It seems to me like Hold Person covers a subset of the targets of Hold Monster. Is this correct?

Hold person- Humanoids, (elfs, humans, regular dwarfs, halflings maybe missing some)
Hold monster- giants, trolls, orcs, druegar, drow scorrow, and monsterous humanoids I believe.
Theres a reason why you have both one holds humanoid types the other holds monster types but some monster types even though they look human like giants and duegar are only affected by hold monster.

I dont think they are but I'll have to go run that quest out in Ataraxia's again to make sure im pretty sure hold monster worked on the and ive seen them paralyzed before. They have incredible saves but they can be held last I remember.
But of course I do drink some so my memory is sketchy

Pretty sure Hold Monster works on all creatures with an intellegence. Ofcourse deuguars and forged are innately immune.

k i'll believe it I really dont feel like running threw Ataraxias and it has been awhile and as I said before brain cells aint what they used to be so I definitely could be wrong about Duegars I just swore I saw them held before.
And yes Quizpon is right about the other mobs that can be held to I was just going off the top of my head.
I dont think its about superiority as much as its about use and both spells have usefulness. anything that can stop a mob so the party or yourself can beat it down is a spell worth having.

Duergar are very susceptible to water.....dirty miners!!!!
Hold Monster is far superior, it holds anything that hold person does and almost everything it doesn't.
