I don't mean to be overly rude here ... but Turbine delivers what? They never gave an estimate for server up ... so they have neither delivered nor failed to deliver on anything at the moment.

Ive been part of a lot of MMO's and never have I seen one take it down a day in advance to launch something that was beta tested. Usually it will come down the day of the launch, 6 hours later it is up. And it will come down a few times off and on for a bug fix.

What I see happening is this same process , only they have had the server down for 25 hours, we all start patching and they will have problems throughout the day and will still have to take it offline multiple times just like any other MMO, So I guess why have a full day of downtime when its bound to be coming down all day anyways which is pretty much 2 days of down time for the customer.

Database wise there are some pretty good reasons why they would need a day down.
Due this store thing i can place my bet that alo of table structures where changed and alot of new flags added.
Maybe they decided that with all this effort and in order to make the servers faster and more "durable" they upgraded the database servers... not the hardware but the software.
that process in larger scales can take alot of time.
Just a good maintenance could take alot of time.

Since they got the rights for the game.. for the next 7 years. id place my coins that having this in mind the mod 9 wasnt only a content... but a huge software infrastructure rebuild.

actually.. if you can add 1 to 1... this conclusion is pretty obvious.

No kidding. And they even gave the courtesy of a "don't wait up all night for it" warning.

I dont see why people are so worried about f2p players being jerks...
