Default Books that would make good MMO's

This was on our forum www.unrepentantgaming.org and I think it is a great topic. For those of you that read (i work at an airport, people leave books all over the place) are there any books or series of book that you think could be made into a good MMO. Personally I am surprised that Harry Potter is not an MMO. 4 houses against each other would be cool. Personally the world that R.A. Salvatore has created makes me drool but might be to close to DnD and WoW of course. One of our guild suggested the Wheel of Time books or Discworld. What about the whole Horror fantasy stuff. How come no MMO's there? or a solid Western MMO. What books would make a great mmo for you guys.

Fred Saberhagen's book of swords world would be great. Starting with the Empire of the East series.

When I duel someone I like to dual wield. with my rouge wearing rogue.

Wheel of time would be too restrictive vis a vis magic ability. Also, they only fight, like, 3 different races of things, iirc.

A Pratchett mmo would be quality, but i don't know enough to give proper feedback.

I'd be down for a cyberpunk game (Shadowrun, Neuromancer) but they already failed with things like The Matrix and Tabula Rasa. I think an updated Anarchy Online could be amazing. In my head, cyberpunk encompasses the best elements of scifi, horror, fantasy, and western.

Just mentioning the loss of Tabula Rasa makes me sad. I so miss that game.

I was actually looking through the list of Eberron books on Wizards site and reading the little blurbs they put on the back of the paperbacks. I realized that a lot of the stuff you see in DDO directly corresponds to some of the events that have taken place in the novels. Pretty cool...so, now I have to go pick up some Eberron novels. lol

The premise behind the world of the dark tower books by stephen king might be interesting as well (can detail out what I mean by this if requested).
The Deadlands rpg books by pinnacle might also make for a interesting MMO if they can flesh the card playing system out.

Wouldnt be races but different groups of humans, since thats all there was. Except for elementals, and demons.

I quite enjoyed the series by Robert Asprin "Another fine Myth" which has about 10 books in the series. some of it was DnD like but they had portals to different dimensions which would make this content endless. extremely funny to. Like that game Dungeon runners... which is halarious.

There are tons of worlds from Clive barker and Neil Gaiman books I would love to see in an MMO. Imajica, Weaveworld, American Gods, and The Great and Secret Show just to name a few. How about a Hellraiser MMO?
AS much as it pains me to say it... I think there would be a lot of potential in an Anita Blake MMO.

I'm amazed Dune was never made into an MMO.

As cheesy as it sounds, I would totally want to play a Starship Troopers inspired FPS/MMO. And not the crappy movie version - the original powered armor bug squashing Mobile Infantry, thank you very much! Dao's Devils, ready to drop!

    This.

Benejesuit sisters would be O.P. though and cause havoc with balancing, then the Fremen would be O.P. in Melee and they'd have to juggle, but what good MMO doesn't have those problems?

    Some good ideas here, fo'serial
    I would add:

    - Death Gate Cycle (Weis & Hickman)
    - NecroScope (Brian Lumley)
    - DresdenFiles [Harry Dresden world settings] (Jim Butcher)

They never did a full on World of Darkness MMO, did they?

That one's so obvious it seems like it already happened...

I can't believe no one's mentioned this, but I'd be in heaven if there was an MMO based on China Mieville's trilogy (Perdido Street Station, The Scar, Iron Council). About ten really good, completely unique races and more steampunk than you can shake a fReemade at. The world he thought up was designed for an MMO, in my opinion. I would love to "walk" through New Crobuzon with an avatar, go check out the Cacotopic Stain, and battle some Inchmen.

    Penthouse forums..........great MMO potential there
Next time you get a lecture, just remember the national average salary of any forum admin is comparable to that of your local McDonald's assistant manger........ stating facts must suck.....

There was a thread like this sometime back. It didn't get a lot of attention, but some of us enjoyed it.

My thoughts are that Piers Anthony's Xanth series, or Adept series would both make excellent fantasy MMO's. Adept would have the added advantage of a game within a game. Both have dragons, and harpys, magic, zombies, and lots and lots of humorous adventure.

OH, and puns, tons of puns!

Also John Norman's Chronicles of Gor would be awesome, although it would have to be toned down a bit for the general public. Pirates, priestkings, outsiders, nomads, warriors, and..... Slave girls
