    Default What are you reading?

I know Dungeons and Dragons ensnared a lot of introverts, over the years, and if you weren't interested in complexity, you'd be playing another MMO, so I infer that many here are readers. With this background in place, what are you reading?

I've started The Thirty Years War by C. V. Wedgwood because I was interested in a lot of things I was reading references to in The Federalist. My last one for fun was The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson.

I'm reading Extreme Measures by Vince Flynn. Great book, I've read it 4-5 times now. Its part of a series of 10(?), the first one I didn't like very much but the rest are some of the best I have ever read.

I am currently reading The Kill Zone by Chris Ryan but am also on book 4 (of 5) of the Matthew Shardlake series by Sansom. I seriously recommend that series, its amazingly well written and really does picture 16th century England.

The Chris Ryan books is also amazing, we need to remember that this guy was really in the SAS and did go through a 2 week escape and evasion during the first Iraqi war.

I just finished reading the His Dark Materials books, by Phillip Pullman, which was pretty good--the first and third books were excellent, while the second was more of a bridge between the two and felt like it.

Now I'm trying to find my copy of The Faerie Queene, by Spenser, as I've been wanting to read that, but I may go back and try finishing The Aeneid first.

While not generally my type of genre, a friend beat me over the head to read Vince Flynn, and would bring over more and more of his books every time I saw him. So I finally agreed to try book one, Term Limits. I have to say that I am really enjoying it, and if the rest get better I'll probably polish off all ten.

Next month the third in the Locke Lamora series comes out, and does the sequel to Name of the Wind. Going to be a busy month!

In my car listening to the unabridged ten book Flashman series by Geroge Macdonald Fraser for the 4th time. Never gets old.

If that is not sarcasm, you'd be the first person I have met that didn't love the Song of Fire and Ice series my Martin. Game of Thrones comes to us as an HBO series later this year.

Rereading The Black Company series by Glen Cook.

According to Steve Erickson it's like "a Vietnam war story on peyote".

    ...Yeah,that's about right.

Edit:GRRM is gonna pull a Robert Jordan, which might be a step towards quicker releases at this point.

No, it's lament at the inevitable anger and frustration he's going to feel when he gets to the 4th book, discovers none of the characters he likes are in it, and realizes that GRRM is a ******bag who has spent something like 10 years not finishing the second half of the 4th book, which he calls the 5th.

I really enjoyed the books, and want to reread them pretty badly, but I'm almost over the anguish of waiting endlessly for the 5th book that's never going to come and don't want to dredge up those feelings again. Meanwhile, my friends who can stomach it report to me of his postings on his blog about reshingling his roof, his football fanaticism, the other projects he's been working on (I think he has co-written a short series with someone else, some graphic novels, and presumably is working closely with the guys over at HBO on the series)...and his fury directed at anyone who tries to prod him into finishing.

    Default Lots of porn.

    No just kidding.

The Law of Success by Napolean Hill for the 5th or 6th time. An excellent book for those who want a blueprint of what some of the most successfull people in the U.S. have done to get where they got.

The author was given a grant to study and interview some of the most successfull people in the U.S. His study was to find the common traits among these people and put it to print. Amazingly they all pretty much had the same practices even though they all were from different walks of life.

    This thread.

Oh, you mean books? The book that's sitting on my bookshelf with a bookmark in it at the start of the second chapter.

    I can't remember what it's called. D:

Recently finished The Sharpe Series by Bernard Cornwell, good series talking about a soldier in Wellington's armies

Just finished the most recent book Malazan in the Malazan series. On book 9 and I think I know what the series is about now...

While I was at my Mom's I started reading a rather large compilation of Stephen King short stories she had. I borrowed it and am finishing that now. That guy has a vivid imagination.

    Waiting for:

Last book in the Wheel of Time Series - really like the new author brought in to finish it, Brandon Sanderson

Next Song of Ice and Fire book by George RR Martin - a great series but as the above poster stated, starting to get frustrated waiting for it.

Brandon Sanderson's next book in the Stormlight series
