Thread: Can't log in

  1. #1

    Default Can't log in

Using the default DDO launcher I can sign in and choose a character. Just as that character loads into the world, a fraction of a second after the screen is drawn and the first ambient sound is heard, my client just closes to the desktop without any warning or message.

I could log in fine this morning. I have the same issue on both my accounts. Anyone know what might be up?

    (Argonnessen, if that matters.)

EDIT: More details: If I stop at the character selection screen and try a different character, the game immediately closes as soon as I click another character even just to highlight it, not even double-clicking to load it.

EDIT 2: Deleting UserPreferences.ini to start "fresh" doesn't help. Also, while I can click on some of my alts in the character selection screen, none of them will actually load. I get booted from the world as soon as the world draws.

Only answer I keep getting when I have this issue is "use the DDOpreloader". While I will admit that the preloader does help some, still get this on initial log in every day

Oh, yeah, it does sound like that but it's not. The world loads and draws in a matter of seconds. I get booted anyway.

EDIT: I just now turned on Fraps to record the problem to show that it wasn't the disconnect issue, but now with fraps running I was able to get log in and stay in. Very weird. Now let's see if my dual-box account can get in. (Currently farming gear for it.)

EDIT 2: Sad panda. With fraps recording I could load in both accounts and have them form a party together, but trying to enter a quest closes the client for both with no warning or message.

Have you tried Pylotro? It just let me in without issues.

I guess I'm going to have to. Though the fact that I could get into the world, join a party (with myself), click a quest entrance, choose a difficulty, and click "Enter" leads me to believe that pylotro won't necessarily help.

Maybe this is a sign that I don't really need to be playing DDO anymore.

Probably not, but you never know.

It's possible that some file has gotten corrupted. A full reinstall may be painful (this is why I backed up the client files. Well that and I'm also rather particular about backing up everything digital), but I would at least try that before writing things off entirely. Something about your case must be different or we'd be seeing a lot more people complaining.

Moving to tech assistance. Ellis, make sure you've sent in a ticket to us through support.turbine.com if you haven't so we can get this in front of Customer Service. I personally don't have much advice to offer, assuming the "have you tried turning it off and on again" didn't work. Sounds like something is conflicting with the DDO game client, whether it be a Firewall issue, a modem/ISP issue, or something on our end. CS can figure it out.

To be honest, I'm not sure it's worth the hassle. I haven't really played in a meaningful way since October, and had just started getting back into the game over the past couple weeks.

I'm really not invested enough to bother re-installing or messing with DDO-ML, which sounded more complicated than I remember when reading the instructions just now.

This might be a perfect time to just give up.

Oh I already did, of course. Both a bug report and a ticket. No word back other than automated "thanks for the feedback" confirmations on both.

I am successfully logging in and out and checking my characters on many worlds to make sure I used my golden ticket.

I have never seen your problem.

Good luck is all I can say. I have no guesses as to what to do.

I had a similar problem a while ago. It went away on its own after a day or so, so i have no idea what caused it, or what you should do about it.

Default sorta what Im going through....but with a TWIST

mostly what Ellis says is my situation but with a "twist"...I have characters on a few Servers and can ONLY log-in on certain characters on each Server but "not" the other characters on those same Servers and after choosing those certain characters I get message - Lost Connection to the Server - which is a pop-up back at Launcher Box...yes I have tried multiple times in-a-row but with the same results and Lost Connection pop-up...........now for the TWIST , when I get into Game on a character that this doesn't happen to and I'm trying to "ENTER a quest" , "RECALL from a completed quest" , "ENTER a tavern" , "SWITCHING areas{like going from Market to Harbor or Market to a House}" the screen freezes and I'm auto-booted from Game back to Launcher Box with the "Lost Connection message" pop-up box............so do I really need to make a TICKET for each Server this is happening on?? {god I hope not} , but I have a Ticket in and have only now noticed the last 3 days that this is happening on my other Servers as well............oh btw NONE of this is "ping" related incase someone mentions in a reply

I had a similar problem recently, I did a dns flush and switched from fullscreen to fullscreen(windowed) and it went away, which one actually cleared the problem? not sure, but worth a try.

If you can get to the character selection screen
that means you see in the lower left corner the

    OPTIONS button

This won't be the answer you enjoy hearing

Write everything down they way you have it.

Put EVERY OPTION, SLIDEBAR, ETC TO THE LOWEST SETTING POSSIBLE.

SAVE THOSE SETTINGS BY CLOSING OUT

THEN TERMINATE GAME. NO DDO GAME WINDOW RUNNING.

under taskmanager there is no turbineclientlauncher running or dndclient running.

    Restart game.

See if you can get in.

If you can get in, then slowly put the graphics settings back to what you like.

I currently can't go to wheloon prison, I crash instantly if I try to go there (and if I try to log in a character that is in there; then I crash instantly). If I click to go into the hall of heroes I can log in.
I know it's not the same situation as you, but it's similar, so maybe worth a try.

Assuming you are on Windows 10 still...

    1. Allow TurbineLaucnher.exe and DNDClient to have full internet access for all types of traffic in both directions.
    2. Turn off UAC.
    3. Run TurbineLaucnher.exe as Administrator.

Let me know how it goes.

Support Tech had me: OPEN userpreferences.ini ---> SCROLL down to: [Net] ---> at [Net] look for: UserPreference= ---> ERASE whatever the number is after that = ---> TYPE the number 9000 after the = ---> EXIT from screen...................doing that now allows me to log-in 7 Characters and clearing up what was same issues as your ORIGINAL Post stated
