Just starting, need advice

Hello DDO. I plan on starting this game tomorrow and need some advice. I have had a hard choice between Necromancer and ranger, but i think im more towards ranger. If possible id like to play a melee based ranger, and if possible have the companion summon spell. As a new player starting i would like advice on which race/class and anything related, aswell as any other information a new player should know.

Ultimately, why not play both? But tempest will, I think, be easier and less cash intensive for you to start on.

Do note that summons for Rangers are fairly weak - in fact, compared to some other games (including some PnP versions of DnD), all DDO summons are weak.
