Default Multiple Vista computes on same LAN freeze

My wife and I both play DDO. Both running Vista.

One Business Premium, one Home Premium.

The game was working fine accept for chat. Searched on the forms and found the UserSpecifiedPort=9000 fix. So I did that. Opened up the firewall on both computers to allow port 9000.

After that both computers connect to the chat server fine, however, after about 10 mins they both lock up. Windows is fine, DDO can be closed. We just can't play. Exiting DDO and restarting it (not Windows) solves the problem for about 10 minutes, then they lock up again.

I saw a few posts about forwarding port 9000 to the computer. Well obviously I can't forward port 9000 to 2 different computers. I tried setting one to port 9000 and one to port 9001. That didn't work either, the one set to Port 9000 was still actually connecting to port 9000.

Watching the traffic log there is also traffic going to port 9008. So I tried opening up 9000-9010, same issue, after 10 minutes both computers 'freeze'

Anyone else seen this and found a solution?

Well the first thing, I'd recommend as a test, is try bypassing the router and then play on one computer and see if you disconnect. If you do not then you know its a router config issue. Have you tried going to www.portforward.com and checking their suggested settings for your router? (Or the manufacturers website?)

As far as changing those ports it means in the userpreferences.ini file you change the line "userspecifiedport=xxxx" to a different value between 9000 and 9018 (9003 and 9005 are usually good to try) for each computer and try playing again.
