Default game start issue under DX10

I got a problem when I running ddo client with dx10.
After I log into the server, when ddo start to display the turbine trademark(animation).
ddo client suddenlly go black and shut off, then go back to desktop.

I have to start ddo client again, and log into the server, at this time, ddo client will display that animation and loading as normal.

To be short, after dx selected, everytime when I play ddo, I have to run client for twice, can anyone know how to solve this problem?

Quite a few people have had the same issue (including myself)

I think it's related to other windows being open at the same time.

You can also attempt to alieviate it by clicking rapidly on the black screen as the game starts up - this ensures it keeps the focus and doesn't crash to desktop.

I have the same problem in Vista. I always have to start it twice, other windows open or not. Clicking repeatedly to keep the computer "focused" on the black screen does nothing. Mine always just stops after I select my server, then I have to do it again. Yeaaaaaaah. Oh well. Have a winner!

I have a solution to this problem that appears to have worked since I did it.

You need to remove the DDO intro movies (*.bik) files - it would appear that it's the loading of these movies that causes the DX10 init failure.

Easiest way to do this is just to rename the 'raw' folder in your DDO folder to something else (e.g. 'raw.bak') - run the patcher and it will download the latest splash screen then launch as usual.

Since I did this I haven't had to start DDO twice (which I had to do almost every time before).

I hope this works for other people. I'll update here it I have to load twice in the end - but it's been OK for a week now... touch wood.

OK, so removing the movies doesn't work - I still get load errors sometimes... so back to square one.

I find if you don't have any other windows open when you launch DDO it seems to help.

No, you have to chant "Nothing but 20's" while sitting on one hand with your legs crossed or it doesn't work at all.

DX10 for DDO is BETA and not really official yet.

I think I've noticed a connection to Aero being active when this occurs. Turn off Aero and see if it still happens.

I also experiance other issues with the game client in dx10 which you can read here:
