea of permadeath has been in this game since its inception in 2006, and has only grown since then.

The idea of a segregated server where we have to play by sadistic rules that arent even main rules in 3.5, as they are mere footnotes in the optional rules, has never lived in the first place, nor will it.

You can have a perma-death guild without having to force it in the mouth of everyone else or infiltrate Public Party invites with sectarian ideologies ruining the gameplay of others. In that fashion you can create your own hierarchy of highest surviving members and perchance draw other members to join as side ventures apart from the majority of people who play if you made the distinction you were a PD character if carried out in a respectful way.

It would be a more underground (or elitest depending), tight nit guild that would add flavour to a server having players taking intiative themselves to set it in motion, but it should be done in a constructive not destuctive way in the regards to your average gamer ruining their fun by dropping out automatically when you die then erasing your existence without warning. Thus said with an identifiable guild tag (and I have seen some about) people will expect you to drop for good when you die and may very well grieve the more charismatic of your characters should they fall.

(Do you will your belongings to the next generation?)

Freedom to make your own choices is a good thing. I meant my first post in this to be a pun by the way.

I have no idea what you are trying to communicate.
