    Smile Please fix these quests

    I finally made it even if it took me several hours of testing etc...
    You can, by the way, skip most of the text because basically only the last (yellow marked) part is interesting.

    Already years ago I got aware that in certain quests you lose Masters Blitz and other Epic Destiny things upon using any portal inside a quest.
    Therefore it was my plan to make the developers aware which quests are not working correctly.
    My test in each quest was quite simple, using the Exalted Angel Epic Destiny and use a Dimensional Door cast by a Hireling.
    In some quests, you lose the charges for your Reborn in Light and in others not upon using a Dimensional Door.
    Because of this, I got also results for quests where no other portals exist.
    This test should be good enough to confirm whether this works on any other portal in any quest or not and out of my experience there was never a contradiction to my test.
    I think it is out of the question that this should not happen in every last quest in the game and therefore this is quite sure this is a need to be fixed by the developers.

    And the second issue we have with the Lingering Grip of Death effect if you play in reaper difficulty.
    In certain quests, the Lingering Grip of Death timer starts again if you lash back to your soul stone.
    This is quite annoying but of course, at the first moment, it is questionable whether this is an intended additional difficulty or not.
    Anyway, I decided to do another test in which quests we have this and in which quest not.
    My test was quite simple, either I got intentionally killed by monsters or used two uncleansed green steel items to kill my character.
    Because of this, I got also a result for quests where you have no monster to fight.

    Now after this two tests I have a quite complete result and some patterns are now much more obvious.
    Even if I had already before I started the testing an idea what the patterns are but it was not proven enough in my opinion.
    One, may be surprising, result is that the lists for both cases are identical!
    This means if you have an issue with the Epic buffs like Masters Blitz you ALSO have an issue with the Lingering Grip of Death and this always, with no single exception!

    The next pattern is that it is just important from which area you enter a quest.
    e.g. if you are in the King's Forest, every quest you enter from the King's Forest doesn't work correctly.
    This is especially interesting because the only quest out of this arc you enter from Eveningstar works correctly.
    There also other examples that show clearly that the adventure packs are not the deciding factor whether a quest works correctly or not.

    In any case, I see my initial assumption that the Lingering Grip of Death effect reset is not an intended “feature” as clearly proven with this.
    Maybe both issues can be fixed when the developers got aware of the pattern.
    In any case, a fix is possible because I know it at last for Gianthold Tor that this quest worked once wrongly and now correctly.
    And all other quests you enter from the Gianthold public area work correctly too.

    And this leads to the final Pattern that only quests you enter from a public area are working correctly.
    While every quest you enter from a “wilderness area” working not correctly.
    And if they don't work correctly it is for BOTH the Epic Destiny and the Lingering Grip of Death effect.
    I wonder if the developers are not aware of this issue and maybe if they are, there is a quicker solution for this problem than looking into each quest separately.
    In any case, I hope my work was helpful.


    EDIT: I found an exeption with Ritual Sacrifice as the only quest I know you can enter from a public area and from a wilderness area.
    Seemingly this proves that the problem is "carried" with the character and related to certain wilderness areas.
    Therefore seemingly not the quests have to be fixed it is the character and/or the wilderness areas

    tl;dr version

    If you do a quest where you enter from a wilderness area, anytime you 'zone' while in the quest many abilities may lose their stacks (blitz for example).

    If you do a quest where you enter from a public area, this does not happen.

    Yup, it is that simple but because you see not the whole picture this simple pattern is not that easy to see.
    My testing was of course not complete (I tested not all difficulties e.g.) but complete enough to tell that this is the simple pattern.
    I can imagine a developer who tries to fix this issue has to look into something that is not related to the quest directly.
    And therefore it is maybe hard to see because this demands some kind of "out of the box thinking" and the box is the quest.
    As often some things appear very easy after one knows the solution.

    1-On the Depths quests...did you enter those quests each time from House D, or did you just click on the next quest entrance from inside the previous quest entrance.
    2-Shan-to-kor...same question as #1
    3-Tomb of (Burning, Sanquine, Crimson, Imortal) Heart...did you enter from Necropolis or from bloody crypt entrance?
    4-Slavelords same above
    5-TOEE same as above

    These could help shed some light.

