    Default Stormreach Chronicle 03-20-09

A weekly look at what's happening around the forums! Tips, community spotlights, Turbine info, and more!

These players have gone above and beyond the call with a great contribution to the community!

Resident cookie fiend Jaggie has been busy crafting something a little more durable this week. Illustrating some serious artistic creativity, Jaggie has made an outstanding pair of Warforged boots, and a rather comfortable looking Cloak of the Silver Flame. Congratulations on blowing the community away with style!

Helping new or returning players, one topic at a time!

    DDO Dictionary: Challenge Rating (CR)
Definition: A Challenge Rating is a very rough measure of how easy or difficult a monster or quest is. For monsters, the CR indicates the average character level of a small party of adventurers for which one creature would be a moderate challenge. For quests on normal difficulty, the CR indicates the suggested level for a party of adventurers.

In a world where threads are tasty and posts are food, one Cube has chosen a question.
    Now he's looking for answers...

    This Week's Question, SniptheShadow asks:
Your account is being stripped of all characters, save one, and your character is being stripped of all gold and all items, save one. Pick a character and a single item to begin rebuilding.

    This week's answers:
Jefro says: I would keep my main Jefro, who has max favor and is a cleric. A cleric is a good class to rebuild your item collection because clerics are always welcomed. I would keep my lucky hat, yes it does not do anything but look good, but even without armor atleast I am going around in style.

Borror0 says: I'd keep one of my nameholders for future characters and a lump of coal.

That way, when I'd come on the forums to whine that I lost everything, there won't be a some guy to tell me "What are you complaining about? You've still got one high level alt and one good/rare item!"

Taelan says: I would keep my monk, Xennkari, as I have the most fun playing him. Sure, I may not get into every party but still ... And as for the one item, I would have to agree my Lucky Hat. After all, it looks the best and everything else is easier to replace.

The Cube would destroy whomever was stripping its account of characters. The Cube obeys nothing but its instincts.
    - Your friend, The Cube

    Next week's question, baddax asks:
How do Cubes reproduce? Are there male and female cubes? Are they like slimes and oozes that reproduce by splitting?

Think you have a good question for the community? Let The Cube judge!
Send your question for the Community to DDO@turbine.com - your questions/answers could make it past The Cube's belly, and into the next Chronicle!

The Cube does not reproduce. There is only one Cube. He is omnipresent and all mighty.

    All hail the Cube!

The cube is to sacred to be split, but at the same time to sacred to reproduce. He is almighty and immortal! THESE THINGS ARE MEANINGLESS TO THE CUBE!

The cube does not reproduced, its just the master of space time and there is really only one cube!

The Cube has always been affiliated with time travel, it was no coincidence that the TARDIS was built like a cube.
    I love you Abbot♥

    Smile To Curious Cube:

Actually I'm not the one that asked that question on keeping one item only if one had to start over from scratch.

I believe that honor goes to Draccus.

I wanted to give credit where credit is do...and it's an interesting question too.

    Thanks anyway.

I consider myself to be an afficiando of Cubes everywhere...I relish in the fact of knowing the things about Cubes that others do not seem to care a bit about...

As for the reproduction of how, when and where cubes may reproduce...well one only has to come to the conclusion that Cubes are asexual...I mean if you spent that much time deleting posts on the forums and eating, well do you even think that for one instance that the Cube can get some...let alone have the ability to coerce someone to get it on with?

So who is making Cubes would be the question? If you look at a lot of the threads I've been in, well, can you guess who Daddy might be? I not only make em, I make em famous...Cubes FTL

Thank me later, and quit haranguing me about how hard it was growing up, I live with the knowledge day in and day out as to why you're even here to begin with...what the heck was I thinking.

It's kind of like Jesus really...Hail the Cube, well then you must be praising me huh? Love your work...

Asexual reproduction is reproduction which does not involve meiosis, ploidy reduction, or fertilization. Only one parent is involved in asexual reproduction. A more stringent definition is agamogenesis which refers to reproduction without the fusion of gametes. Asexual reproduction is the primary form of reproduction for single-celled organisms such the slimes, oozes, and cubes. While all prokaryotes reproduce asexually (without the formation and fusion of gametes), mechanisms for lateral gene transfer such as conjugation, transformation and transduction are sometimes likened to sexual reproduction.

Because asexual reproduction does not require the formation of gametes (often in separate individuals) and bringing them together for fertilization, it occurs much faster than sexual reproduction and requires less energy. Asexual lineages can increase their numbers rapidly because all members can reproduce viable offspring.

A consequence of asexual reproduction, which may have both benefits and costs, is that offspring are typically genetically similar to their parent, with as broad a range as that individual receives from one parent. The lack of genetic recombination results in fewer genetic alternatives than with sexual reproduction. Many forms of asexual reproduction, for example budding or fragmentation, produce an exact replica of the parent. This genetic similarity may be beneficial if the genotype is well-suited to a stable environment, but disadvantageous if the environment is changing, such as a warforged barbarian dual weilding muckdooms.
