Default WF only noob friendly guild

The Son of Blades are recruiting any WF toons. We have some newer players an would
be happy to help out. If you need a build or advice when in guild we happen to be very helpful. The guild is average in size at the moment but would like to grow. Our goal would be to have a party of only wf and cause a few to roll up repair speced sorcs to heal . If your on ghallanda message any one in the guild asking for a invite and specify you are a WF and an officer will help you soon

    Default Newb unfriendly guild

The purpose of this post is to share my experience with the Sons of Blades. Hopefully others will share their own to produce a balanced view of this guild because my experience has been unfortunately negative.

First, I play from 9p-3a eastern. As I have only had contact with one guild officer during this time others may have better stories to tell of the daywalkers. Please share, because it is not fair to judge an entire guild based on one officer. I also have only one level 7 character, and have not been playing very long. However, based on my small pick up group experience, I have problems with a guild that has an officer like this.

Having grouped with this officer in the past I had noticed a reckless streak in him that I attributed to maybe a little too much zerging. Sure he got out ahead of the group, but he was a level or two ahead of everyone else, so no biggie. Running Shan To Kor with him last night I was horrified. It was my first time in the dungeon and I had no idea the amount of traps. He did, but failed to even attempt to bring along a rogue. For the newbie looking for guild advice, this means less experience for the party, in this case a 25% + exp. missed opportunity. He failed to say even the most basic “There’s a boss here” or “We can’t get back to this shrine, so don’t save it.” When I told him that I could cast protection from energy he ignored me and ran through the ice traps. The ice traps that were already firing. This is a small list of the shortcomings within the run, the sum total of which points to ineptitude and a sorry lack of understanding regarding game mechanics. However, much can be forgiven if you make it through a run and get the loot. What truly bothered me and caused me to leave was his advice to another guild member on character building.

This guildie asked if THF was a worthwhile feat. The officer responded that “A bit of glancing damage isn’t worth it.” This puzzled me, since most of the TWF v. THF discussions have glancing damage and glancing proc figuring prominently. When the guildie went on to ask for numbers on the glancing damage the officer said to do whatever he wanted. I offered the forum, wiki, and character planner. The officer said he “Tried looking on that forum but didn’t have time for that ****.” He used the age old defense of this being a game and not wanting to tell others how to play. However, he was an officer being asked a question regarding game mechanics. This is not acceptable for a supposedly newb friendly guild. When I called him on it later, saying that he was not helping his guild mates to create effective builds, he responded that his primary motivation is creating a cool looking toon. Yes, that’s right, his weapon choice is based on the animations of the weapon, his armor based on looks. If this is your goal, by all means join. However, I am going to look for a guild that gives advice based on things like making sure my DCs can actually hit something.

One last issue is the guild quartermaster. When I joined the guild I was told of the practice of sending things to the quartermaster to be given to new players, rather than selling them. Since I had sent a few things in I thought I would message the quartermaster with my reasons for leaving. Now I find that the quartermaster and the officer in question are the same. This wouldn’t bother me if the officer had said “Send things to my alt who I have for item management.” Having heard some griping on the guild chat about a lack of response as to exactly what the quartermaster has, it made me wonder if this is a way for the officer to play dress up, trying out the things that members send him like What Not To Wear: DDO.

As I’ve said, it is unfair to judge an entire guild by one officer, especially since I play in such a restricted window. Please share your positive stories to balance out mine. For now, however, my advice is for new players to avoid this guild.
