    Well,
I have a Ftr 13 Archer CN Elf.......so I should know a few things about them.

Don't go CN.......CG or LG is better. Pure Good bows are nice....don't limit yourself like I did.

Might consider 1 lvl of Rgr at lvl 1. Only way to get bow Str feat.
Without Bow Str, Str is meaningless in Ranged combat.

But have a backup plan. Everything will run right up to you and melee you. Make sure your guy has something other than ranged to fall back on.

Currently, you can get Every ranged feat in the game by lvl 15.

I think if you went Rgr2/Ftr14 you would still get every ranged feat if you wanted to. And have Bow Str and TWF as well. Maybe even room for another feat in there somewhere.

If I rerolled my guy, that is what I would do.
I gave up a life of farming to become an Adventurer.

Any archer build should have at least one level of ranger (most likely the first) to get the bow strength feat. Then there are many directions to go from there. If you want to go fighter archer I would still suggest 6 or 11 level of ranger for the free feats then the rest fighter. If you want arguably the best damage ranger in the game, I would suggest 2 ranger / 14 barb for bow strength combined witht the improve critcal 2 enhancement from barb 14. It's possible just ranger might end up as being the best archer build in the game depending on how the deepwood sniper enhancement develops in the next mods. Elf is the best class for an archer build.

    Definately a better build.

Still, for this build, I personally would go six levels of ranger. At that level you get manyshoot free and improved two weapon fighting, so you would be more effective when you have to melee. I would then fill the rest out with fighter and the weapon specialization line. I think you can get deepwood sniper at ranger 6 too.

I would also probably take Quickdraw over toughness with this build. The amount of hitpoints you could save from faster switching between your bow to weapon/shield or weapon/weapon when needed outways the gain to hitpoints from toughness.

Does Quickdraw really help that much though? My problem has always been geting stuck in a reload animation.

To the OP: There are a few build possibilities that might be over all more effective for a well rounded toon.
My Archer's number one problem is that that is all he is good at. There are so many situations where it is either difficult to range, or just makes more sense to go melee. (especially when working with a group)

The main ranged feats to get are rapidshot, manyshot, and Improved Crit ranged....precise shot and improved precise shot second priority. The rest are nice for added damage, but not stellar.

A Rgr11 has all the good ones (assuming he takes Impr Crit)
A Rgr 6 qualifies for several good Rgr specialties.
Than there's the Brb Crit rage option.

I built mine as a dex build, which any Ftr build probably has to have a significant Dex to qualify. But a Rgr could be an all Str build and do more damage.

At any rate, just remember that you can't always range.....make sure you have something to fall back on.
My guy really struggles when he can't go ranged.

(also reconsider CN alignment.....LG,CG, or True Neutral are best....I suggest LG or CG)

I have a fighter 12 ranger 4 eleven archer. I recommend that build over yours because the extra 2 levels of fighter doesn't give you much. Level 4 ranger gives me ram's might (which at that level is +2 str and +1 damage), In addition at level 18 I plan to take mental toughness so I qualify for arcane archer or perhaps 2 more levels of ranger for deepwood sniper. You could do that now you would just have to take mental toughness, but it is unclear what arcane archer will look like with quivers. The other possible build that I have thought about doing is 2 rogue/12 fighter / 2 ranger the two rogue for the evasion and umd. In regards to 10 fighter/ 6 ranger deepwood sniper is overrated and you do give up fighter strength 3, greater weapon specialization, etc. Fighter haste boost is better then deepwood sniper anyway and more to the point I would prefer to not click two buttons and then the manyshot button it seems sort of inefficient.

A major enhancement that all fighter archers should have is fighter haste boost (get at least fighter haste boost 3). This enhancement will really increase your damage. What you do is hit the fighter haste boost right before you hit manyshot - this enhancement is one of the main advantages fighters have over rangers. Critical accuracy is not highly useful because my archer rarely misses anyway and is the enhancement I would cut. Neither is Fighter attack boost by the way as I said before I never miss so I would cut that one even before crit accuracy...

By the way the more I play my archer the more convinced I am that a high strength is the way to go. I started my archer with an 18 strength and an 18 dex (and also level ups into dex). I never miss with that 18 dex and I like that extra damage - if anything looking back I might even put some of my level ups into strength.

Keep toughness if you can - the extra hit points is one of the advantages of this build especially considering you don't have evasion.

I think you have a typo you don't want fighter attack boost but rather fighter haste boost.. Fighter attack boost just adds to-hit whereas fighter haste boost adds attack speed.

    Default Bad Spot

Something that really helps with ranged combat is Spot...you need as much spot as possible. The further away that you can spot stuff the better, the more time you have to ranged kill it.

I would use the 3-4 ranger lvls to maximize Spot as much as possible, save jump and balance for the fighter levels.

    Default Good discussion

A few of us had a very good discussion about Ranged-Focused builds over in the Ranger forums. Here's the link:

I'm still going with 11 Ranger / 4 Fighter / 1 Barbarian, Deepwood with the Silver longbow for damage and various situational bows. Happy reading, peace!
