    Default High diplo paladin

OK. I am not a fond maker of pallys' to begin with, But something in one of my static group builds I noticed my pally had this diplo skill...

and I wondered what would happen if I pushed that button.

now. I know your all about to shout how worthless this is. But it was the funniest thing to see the enemies fleeing to my comrades to beat on thier heads.

HAHA! yes big mean old tank send the baddies to beat up the caster/cleric even faster.

with soo many intimidate builds out there... I wonder if any really tried to produce a high lvl pally with maxed Diplo. and how well it worked.

I am going to imagine it would ease the strain of trying to get a ridiculous AC on that toon, as the enemies will be influence to beat up on others.

Not very kind to your party memebrs... but hey if you in a guild run why not?

I always try to remember to hit it when I am getting beat up. My twf pali has had no luck with small shards yet, so his AC is still very low. That is half the reason I maxed diplomacy. Good casters and clerics know how to deal with agro anyway.

Umm... my casters and clerics deal with aggro by carefully NOT getting it...

Having aggro dumped on me by one of the melees in the group isn't going to make me happy.. especially mass aggro... How exactly am I supposed to deal with it?

    Lol

I generally don't diplo if there is only a spellcaster around. I usually do it when there are other tanks there to take the heat while I quickly heal myself.

But I don't mind throwing it around if the arcanes are throwing firewalls and clouds/webs and if the clerics have a BB up I assume they are prepared for agro from mobs.

Diplo can be usefull on your Paladin.

Spamming it mindlessly to just get rid of aggro at the expense of your (most propably less though) comrades will lead to ruin very fast.

Using it in very specific situations to get a few secounds breathing space to self-heal is a good way of using it. If you can dump the aggro on characters who can deal with it in this moment.

You could make an effective Diplo Paladin.

I'd recommend dwarf, wf, or drow. The main goal of the build would be to cripple or hamstring a mob and then diplo it away and beat on its back. WF and dwarf would use tactics and hamstring, the drow would use crippling rapiers (or crippling DT/chain shirt).

I would probably go some mix of PLD,RNG,FTR,MNK,ROG. If you went with ROG lvls then halfling would be on the table as well. RNG could lend itself to elf, if some focus was put into bow use as the mob runs away.

I have a high diplo paladin. When you work in a group who works together it works wonders. It can be used as a sort of hearding technique. Start smashing skulls, get the agro off casters if they have it, drag them over to bigger meathead than you, hit diplomacy, meathead hits intimidate. Normally it works well. Honestly, I like it....makes it a little different playing from everyone else.

It also works great on the wall in part II of the shroud....beat beat beat crit exhaulted smite, diplo, agro back to caster....continue beating.

Or you can go high intimdate and dipolmacy. Get everyones agro, run towards the cleric or caster and hit diplomacy....hear said person curse you.

I could see high diplo working on a DPS paladin - it would play kind of like a rogue. On the other hand, if you're going to go high diplo/high DPS, might as well throw in a few rogue levels to get sneak attack while you're at it

HHAHAHA love the responses folks. However I am not so noble as to use the Diplo for my partie's benefit tho....

Hence the onus on a guildie-only charatacter.

But. I did roll it. seeing how badly I can make a worthless pally even more.

I did start with 2 levels of rogue for the boost to umd and diplo points. I am working for a low dps, low ac, high diplo backstabber.

It probably wont live long, but what the hay... I got nothing better to do.

even worse is how lame the alignment comes in. How can being lawful or good correspond into a core skill that sends our enemies screaming for my parties blood and not my own?

You know what diplo is great for? Your friend goes AFK and you run around getting ALL the aggro in a 10 mile radius, bring it back to said friend, hit diplo, walk away whistling....

    You must be on Khyber?

Then you are refering of course to we we call the "Katagan", where this character completely disregards the rest of the party to solo a quest hisself, while other party members are afk waiting for the rest of the party to enter, and grabbing all the aggro he can stand just shy of killing hisself, bringing the whole enraged mob back to the entrance to spectatcularly die while screaming for a heal from the afk clerics, which the mobs munch on causing a party wipe.

Ahh yes.. Our guild leader..... Sigh.
