Maybe The Cube is upset with the delay of mod9? Or Shavarath finally got a hold on The Cube and turned him into a devil.

Boots of anchoring are talked about on Llama land by one of the NPC's. They help you not get banished off Shavarath. Heh. So first the fiendish cube eats your boots... then he banishes you.
