    Default Low spot rogue ok?

I'm thinking of rolling a combat-focued Dwarf rogue, and using WIS as a dump stat -- 8 start. And assume worst case he'd only have a +4 WIS helm to end at 12. Given max spot ranks, a bump from Way of the mechanic and a +13 from a dream visor, is that OK? Perhaps rogue spot I and/or II, but could I possibly dump that too?

My thinking is with a decent INT, Dw search buffs and again WotM, my search and disable will be in normal rogue league. So can I skimp a bit on spot. I mean, a trap can be found even when not spotted, even if it's a bit painful sometimes if you miss your Ref/evasion roll.

My past chars with rogue levels have been elf and drow so have had the cheap double-stacking of both class and racial search & spot enhancements. This is first char that could have a weaker spot, so I'm just wondering how much of a game impact it would be to dump spot a bit on this guy.

Oh if it helps understanding what I'm trying to do, this would be a rogue10/F2/Ra2 2WF STR build -- target 28 STR / 26 DEX. Full rogue capabilities intended in all aspects except the low-ish spot as discussed here. Thanks.

A good Spot also gives you a shadow to show invisible/hidden creatures (some oozes, hell hounds, rogues, etc). With the new 'fix' coming where you can't tab-target hidden enemies, you'll probably want to keep that spot.
    Just an opinion, of course.

    Lets WOrk Backwards...

36 -Reported High Water Mark for SPOT Skill.
-13 Item(+15 items are out there)
    -4 Greater Heroism
    -4 Spot ENH (+2 WotM +2 Rogue)
    -1 Wisdom (12 Wisdom)
    ----
    14

So with 14 Ranks in Spot you can hit the High water Mark Pretty easily....

Of course, there are other ways to boost spot as well.. Prayer/Luck Item +1 otr +2 Bard Song, More Points from ENH (Up to +6 Availabale)

BTW.. a "Good Spot" for detecting mobs is around 15 right now..... My Cleric spots stuff VERY early with just +7 Blindness Ward Googles of Minute seeing (Eagle?) +7

Have a similar built Dwarf str based rogue. Was considering using wisdom as my dump stat also. Decided to bump it up to 11 then use a +1 tome for 12. My reasoning is that eventually they will make the spot checks even out with the other trap based skills. I also believe they will eventually impliment alot more random traps in quests. I feel the spot skill will eventually be on par, in importance with the other skills. It is starting to happen already with the mob targetting requiring a spot check.

If you think everything is going stay the same as it is now you can get away with wisdom being a dump stat. I planned for what I think is going to develope. I bumped my charisma up one and used a tome to get it to eight. I think far less is likily to change on the UMD front as compared with spot. I can use cure wands and any RR items at +25, but it is lacking for now to be sure.

Just some things to think about.

I'm looking forward to the changes to spot, and the future of randomized traps. Hopefully this will slow groups down, even if only a little bit.
Rangers don't die, they just teleport to their bind point.
