    Default Power attack

Mucking about with a fighter build, and just need to know where Power attack fits in the fighter cosmos - no good, don't leave home without it, or situational for [insert build type here] ?

    Thanks

Pretty much any front line melee build is going to want power attack. It's an extra +5 damage per attack, with a -5 to-hit penalty. You can turn it off if you run a higher level quest on elite for example, and can't hit anything due to the -5.

As a fighter ... you want weapon specialization + greater weapon specialization + "power attack" and least one toughness <- BASE feats as required by all Emili melee built. I do not care if you're a defensive tank build or jack of trades and especially if you see yourself as any DPS (Which btw all melee need some) this is a staple baseline of a fighters possible melee output. Power Attack to me is important to fit in on every melee build.

    Default So...

    Thanks!

So: usage is situational (for relatively weak creatures wrt you)
But it's a desirable or essential feat for a fighting type

    Toughness I had figured.

weapon spec + greater are prerequisites for Kensai ? Or just way good in themselves?

depends on gear and build. my kensai hits +60 to attack, i do not turn PA off except when i run epic stuff

you will need superior weapon focus for kensai III
If you want to know why...

What she said and I would add Improved Crit.

Power attack is a staple and fits under "dont leave home without it."

Oooo, thanks for the catch... Improved Crit is the highest priority one by far. <- this is the most important melee feat.

No, Kensai require the focus' as Aranticus said - they too are good to themselves but required on Kensai in

I keep PA on in higher Elite quests, to-hit is high ... I never turn PA off, unless turtled in CE mode or in partaking very special strategies.

weapon spec and greater weapon spec are damage enhancing +2 each totalling 4.

A typical Kensai is grabing another +2 so with PA on you have +11 damage before adding in strength, weapons and other boosts...

it depends, at present, i'm using min 2s and vorpals for 99% of the content. as such imp crit is not important at all. imp crit is really important at around L8-L14