    As an additional note, I've encountered at least one instance where I leashed to my soulstone and the "lingering grip of death" timer and glowy thing appeared, but I was still able to rez myself using a rez shrine.

    It may have been a fluke, but I think in some cases the new lingering grip may just be a display error.

    Just a random, forgettable NPC doing things an NPC does
    Things that NPCs do include, but are not limited to:

    Having a gold goblet over my head to indicate availability of a quest
    Having a catchphrase that never really catches on
    Having various rewards that are generally not worth the trouble
    Wandering around randomly
    Giving out obvious information if it wasn't obvious enough
    Repeating the same lines over and over again
    Repeating the same lines over and over again

    Very good questions because this gives me the idea that the reason for this issue might not be the quest.
    I don't know if this was your thought too.

    I found a case where you can enter a quest from a public area AND from a wilderness area.
    And this only because of an odd glitch if you have the Legendary Shroud and the heroic Shroud quest active.
    You can enter the quest Ritual Sacrifice from Meridia and from the Vale of Twilight wilderness area.
    If you enter the quest from Meridia you don't loose your epic destiny charges but if you enter the quest from the Vale of Twilight you lose them.
    And this happens even if you enter exactly the same instance.
    As if some wilderness areas "mark" the character and you lose this marking only if you enter a public area so to speak.
    So it looks like this could be fixed either by fixing the wilderness areas or it is something you can fix on the character.
    But not all wilderness areas seem to be affected, the exception are wilderness areas like Path to Whisperdoom from where you enter the quest The Spawn of Whisperdoom.
    One property of a quest where it doesn't work correctly seems to be that you appear in the wilderness area after you recall from the quest.
    If you recall e.g. in The Spawn of Whisperdoom you "jump over" Path to Whisperdoom and you appear directly in House Phialan Enclave.

    I tested it again and the Lingering Grip of Death effect that appears after you lash back to your soul stone has the same effect, you can not click a raise shrine and you can not recive raises (tested with hireling).
    I can assume that you had either some kind of glitch in this moment or you were simply wrong.

    Yup a thought I had too, this buff works correctly in the TOEE but not in Sunrise.
    I assume that if this issue would be fixed this HP buff would also work correctly in Sunrise.
    It is even possible that other issues are related to this problem.

    Anyone can say why ToEE is flagged as Long when it should obviously be tagged as Very Long.

    I knew about the interaction, but thought the Spawn of Whisperdoom would act the same way all the others do.
    Maybe it's part of the bit of code that sets a character's recall area to a wilderness zone that does this? That sounds pretty likely.

    As I said my assumption is that some wilderness areas do something with your character and this is reset when you enter a public area.
    Because if you go on a quest to another quest the character seems to retain this "something".
    If you enter a quest from a public area and from this quest you enter another quest (e.g. The Depths of Despair to The Depths of Darkness), the epic destinies and the Lingering Grip of Death working correctly.
    But If you enter a quest from an affected wilderness area and enter from this quest another quest (e.g. Waterworks to Venn's Trail: Clan Tunnelworm and from there to Venn's Trail: Venn's Fate) the Epic Destinies and the Lingering Grip of Death doesn't work correctly.
    My assumption is therefore that something in the affected wilderness areas can be fixed or it is something that can be fixed on the character.
    As a player, it is, of course, very hard to see where the problem is but I hope with this additional information a developer is able to fix this problem.
    But it is, of course, a bit fun to speculate what the problem could be

    There is a glitch if you have BOTH The Legendary Shroud and the heroic Shroud quest active.
    If you have both active a selection window appears for both shroud versions and for some odd reason, in addition, an entry window for the quest Ritual Sacrifice.



    I thought that's a well-known bug because this is quite annoying because you have always to close this window or you cannot enter Shroud.
    As far as I know, this is the only case where you can enter a quest from a wilderness area and from a public area.
    Which is quite handy because you can see that the wilderness area is the problem and not the quest.
    Too bad I remembered this not before I started my testing because then I could have just tested the different wilderness areas.
    But to be honest, as I started I was sure that the quests are the problem so I searched basically in the completely wrong direction.
